Would Sup Forums play my game? I'm looking over it more and more and realizing just how much it's gonna be compared to Undertale.

if it's more than $10 CAD there isn't a chance
that writing is terrible
Does it have good music? That's at least 50% of the reason why most people like Undertale.
>character says something stupid
>other character calls him out for being stupid
>nothing changes
fuck off and learn how to write something that isn't cliche
I'm composing the OST and uploading it to my soundcloud. You tell me. soundcloud.com
If I ever release it, there's no way it'll be more than 5 bucks.
That exchange of dialogue was pretty awkward.
Also this. The music is at least half the reason people liked Undermeme.
I wouldn't give you more than 2$, on sale or not. This is horrible art even for pixeltrash tier and the writing literally gave me a fit of rage
I like the artstyle but the character designs and sprites could use some work. And ya the writing is meh. I've been trying to make an rpg too but I suck at art so I understand your struggles. Good luck with it!
It's not nearly as good. Not saying it's bad, you did a good job. But undertale's music is just way too high of a hurdle to beat.
Ditzel is cute!
CUTE!
That grey guy is annoying, and designs look lame and uninspired. Though I liked the contrast between pink and green dino wanting to kill some guy and her(?) more cute design, artstyle itself looks fine but those designs really bring it down.
treading in someone elses footsteps only means you can never reach as far unless you surpass them
this doesnt look to surpass anything
i dont like the art
and the characters talk too much
I'm getting a lot of critical feedback on the writing. Thank you all for weighing in! Exposition was always pretty tough for me, I guess.
What's with the dialogue? It's like you don't talk to people on a regular basis
I'm not really trying to copy undertale or even imitate it. It just dawned on me that any RPG with subpar pixel art and a cast of cartoonish monsters is probably gonna get compared to Undertale.
I really do not like your font and how lines are spaced, and if you're going to put light on your overworld sprites, draw some shade to
>le uninspired 2D indei pixel shit
>terrible art
>looks simplistic as fuck
It looks like shit desu.
I think I've seen you in RPG maker threads.
You should consider adding still images in points that are going to have lots of dialogue. It's hard to convey emotion when there's just static emotionless mugshots to stare at.
The aesthetic looks like crap at this point. I'm not a fan of how choppily the screen moves along with the character either. As a lot of people have already said, this looks very uninspired.
I really hope you can improve it.
so the gray one isn't the main character, that's a relief.
What are you using and how much have you done? It actually looks pretty solid.
My eye hurts trying to read the text. I don't know what it is but consider changing the font or colors
I can help you write, if you want. Not saying you need it, I'm sure you can manage on your own, but if you want me too I certainly can.
>soundcloud.com
Music's good. Not a masterpiece but good enough.
Graphics are shit. Just because it's pixel style doesn't mean it needs to look like shit.
Writing is horrendous. Maybe try writing normal dialogue instead of trying to be funny?
In conclusion, stop trying to compare yourself to Undertale. The standards are unattainable for you right now.
Get someone else to handle the writing. That font's also a little hard to read in that text box style.
>It actually looks pretty solid.
Now don't lie to me. Thanks though.
I'm using a really old RPG program called OHRRPGCE. A lot of people have complained about how choppily the screen moves - the thing is, that's basically built into the program. So, I'm afraid there's not much about that I can do.
You can always use one of the later RPG programs. There's a good amount of choice in the market.
This obviously means scrapping a good chunk of your project and learning your project. Might be worth it in the long run...you don't want to run on an engine with flaws you can't fix.
That's low, man. I'm fine with criticism, but keep it about the game.
>play
maybe
>buy
Unless you're doing the humble bundle thing where I can just make a donation to Planned Parenthood instead, it would have to be really cheap.
Literally fucking underfail.
what program are you using?
OHRRPGCE. Already said.
Also, there's a demo you can download here. slimesalad.com
>le ironic tumblr retro game
It looks like shit. Why would I play this when I could play one of about 5000 other 16-bit turn based RPGs, that look better and have better stories?
Your music is pretty decent. Bookmarked it when you posted it a while back.
What kind of gameplay do you have in mind?
>slimesalad.com
It's a virus guys don't download it. Also fuck off OP with your cringe shit.
Why do you guys think his music is not anywhere near the level of Undertale's?
