Realistically, what will be Zelda Breath of the Wild's metacritic score? Will the graphics bring the score down or will reviewers ignore that in favor of other aspects of the game?
>skyward sword >93 Well, taking this into account, it will be something like 99-100.
Evan Brown
91, open world will end up being a detriment.
Grayson Scott
8.8
Jeremiah Nelson
>skyward sword had 93 what the FUCK?
Ryder Bailey
At what point do we stop with the graphics shit? Games that put a lot of focus on graphics have been reliably shit for the last decade. Complain about something else like the open world meme.
Adam Miller
Its zelda, so that puts it at a minimum 90 score regardless of the real quality.
Levi Long
>implying reviewers won't be flown out to hawaii for an exclusive playtest
Carson Williams
>Jeff Gerstmann talks about how TP could have maybe added voice acting in his 8.8 review >BOTW has voice acting
really makes me think
Leo Evans
99 WiiU, 95 Switch. The separate inventory screen on the U will be the difference.
Joseph Brooks
97 or 98.
Jacob Sanders
95, though it would deserve an 85 or 90 at best. things that will bring BotW down:
>Shrines: given the amount of shrines, you will have a bunch of retard easy ones >Enemies: not enough variety, different colour doesn't mean it's a vastly different enemy
William Rogers
I think Wii U's worse graphics will even it out.
People pay much more attention to that.
Jayden Edwards
Sure, but games that don't care about graphics at all end up like trash as well. Videogame is a visual medium. Aliasing, bad textures, poor filtering, terrible color grading and shit lighting kill the immersion, aka the whole point of open world games.
Compare the first and second screenshot here. One is an open world game and the other is a linear game with a medium-sized sandbox. It's sad to say, but the one with the sandbox and linear progression looks WAY more immersive than the open world one.
Justin Perez
The Zelda games are good but take 3-5 points off of each of them and it's more accurate.
Aaron Johnson
8.8
Nathaniel Myers
That's not tr---
>Phantom Hourglass - 90
You're right.
I can already see the reviews in my mind. "BotW is revolutionary", "there's so much to do in this world, between crafting, herb gathering and walking around the green fields", "every shrine tells a story", "the verticality is unparalleled", "it's just FUN in a Nintendo way", "the graphics add to the charm" and other buzzwords.
Lincoln Cook
well, considdering it's nintendo, and most cunts pretend ooc is the best thing ever, I don't think botw will doo all that badly...
Luis Flores
>using a dolphin emulation of WW since the original would've contradicted your point wew
Ayden Hall
>the verticality is unparalleled I don't see anything wrong with this statement, open worlds do need more vertical movement to feel satisfying to explore.
Robert Bell
That's the HD Wii U version, mate.
Jose Hernandez
I don't get why the graphics look so bad. If this was released for PC, modders would fix it within weeks, why can't the developers.
Justin Jackson
OOT can never be topped on metacritic because you can count how many reviews it has on your hands. It came from a different time.
Carson Morris
100 because Zelda is a meme and so is open world games so this is the equation here:
Zelda (meme) + open world genre (meme) + retarded fan base = 100 meta critic score
Benjamin Harris
>PS4
Adam Lopez
>too much mist
Thomas Richardson
Remember when you were in school and you had a lazy teacher who would give everyone great scores no matter what they did? People start slacking off. It's the same thing here.
Brayden Baker
92 the first month due to launch issues then 98 once metacritic prunes the negative reviews focused on issues that get patched.
Gabriel Lopez
you're right, I'm blind. It still undermines your point regardless, since it took a remaster of the game to look alright by modern standards. It's also a little ironic as WW was literally as empty as you could possibly get as far as open worlds go - the ocean had nothingness for miles and miles, with teeny islands and some of the weakest dungeons of the entire series. Breath of the wild may end up feeling empty, too, but it'll at very least have 100 shrines and fuck-knows how many dungeons to make up for it.
Ethan Reyes
How did skyward sword get that high? It should have been mid 80's at best.
I think this one will be mid 90's.
Jordan Lee
100
Julian Hernandez
nintendos 98 wich is 80 for any other game
Ryan Martinez
>it took a remaster of the game to look alright by modern standards The remaster actually looks worse than the original.
Connor Evans
>Skyward Sword
Why?
Bentley Stewart
Remaster of a Gamecube game looks better than the game built from the ground up for the system. Wew.
Also, Wind Waker isn't open world.
Nintendo games operate on a different scale. They get a bonus +15 to their scores, because they're "always fun".
Gavin Rivera
no it doesn't. WW Dolphin (with HD texture packs) > WWHD > WW
the original is too muddy, mainly thanks to the textures being low-res, along with the game itself; there's also a LOT of jaggies.
Nathan Hernandez
I would say it's better but I can see what you are getting at. Nintendo are lazy.
Aaron Ortiz
>Wind Waker isn't open world. debatable, the dungeons can't be done out of order, sure, but you're free to explore the landscape at your leisure, unlike every other zelda game bar the first and ALBW (sorta).
