Why is this game so polarizing?
Why is this game so polarizing?
It's a decently fun game that has a lot of good ideas, but many of them are poorly inplemented.
Also story is balls.
its just a nice ride
mechanics wise its like some game developers just threw a buncha ideas in a bucket and said "surely this will do as well as 7!"
people who played babbys first final fantasy as their first final fantasy expected 8 to be a carbon copy of it.
Polarizing means people either hate it or love it. Most consider this low to mid tier but the hate or love isn't as extreme as XIII or IX. It's probably the least polarizing out of all the FFs after V.
Because story- and mechanics-wise it's one of the weaker entries in the series, but a lot of people also have heavy nostalgia for it because they played it at the age when you don't notice or forgive most of that stuff.
what? he described it accurately, several people say its their favorite, others say it fails at everything
stop trying to sound smart user
That's just plain untrue user.
In terms of mechanics it's one of the strongest games in the series. Story has issues but it's not as bad critically as many make it out to be.
The biggest issues are that 1) it followed the blockbuster that was VII and 2) the great new mechanics took some getting used to and normies (because yes, normies existed even back then) don't like new and different things.
spoony said it's bad
who's that
Level scaling.
Nah, junction system was retarded. Drawing out magic was retarded. Having stats lowered by using that magic was retarded.
>Polarizing means people either hate it or love it.
that's literally the consensus about this game
Let's not kid ourselves, the biggest issue was the game being completely mediocre outside of the soundtrack, Triple Triad and Laguna's crew.
I don't think there's any quality of the game itself that makes it polarizing. It's just an objectively bad game that a lot of the series' fanboys latched onto anyway.
Golden Sun did that last thing and people love it.
It's the same for nearly all games in the series though. But it's not as bad with VIII from what I've seen, probably because it's not as popular as some of the others. It often ends up in the middle-end in tier lists too.
That's why you kept some items around which you could refine into the magic you used
I don't agree. I feel it's one of the better JRPGs i've ever played, and i've played a shit-ton of JRPGs.
The only people who love Golden Sun are those who played it when it came out and even that was mostly because it was a big JRPG for the GBA. Outside of that context, even JRPG fans consider it aggressively unremarkable.
opinions, man. Personally, my favorite FF.
Pretty much this. Normies are the only ones really clamoring about the series.
It's not bad, but it's def not great.
Agreed.
I've played every main single-player entry in the series and yet it's the one I never mind returning to.
Like all Final Fantasies, it has some amazing imaginative ideas and the core gameplay and fight system is pretty ok. But then there's also the drawing that on the first playthrough you will think you have to do and there's a lot of hand waved plot points that don't make any sense and feel like cheating. I think the game is fine but it is seriously pretty laughable that the objectively best theory of the ending is that 3/4 of the game is a dying dream of the protagonist. "It was all a dream" is the BEST theory. Think about that.
That's fine, there's nothing more pointless than trying to convince someone on Sup Forums to stop liking a game they like.
Now that, I will agree on.
Let's go play some games, user
because it has an enormous potential which was completely fucked up by execution
same situation as with dark souls 2 and some other polarizing sequels
Why don't you suck his cock while you're at it, faggot?
cuz' yo fat fuck momma drew too many hamburger spells and juctioned them all to her thicc ass
When I played it as a kid I loved it. I still remember many of the great moments it had. But even if you like it and even if today you think it's a good game, it still has objective flaws and you shouldn't fanboy around them. I liked the game but those SpoonyOne reviews of it are still a)really mind-opening about the problems b)fucking funny. You should watch them if you haven't.
>The game is just bad, I hate it
>But there are some people who love it
>Polarized
Jesus christ you people are fucking idiots.
Fuck off Spoony, you sad sack of shit
How's your first day on Sup Forums?
This game is the greatest in the franchise.
Ask me anything.
It's one of my favorites but it has its glaring flaws
>story is shit especially once disk 3 hits
>most of the characters beside Squall are unbearably annoying
>you have to have to work with the junction system and learn refining or else the game will be the "draw for hours" bullshit the shit players complain about
Total dogshit. I've listed its countless flaws so many times I can't be assed to write another essay about how much this game's stinks even compared to XIII.
Criticism is always deflected with:
>lmao ur just copying spoony(whoever the fuck that is) and i bet u never played the game lmao its 2 deep and intelligent for u
Most delusional FF fanbase by far.
Liar :^)
It sucks to replay it. I have to pretend I don't know how to play to have a challenge because it's so easy.
>subjective
>No.
>You have to work with the best customization system of any FF
Yeah, ok
Golden Sun was garbage for other reasons though.
Old Spoony is great though.
simpler times for simpler men
None of Spoony's criticisms are legit. He made an SA style review back when SA was relevant and pretended he was original. Even the fagorts of the day called him out on his shit by proving you could get 100 of multiple lvl 3 spells without leaving the starting area with only a few fights. The character complaints are all relevant to EVERY game in the series aside from 1 and maybe 2. The story in FF has never been good. It's either ultra generic or utterly nonsensical and always has been.
Spoony is just a nobody who was the videogame equivalent of Nostalgia Critic back when everyone was copying James Rolfe. He had no points to make and made shitty content.
He likes to think of himself as a 1 man MST3K but he doesn't have the talent.
Nah. People liked it for being the most traditional Final Fantasy-ish game to come out since 9. The memehate is only on Sup Forums since DD tanked.
>ecelebs
They're all nobodies
>memehate on Sup Forums
Show me one place anywhere that praises Golden Sun without nostalgia coming into it.