>OHRRPGCE
What an awful fucking program to use. You may as well have used RPG Maker 2k3. Sheesh.
Don't do this nigga.
Are you saying it is? That's really flattering user, thanks!
don't worry about people comparing your game to whatever popular game came out before yours. What are you going to do, never make a game with baseball players, monsters, demons, and daughters? Just make a fun game and people will find it fun. If someone says it sucks cause it looks like undertale, they're just missing out on a game they could have played.
This might be the dumbest thread I've ever seen on Sup Forums. OP has no idea what he's doing and every single replay is moronic.
Listen, OP. You're not going to get any valuable information out of this thread. None of the responses should mean anything to you.
You've posted 10 seconds of out of context dialogue and asked people to judge your game based on that. We don't know who these characters are, we don't know the setting, we don't know the genre, we don't know the plot.
But the worst thing? As far as I know, you're making a VN. I have no idea how this game plays. You haven't provided anywhere near enough information for anyone to say anything about anything.
Delete this thread, write up a summary of your game, make some webms of the fucking gameplay, then make a new thread.
your writing's shit
although casuals seem to lap up shit writing, so that may be a plus for you
Protip: undertale's writing wasn't' good because it was aware of the cliches and tried to "cleverly" play them, it was good because it embraced them wholeheartedly
Art style is bad, writing is shit, music's good.
But how's the GAMEPLAY?
I posted the download link earlier in the thread, user. You could literally play it right now.
>None of the responses should mean anything to you
ironically yours is the most useless since you didn't even bother to skim the thread
Finish the project if you can do it in less than a few months.
You'd spend your time more wisely if you focused on practicing either music or art since you have some talent for both. Practice either for a few years, then come back to devving.
You're a newbie on all the fields and it won't chance unless you focus your efforts.
I like how MC looks like bird
I wouldn't call it on the level of Undertale's, Toby Fox is a composer first and a designer second, and Undertale is a masterclass of a soundtrack, dozens of connections through leitmotif and catchy melodies all over the place with fitting instrumentation fucking everywhere and even having thematic shifts take place BECAUSE the music changes, like the "Nyeh Heh Heh" to "Bonetrousle" switch up when Papyrus uses the Blue attack.
That being said, your music is certainly good. I'd say it's about on the level of LISA's music, I love the percussion and the electric guitar-like synths you use everywhere.
All in all it sort of reminds me of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon for some reason. That's a great sign.
oh boy another undertale rpg maker game
the art looks ok though
Did Toby study composition or what?
He used to write music for Homestuck.
Might as well add that you should choose art or music because they seem decent. Your writing isn't great, but that can change if you're still young. The characters atleast have some idea behind them which is good.
I don't know about your dev skills but seeing how you went with same old rpg style we've seen countless times, I doubt you should focus on it.
Nope, he's just really fucking talented at it. He started learning music by ear and internalized the styles of music from games he loved like Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy, Earthbound, and others. Apparently he knows shit for music theory and learned piano on his own so he could play some music from games.
Not the OP but this hits home. Fuck being jack of all trades, but it's hard to focus when you love multiple things equally.
the font is too big, its a pain to read unless I push my monitor away from my face
the battle system is generic as hell but I assume you knew that
arts good
musics good
6.5/10
It's better than that so far. I'd at least give it a 7 from what we've seen. Nothing groundbreaking or super creative (the music is above average) but it works. I'd like to see more.
>it works
>7
>Awful writing
>Awful character design
>Awful art
Sorry, but my backlog is too big to waste my time with this garbage
OP Idk if youre still here but I think I finished the demo (agnes joined my party and now theres no where to go)
the game is meh but the like others have said the music is good, if you go to some people might pay you to make music for them
Games that don't work right get 5s in reviews.
It looks like a typical, generic, lengthy, grindy, highly standard JRPG. Not something that I'd want to bother playing.
The characters are too "pokémon-ish" and the writing is really bad, user. I hope you can fix that.
The textbox is too big and ugly, try to change the color to something less cheesy.
The music is actually pretty decent, kudos for that, pal.
Overall it looks basic and generic. Sorry to say this user, but it looks like an Undertale Bootleg.
Maybe if the story is good I could give it a chance, but seeing that writing... mmff...
I have a good idea for a game I can make by myself but I am so bad at art. What should I do? Seems like too many people judge a game based on the artstyle