Gavin Butler
There is no separate inventory screen.
Brandon Walker
It's not a modern open world game it's an action adventure game with baby combat and puzzles.
Nathaniel Richardson
It's a linear game with a sandbox.
Ryder Sullivan
>action adventure game ...set in an open world
no, sandbox is shit like minecraft, gmod, terraria, etc. where the player is able to build stuff and generally manipulate the world - like a child would play in a sandbox, making sand castles.
Aaron Adams
I think there is some cherry picking happening here, as some shots of Breath of the Wild are amazing and as beautiful as that Wind Waker one you posted. Not sure why the starting area is so foggy, but in other areas it looks great.
Elijah Reed
>Skyward Sword - 93
I'm pretty sure that either Nintendo pays for the scores of their most important titles, or reviewers are a bunch of faggots that don't have the balls to give a negative score to a popular game series.
Eli Hall
what's sonbad about skyward?
Ryan Bell
how did skyward sword get a 93?
I didn't thank anyone had ever played that game because the wii-motion controls makes that game litteraly unplayable.
Ryan Harris
are all american zelda covers gold? My wind waker HD has colour cover.
Asher Allen
>Sonygger still forcing the "it has bad graphics" shit
Jesus Christ, why are you so incredibly pathetic?
Yes, the area isn't very pretty, but it's not like the whole game looks like this.
Literally end yourself.
Webm looks exactly like the reveal trailer, same grass and lighting.
Brody Bennett
How many threads like this you plan to make, Horizon-kun?
Caleb Jenkins
I think around Majora's Mask score.
Gabriel Cruz
You judge the graphics for the macchine. If It s out for PC with that graphics is totally garage for Switch is ok/good( lets see)
Nicholas Watson
>Polygon 6/10 >No FemLink >4 minute video of the Polygon reviewer struggling to kill basic bitch Bokoblins
Jaxson Cox
Considering Witcher 3, FFXV, Dark Souls 2, TLoU, Uncharted, FFXIII, Nintendogs etc. get 8s and 9s, it should get a 20/10.
Not even kidding.
At least if reviewers aren't full of shit.
Cameron Watson
Nothing, noodle arm Sup Forums bois just can't stand movement for more than one minute
Jose Barnes
I actually think the visuals look generally fine, but am I seriously sperging out about their shitty tree placement? They look so out of place and endlessly repeated.
Why can't games into vegetation?
Anthony Cooper
94
Nolan Martin
Objectively, graphics of this kind in >the year 2017 deserves a -15 points from the get go
So max 85/100
Blake Bennett
lol.
Just had a 45 minute chat with my girlfriend about the whole "Zelda crying thing".
Gender politics in games is here to stay. I guess it's good that we have more interesting things to talk about then graphical fidelity though.
Jacob Ortiz
I think it will get lower than average Zelda score, if only because the new trend where certain sites give low scores as clickbait.
I could totally see Polygon giving it a low score for some absolute bullshit reason, for example. Anything for page hits. Basically what said.
Carter Barnes
The last Polygon gameplay video is so bad. Guys are total noobs
Leo Williams
>that ass go away boner
Ayden Davis
If it's as great as it looks, anything between 90-99.
Eli Cooper
look at this game amazing graphics, great gameplay too it was released almost 20 years ago
Eli Flores
This.
Also, Sonyggers are fucking hypocrites. Point out that Gravity Rush 2 has shit graphics and they all come out of the woodworks.
Grayson Carter
BotW has bad texture filtering. no anti-aliasing, runs at sub 1080p and 30fps.
And it will be the best looking game of 2017.
I like graphical fidelity as much as the next guy, but art direction always wins.
Hunter Anderson
I will say 90. Graphics and probably empty overworld will tear it down. If they would made the overworld smaller and made only switch with better graphics and lod, it would be a 98-
Ryder Adams
Games have always suffered bad tree usage because they just drag and drop them to save time and money. Open world bullshit that needs to stop.
Jack Roberts
It was confirmed by Nintendo to IGN that the game runs at 900p. Realize though that is a 180p difference with 1080p.
Nicholas Taylor
the puberty is strong in this one
Carter Cox
Which is a 30% resolution difference.
Julian Taylor
Well remember that pixel count goes up exponentially. Doubling the vertical resolution from 1080 to 2160 quadruples the number of pixels for example.
anyway though my point is that Zelda will look great without state of the art technology.
Easton Walker
100
Owen Lee
Fuck metacritic. There are no standards or strict criteria in place for that garbage dump.
When they take ratings from websites who purposely give bad scores for page views, any sort of credibility is instantly gone.
Luke Price
p stands for progressive, not pixels, it's a 633,000 pixel difference.
Daniel Perry
This will be the first game to earn a 200.
Blake Price
Should have just put grass on everything if that's what they spent all their graphics budget on.
Isaac Jones
Thats stupid though. Graphics aren't very important to a truely good game, and so called gender politics are even less so.
I actually miss the days when sony and nintendo fans shit on eachother because "my flagship game is better than yours!". Now it's "dude, graphics, lmao!" And worse "why save the princess when she could save you instead?"
