Have you ever tried to play KOF XIII online? I did. Playerbase dictates EVO participation, and with a netcode like that it's no wonder the game was dropped. Hard to enter a game on EVO when almost no one cares for the competitive scenario.

I'm not a big fighting game fan, but bear with me. It's definitely impressive to see talented players in a fighting game. But I imagine that this sort of high-level playing would be a lot more engaging at Nidhogg, where there's absolutely nothing going in the background, viewers see a purely literal representation of all the players' actions, and neither contestant can simply wear the other down. While mastering the controls in traditional fighting games is half the thing, in Nidhogg, mastering the game and your enemy are all that matters. Plus, viewers don't need to know a damn thing about the game in order to appreciate what's happening.

Of course, I don't go in for esports anyway, maybe because what I think makes a game interesting and competitive is too simple for people who work & watch this shit like a job. I wonder if anyone else feels the same way?

It might "work," but they fucked up a lot of things with that game. Regardless of ports or the like, my vote would still go to Garou. There's enough good SFII footage to keep one satisfied for life. I have played the Garou port for Xbox 360. It has bad netcode (surprise!). I own Last blade 2 for PS4 and played it. It's better, but still has a long way to go. Conclusion: It's getting better, but too little too late. Just because a company makes very slight improvements doesn't mean we should start showering praise and roses on it. SNK still has a long way to go.

Honestly there's no way any game but Pokken or Marvel will win, and I like both games so I'm cool with that, although I'd prefer Marvel so it gets a Swan Song before Infinite.

I'd be fine with KI, ST, or Skullgirls, too, but I think it'd be way cooler to see one of the wildcards like ARMS or nidhogg get the nod if something other than Pokken or Marvel got in.
