Part of me wants to say A Scanner Darkly, just because I love Philip K. Dick and relate to the story so much, but even though I love the message and theming of it I can't honestly say it's my favorite since it could be crafted so much better. So instead I'll go with Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, partially because it's depiction of Hell is one of the best I've ever read and partially because I'm fond of it since I read it back in freshman year of highschool before I got heavily into serious literature.

Album, Deathconsciousness by Have A Nice Life. I can't think of another that comes close to the artistic message of crafting an experience of death so beautiful, though I'll admit that you need to read the book that comes with it if you really want to call it complete- without the insert it's beautiful, but not as deep.

Because the only reason in life for me to continue living after I stopped doing meth every single day was to consume art, because art is the only thing of value in this life. It is the purest form of human expression, the most majestic form of construction, the most expansive and beautiful thing in existence. It encompasses everything, it can be anything, and it allows us to experience that which is impossible, improbable or simply beyond our reach. It is the only reason I bother to stay alive every day, so that I can consume more of it, so that I can learn more about it, so that I can revel in the infinite, rebounding dimensions of human thought, the most interesting thing in the universe.

I have spent over a decade hungering for every single story, film, album or game that I can get my hands on, every book of philosophy or history, every piece of media that presents to me something greater than mundane life. Without it there is no meaning to life.
