Wario Land 3 is one of my all time favorite gameboy games
They're all excellent except for Wario Land 3 which sucked
Fuck you
3 was the best of the bunch
Better then mario platformers by a longshot, nintendo's too scared of letting a better game overtake muh marios
I really do believe that Nintendo should've kept Wario or Yoshi for 2D Platforming and just stuck with 3D for Mario.
Both series just allow for so much more in gameplay while Mario as been exactly the same if not slowly gotten worse since Super Mario World.
NEW NON WARIOWARE WARIO GAME WHEN?!?
Wario Land 4 is my favourite game of all time.
they're all good games but i doubt we will ever see another wario game again because nu-tendo
what are some good wario games i can play on the 3ds?
\Great
WL II > WL 4
Good
VB WL > WL > WL 3
Okay
WL SI
I suggest you Wario Land 2 and Wario Land 4, they're amazing.
I remember playing some black & white wario plataformer on my dad's computer when I was kid, you wouldn't happen to know what game that is?
Must be Super Mario Land 3 Wario Land for GameBoy
That could either be Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land or Wario Land 2.
A good way to find a difference between SML3:WL and WL2 would be that SML3:WL has a world map and different hat powerups.
WL3 only appeared on GBC and WL4 was for GBA.
Super Mario Land, Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins, Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3, Wario Land II, Wario Land 3, and Wario Land 4 in that order. All good games, Mario Land is really short though.
The black and white ones are Wario Land and Wario Land II, but Wario Land II also has a gameboy color version, you should get that one.
A direct Wario Land 2 sequel with free roaming and ability progression like Metroid was pretty much the best idea anyone ever had, and I will never forgive it for flubbing the execution so hard. All obstacles are bypassed through remote cutscenes instead of actually doing something with them, keys disappear after every chest you collect, the level design isn't interesting enough to make the backtracking worthwhile, and all unlocked abilities are old ones taken away until you have a depowered Wario that isn't fun to play as
My nigga
Wario Land 1 is a neat "bizarro" take on the Mario formula, pulling most of its elements from SML2. It doesn't feel too great to control, though, especially compared to Mario Land 2, but it has some decent exploration and some fun secrets. Worth a try, if you can put up with the controls.
Virtual Boy Wario Land is a ton of fun. It suffers from expecting players to figure out certain unreasonable things, but the fact that there's a run button, coupled with the insane speed that Wario travels with certain hats, makes the game a blast to play. Its length helps with replay value. Would strongly recommend to anyone who likes platformers with a lot of speed - just don't forget that there's a run button.
Wario Land 2's changes to the formula probably have something to do with Yokoi's passing. It somehow feels even more awkward to control that the first Wario Land, but makes up for that by going all-in on having players scour every inch of every level for a huge payout, as well as a very, very slightly increased focus on puzzles. The number of levels and variety of environments is somewhat impressive, although I think some of the secret exits are pretty severely bullshit, as well as the "puzzle" behind the final boss. The game doesn't generally expect much precision from the player beyond the bonus level, but the puzzles aren't very deep, either. The main draw to playing this game, as far as I'm concerned, is collecting coins. I've got some issues that relate to the fact that Wario can't die in this game, but that's mainly just with boss fights. Until you get to Wario Land 3.
They're all good, and I wished Shake It wasn't underrated as fuck and sold more when it first released.
Wario Land 3 is... okay? It's got a great sense of exploration in some parts, it feels better to control than both WL1 and WL2, and the feeling of progression with each treasure either having an impact on Wario or the world around him. However, it takes some of Wario Land 2's core problems and exacerbates them to an insane degree. Obviously, when your main character doesn't have any way to die, but you still want platforming to be a part of the challenge instead of exclusively puzzles, you have to find a different way to punish the player. Because coins are a much, much less important part of WL3 than WL2 (WL3 even has a coin cap of only 999), they can no longer rely on that, so, instead, failure results in an immense amount of time-wasting. Miss a jump in that rocky level with the river that pushes you backward, have fun waiting to get out of the water for 5 seconds and then spending an additional 10-20 just getting back to where you were. Get grabbed just once by the final boss? Have fun tapping through menus and cutscenes for 20 seconds just to try again. Other than the fact that this is just sort of annoying because Wario still doesn't feel terribly smooth to control, it makes it difficult to iterate on your failures, so getting good is much slower than it would be in most other platformers.
