It seems to be their tactic regarding Wii related things. They don't put them up front and center to anything anymore, but they're not really completely abandoning it all either. Just as we didn't see a hint of controller gimmicks until 1 2 Switch, and even then, that's the only game we see that's making any heavy use of that besides ARMS which still has standard controls as an option. They're trying to hit a balance for now.

Even leaving out the Smash options, you have Waluigi, Boo, Poochy, Toon Zelda, Chibi-Robo, Waddle Dee, any Pokémon, and soon a fucking bokoblin. Is there any consideration for future implementations anymore? That's the only reason I was intially okay with the idea.
