ONE MORE THREAD REJECTED

PASCAL THE HUMAN HAS ARRIVED
youtube.com/watch?v=NLcXXz01Tn8

I still don't understand the Pascal=Ashai meme

When you get to the point where you get your hunters license, she gets the option to register her own hunter name as well. One of the options is Pascal.
Sadly, she defaults to Asahi regardless.

Make me.

Post demons

FUCK YOU

...

That used to be muh fave series of all time...
then I grew up. Even Nocturne is cringey as fuck with its teenangsty edgelord shit. I used to think that it was philsophical when I first played it as a teen. The worse part is that SMT4 & Apocalypse are even worse when it comes to the edge factor & the shallow attempt at philosophy. SMT 4 Apocalypse is literally "MUH FRIENDS GAVE ME POWER TO KILL GOD!" the game.

I'm not even going to get started on the gameplay. SMt strategy is a joke. It's no wonder that SMT was severely outclassed when Nintendo tried to do a double promotion where if you buy Fire Emblem Awakening or SMT4 you get the other half-off.

Most people who were introduced to SMT through that Fire Emblem deal, walked away laughing at how edgy & angsty the series is.
Even Awakening's shit gameplay actually has more strategy than SMT's "Just hit the weakness & U earn an extra turn!" bullshit excuse for strategy.

What are some games you like, user?

>last SMT thread is full of people shitting on SJ
>Just playing through it now as my first SMT game and enjoying it
What do people dislike about it so much? Is it just people not liking the different direction it took?

That being said, where should I go from here when I finish SJ?

...

>Apocalypse
>Friends

People don't like SJ because they like Press Turn too much and don't like the HEE HOO OST, but they all have shit taste and you should ignore them

nocturne

>Press Turn
Can you elaborate a bit? I'm not familiar

>OST
Holy shit people dislike it over the OST of all things? I hope you're wrong, because that wouod be a case of terminal shit taste on their part

>nocturne
Roger that. I'll go for it.
What about Devil Survivor?

Press turn gives you a extra turn when you hit a weakness
On SJ when you hit a weakness your demons with the same alignment as you attack and deal extra damage

Press turn is the combat system from Nocturne and IV(A), where if you hit an enemy's weakness or get a crit you obtain an extra (half)turn.

SJ doesn't have this system.

DeSu is good, go for it.

And that alone is enough to condemn the game? I find the extra attack from same aligned demons to be good enough.

It has nothing to do with the setting? I could see how it may not appeal to everyone.

Soul Hackers.
Sexy Nemissa is best Nemissa
youtube.com/watch?v=TxJkWYzt2fE

The music is in quite a different style. The EO-ish dungeon crawling is also a bit of a departure from the PS2 era games.

Besides that, it's just SMT. nothing else is particularly offensive about it. There's a reason it's highly regarded by many.

Alright fair enough.
I just saw a lot of shitting on it in the last thread and I may have given the naysayers too much credence.

Im 90 hours in, just beat Trumpeter.

Im feeling the fatigue. I know its a good game, but damn im wore out. Do i have a lot to go or should i take a break and hit it up later?

Tbh the only thing that bothers me on SJ is that you can't pass turns but that's because I am really used to passing turns so the protag can attack twice

>90 hours
Jesus Christ, how have you not beaten the game yet?

still don't like the Demifiend redesign. He just looks silly, not menacing like he's supposed to.

>relying on protag
I'm only on Mitra, but even I know if you rely soley on yourself for anything but items/summoning, you're doing something wrong

To be honest there is probably about 10+ hours afking and time adding up, but im going at it mostly blind so im wasting a lot of time wandering when i dont knw what to do. Also my protag sucks and other monsters eclipse him, i fucked him up i think

Opinion warning.
I don't find SJ to be a bad game by any means, but it's simply not as engaging as some of the other games in the series.
The OST plays a big role in this for me.

The SMT series is riddled with dark, apocalyptic themes. There's demon's everywhere, it's the literal end of the world, humanity is fucked. All that goodness.
Most games in the series have an awesome soundtrack that makes you feel like fucking some demon shit up, music that's fast-paced and just plain and simple rad as all fuck.

SJ doesn't really have that.
Now please don't misunderstand, SJ's OST is amazing for it's atmospheric qualities. The game's aesthetic and soundtrack do a very good job of conveying the fact that you warped into demon territory and you're all kinda fucked now, as your companions are dying left and right while you're trying to fight your way back to earth.
But it's fucking depressing and same-y. It doesn't make me want to fuck shit up, it just makes me want to sit down on the floor and wait for all of this to pass by.
That's why I personally, despite the great gameplay, prefer most other SMT games over SJ, because the music in them actually makes me feel like playing more.