I think what frustrates me even more about the fact that Wario Land 3 doesn't have a health system is the fact that the reason for that health system - transformations - sees very little depth for puzzle-solving. There are maybe two puzzles in this entire game that require more than a single layer of thought. Both 4 and Shake It had more intricate puzzles.
It did learn from some of Wario Land 2's mistakes - things like plain walls being breakable /only/ with thrown objects are better taught to the player in WL3, and more bosses allow multiple fuck-ups before kicking you out of the arena, but these things just don't make up for the problems.
I miss it...
I don't know why, but I never thought that was actually Wario Land. I thought it was a WarioWare game. Probably because of the shake it in the title and I completely dismissed it as being some shitty fucking motion control game.
Fuck Nintendo and it's stupid fucking gimmicks.
Shake It was amazing. The artstyle is absolutely beautiful too. It will never age
1 was good for what it tried to achieve (be something different). Also had secret treasures and secret levels (that ice world!).
2 was great for all those optional routes you could take. Still love the fact that you can choose not to wake up in the beginning and get a different route.
3 had the most levels and variations, but it also was too much. Every level was divided into 4 little parts. Every treasure and ability opened a new way and if you didn' t play the game for like 3 days, then good luck for checking every level again. Also, day and night cycle. Didn' t change much, but much enough to fuck you over.
Haven' t played 4 yet, but I' ll say 2>1>3
Started with Shake It! on the Wii. Was meh, then played Wario Land and that was great. Played Wario Land 3, and that's probably my favorite handheld game of all time.
Warioware is good senpai
Wario Land 4 changes almost all of that. Health is back, so now the game's not focused on punishing players by mercilessly wasting their time. Transformations are still present, but they all act much faster than before, or have rules that allow for more interesting puzzles - the Spring Wario only gets one bounce, meaning it doesn't waste your time when you're done with it; Fire Wario gets 3 bounces before crispifying, Balloon Wario can move upward faster by tapping the A button, Zombie Wario isn't in every other fucking level, so on and so forth. It also signposts secrets far, far better than Wario Lands 2 and 3, so that you still need a careful eye and a bit of critical thinking, but you're not constantly shoulder-bashing random walls. Having the player go back to the level's entrance on a timer is excellent, and combined with how the running works, feels wild and chaotic. The only real issue I have with the game is the boss fights. Everything surrounding them feels awkward, and the fights themselves are pretty weak. The fact that you have to drop the Golden Diva's hammer on your own head to turn into spring Wario is an insanely puzzling mechanic, I imagine most people figured that one out by complete accident, not a good idea when the fight's on a timer.
Shake It pulls almost all of its mechanics exclusively from 4, which is a sensible choice. There are some improvements to the formula here and there, and it's a gorgeous-looking-and-sounding game, but it does lose a little of that sense of dynamism that Wario Land 4 had with the running feature, and the fact that most levels absolutely have to be played more than once for 100% is something a lot of players will likely balk at. Still, collecting coins feels better than ever, and there are some pretty clever puzzles and tough challenges. The secret levels probably should have established the baseline difficulty, but it's not like any of the other games in this series are very hard, either.
>then played Wario Land
*Wario Land 2
oh also the golf minigame in Wario Land 3 is fucking awful and the fact that collecting all the music coins just unlocks another golf challenge is total ass, fuck all that shit
You can talk to the mysterious figure and he'll tell you where you can go, next. Day/night cycle is definitely kind of shitty, though, even if it gives the world a neat feel sometimes.
3 and 4 are masterpieces for the 2d genre in terms of the effort put in the overall design
The rest are just average to good