None of it has anything to do with actual gaming or games In general. Gender politics is fucking cancer, and only a thing because the current generation is morally bankrupt and needs a "struggle" to define them.
The reality is that the real sturggles were faught decades ago, and by people who actually suffered injustice. These days, the people claiming to suffer are the ones shooting cops at "peaceful" protests, starting shit with people over nothing and acting like entitled cunts who have everything handed to them for free.
Austin Rodriguez
Vice City had terrible graphics, are you high? MGS2 and SH2 both predate it by a year and are light years ahead of that turd graphically. The first Splinter Cell was released the same year. Not to mention everything in VC controls like a tank. I seriously hope you're joking.
Adrian Perry
8 sq ft island is so immesrive. Woah, 2 minutes of sailing in between """islands""""? Ah, very comfy. Yes my dear, is that a continually spawning shark thhat never goes away even after you kill it? Yes chase me and attack me more. Sailing wasnt boring enough, please antogonize me while I do it. Oh my, is this another immersive and interesting island to discover? Is it a single golf course hole, or maybe just the entrence to a fairy fountain? So deep, much exploration, very comfy
Henry Adams
I was defending Nintendo. It was just a trailer and we don't know what the game is going to be like.
My girlfriend's point was that, "This is how they choose to portray Zelda to us in the trailer, as a crying mess." She wasn't bent out of shape about it, just making a point that was honestly tough to argue with.
Kelsey Lewin said that it was a let down b/c Zelda is usually bad ass.
Austin Walker and Danielle Reindo said that they hit the whole "YOU HAVE TO SAVE MY DAUGHTER" thing a bit hard, which I agree with.
People have feelings about things. That's life man. Sometimes they're good for entertaining and enlightening discussion.
Everyone mentioned above is gonna play the game on day one and love it for all the reasons you think are important (gameplay), I promise.
Dylan Miller
yet it's miles away from this Zelda game which is almost 20 years older than it really fired my almonds
Xavier Barnes
The graphics are good though
It's a nitpicking meme
And we already established that artstyle is different from graphics
Juan Long
Yeah, it's totally not
>Near Empty skyworld >Constant Backtracking >Fighting the same boss more than once.
Kevin Roberts
97
They're going to praise the fuck out of it, with minor complaints of "the physics engine is amazing, but if you fuck with it for hours on end you'll eventually find a tiny bug" and "the world is too big", and "the music is too subtle for me, I need bombastic shit in my face the entire playthrough".
Eli Wilson
>metascore >game not out >discussing the metascore
Nicholas Harris
Thread can be converted into "Will it be fun?" since they are same sentence
Noah Phillips
It's not tough to argue. One, we don't know anything about the story and two, her kingdom is in ruins and on the verge of destruction by the ultimate evil.
Kayden Jenkins
>Kelsey Lewin >Austin Walker >Danielle Reindo
Literally who? I'm serious, I never heard these names.
Also, it makes sense she's a mess, Hyrule Castle Town looks like it was nuked and Hyrule itself is on decline.
Jonathan Roberts
DEER
Jaxson Morris
The art direction in BOTW is great IMHO but my eyes are bleeding from the rampant blurry low-res textures in this game
Ian Carter
The point that was tough to argue is that this is the image of Zelda that Nintendo put front and center. She is crying and she is a mess. That's what the trailer shows us.
My stance is that we'll let the game do the talking instead of the trailer but people are gonna feel the way they feel about something. They're not wrong.
They're gaming personalities who spend a tiny fraction of their time talking about gender politics instead of "I killed a bokoblin and it was really fun". So they're the people "ruining video games".
>Also, it makes sense she's a mess, Hyrule Castle Town looks like it was nuked and Hyrule itself is on decline.
I agree with this. We'll let the final product do the talking.
Mason Morris
Is this the new Ghibli movie?
Hunter Stewart
You have to be trained to have a problem with it. I'm a fag so I don't because that's literally how women act about everything and you should be glad they didn't include all the snide gossip and inability to make a decision without approval. Japs don't have a problem with it because gender in film is a waste of a credit.
Ethan Mitchell
>The point that was tough to argue is that this is the image of Zelda that Nintendo put front and center. She is crying and she is a mess. That's what the trailer shows us. She is symbolic of Hyrule's current state, it's Basic Fiction 101
Chase Russell
SKYWARDU SWORDO IS BETTER THAN FUCKING SKYRIMJOB
IT SHOULD HAVE WON GAME OF THE YEAR REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Juan Foster
73, normies will realize the actual game is fucking boring and not much Zelda like
Christopher Gomez
Who fucking cares!
Oh no the graphics are "shit"?!
HAHA at least it's FUN
die
Jose Fisher
>This is how they choose to portray Zelda to us in the trailer, as a crying mess
I don't think that was their intention at all. I think it was to give the sense of despair you're supposed to feel in the game. The scene right before that showed Hyrule Castle and Castle town being burned to the ground. It doesn't really get much heavier than that in a Zelda game.