Why are bird demons always so good?

>Demi-Fiend
>menacing
He's a shirtless fuccboi in all versions.

That's just until he casts Freikugel/Gaea Rage.

I don't rely on protag, I meant on other games.

Aiming for TDE? Nocturne is pretty linear, except for when you're trying to find the fiends.

>Armor
>Machine guns

Somehow I'm ok with this.

I dont even know what that is. TDE?

I lost like two hours wandering after the temple of amala. Who the fuck knew i had to talk the bartender chick to progress the story. On more than several occasions you have to find that one NPC to progress the story and its very vague sometimes.

megamitensei.wikia.com/wiki/Terminator

>I'm taking a break from mine because I can't beat the part where Dante is chasing me.

>teenangsty edgelord shit.

The only thing "edgelord" about SMT3 is Isamu and perhaps Chiaki. Everything else is fine.

True Demon Ending. It's the only major fork in the story.

Best tune in the entire franchise coming in:

youtube.com/watch?v=4NaWKq5Jk-M

Isamu's 'I want my own universe where I can be by myself and listen to Linkin Park' was undermined when he turned into a giant whale with a hat.

youtube.com/watch?v=Go0JWfE9nEw
youtube.com/watch?v=qDsDYCI3fyc

idk I'm more ok with smt threads than those shitty dragon quest ones we had in october/november

Most of the "edgy" stuff in Nocturne is undermined by silly stuff like shota Lucy calling your new demonic abilities "awesome powers" or demons calling you "punk" and similar names.

make me

I can respect that. There is something to be said for music that gets the blood pumping. I'm certainly looking forward to trying out Nocturne and Devil Survivor next. The other user also mentioned Soul Hacker.
After that I guess its just 4? Or maybe 1/2? Thats where I get lots of mixed signals from Sup Forums. There doesnt seem to be a consensus on those games.

I don't disagree.

Awesome that they referenced the movie.

Just ran into this guy in SJ but couldnt beat his quest. Will I be able to summon him any time soon? He looks fucking sweet.

I played Nocturne and managed to beat matador, but the random encounter system made me lose all interest later

Whats the point of that series without meme

>What do people dislike about it so much?
The fact that it wasn't their first SMT game, largely.

It took all the great ideas the 3D games had and threw them in the dumpster to be a shallow rehash of games released for the snes in the early 90's, except then it was dumbed down from that game in a bunch of ways like only having 3 demons instead of 5, alignment barely matters outside of specific "what route are u gonna do" checks and the dialogue with demons is literally random and simplistic as hell.

Also, everything it added was a terrible idea. demon co-op is a mechanic that is at the same time boring and super broken. Grinding for materials to make equipment sucks ass. Random level 7 pretas in the second level can macca beam thousands of dollars out of your pocket. Literally random level ups.

The story is bad too, SMT doesn't have a good story except for DDS, it just does atmosphere and background lore well. SJ has a hamfisted as fuck themes that it beats you over the head with in it's dozens and dozens of cutscenes.

You should play SMT2 only after SMT1 (which is easy as shit anyways), and even that is arguable. You can play any other games in any order you want.

No.
youtube.com/watch?v=qDsDYCI3fyc

I can understand not feeling the game's atmosphere and stuff anymore, but it's generally not so much angsty and edgy than just dark, save for the times where you slaughter all your friends, I guess.

Although I don't understand how you can say stuff like
>SMT 4 Apocalypse is literally "MUH FRIENDS GAVE ME POWER TO KILL GOD!" the game
when you're comparing it to Awakening, of all things. Modern FE is more cringe than SMT has ever been.

>Demon fusion
Is it normal to feel overwhelmed as fuck? I'm having a lot of trouble figuring out the best combos to end up with lawful alignment demons but still have a good mix of elements. I can't seem to get any fire attacks at the moment.
Furthermore, how the fuck do I change my own alignment? I'm at second domain and I'm still neutral

Isn't that a human? A badass one, but still.

nocturne is genuinely a perfect console RPG

it's not 100% flawless, but nothing is.

If you liked Nocturne's combat system but you want a more traditional RPG experience, try out Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2 (2 is a direct sequel to the first)
If you liked Nocturne's combat system but would like for battles to be a bit faster paced, try out SMT4.

SMT1 and 2 are fairly archaic but still enjoyable, as long as you're fine with first person dungeon crawling. I personally saved them for when I had already ploughed through most of the series, and yet could not thirst my hunger.

how are nocturne and SMT4 the same at all when it comes to battle system

Press Turn

>in SJ
I don't remember, sorry, user.

Lv22 fusion.

>If you liked Nocturne's combat system but you want a more traditional RPG experience, try out Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2 (2 is a direct sequel to the first)

This. I actually played DDS first then Nocturne second, but whatever.

what the fuck is honchrow doing in SMT?

SJ was also my first SMT, I played DeSu alongside it and loved it as much.

If you want more first person crawling n shit, go for SMT 1&2 and Soul Hackers, if you don't mind crappy UI and zero handholding the very first megami tensei games are also cool too.

If you want more crawling, go for nocturne and then the digital devil saga.

IV is probably the SMT I enjoyed the least, vut Apocalypse is easily one of the best in the series (EXCEPT FOR THE DISC LOCKED DLC)

Raidou games are completely different, it's a hit or miss so maybe you'll just hate them.

>Raidou games are completely different, it's a hit or miss so maybe you'll just hate them.
there's 0 reason to play raidou 1. 2 is just so much better from a gameplay perspective and they aren't directly related story wise

it's like skipping spiderman 1 to watch spiderman 2. you might miss some minor details but it's no big deal.

>only having 3 demons instead of 5,

No one ever bothered using a full party of 6 outside of boss fights anyways, thanks to MAG consumption.

...

>le cringe
>le edge
Back to facebook, cuck

I feel like cheap when I say that I loved IV:final here on Sup Forums, I know that the whole "Nakama"bullshit is dowright ridiculous but everything else is just perfect.

Right now I'm playing SJ and loving every step.

what's important is that you had that option. if you wanted to risk running around with a full party even though it would be killer on your mag if you actually lost anyone, you could

in all ways SJ is more streamlined but also less interesting.

...

Wait, you can make a party of 6 in Nocturne?

Oh, it's all good now.

nanashi is just a poor man's Hitoshura and a fuckboy

I think he's referring to SMT1/2 where you can run around with a party consisting of yourself and 5 demons (or human companions)

I used a guide on his quest since finding the UMAs was too much of a chore for me

>poor man's Hitoshura
Doesn't the DLC say that he got BTFO when he tried to take on Lucifer in Nocturne?

I talked with demons once in a while and I never really had any shortages.

>redesign
I'm pretty sure that's just fanart, user

nocturne gets away with only 3 party members both because it has to render actual 3D models and because each individual demon in nocturne has way more potential moves and variety, as does the MC himself

nocturne has way less demons than the 2D games so each one is a lot more unique and the new mechanics and overall game design encourage you to actively pick certain demons for certain situations, instead of just

>is it my alignment
>does it have (skill that's good)
>is it not weak against whatever the people nearby are doing
>ok good

2d games have way more replaceable demons than nocturne does because they don't have stuff like evolution, sacrifice fusion and conversation skills.

That was just one of the many, many Demiquas in the Amala Network.

He's still a bottom bitch in every timeline though.

Was that theory about Sanat being Demifiend true? His dialog sounds like he's some kind of ascended form like YHVH

All the protags got BTFO in that DLC.

Nocturne on normal mode: sleep-inducingly easy.
Nocturne on hard mode: RNG bullshit where you can literally die to the first mob where your only option is "Attack".

Just like every JRPG.

>dialogue with demons is literally random and simplistic as hell.
Fuck so that wasnt just my imagination. There's no pattern at all to what they want to hear? I find myself relying itensely on that program that forgives 1 mistake in dialogue

How can you deal with the random encounters from Nocturne and DDS? I would play them if it wasn't for that

stop playing nuPersona

I tested this shit on an emulator, saved a state and picked the same option over and over

I would get different results. other games would have that kind of stuff be determined when the encounter starts, SJ determines that when you pick the option, which is similar but sublty more stupid way to simulate "lol not all demons of a race feel the same"

it's probably a justification for the one app that smooths over bad choices in dialogue

the combat is a large part of the appeal of those games, the tension of running out of resources between rest stops (nocturne on hard especially). if you aren't into that you just arent into those games.

>DDS
To be honest, I don't.
The encounter rates and the lack of demon fusion are why I simply cannot enjoy DDS.
I'm not saying it's a bad game, but I personally just can't enjoy it, and that bothers me because I hate watching LP's but I still want to know what happens in the story (despite already knowing one of the plot twist spoilers)
