Literally never because it's a fact. DVD players were cutting edge back then, so why would most people pay out the ass for a DVD player when they could have paid less for a device that played DVDs and could also play some fun video games?

The gamecube was for people enthusiastic about videogames. The PS2 sold because it was in and it was aggressively marketed to clueless people.

That's why the top selling Gamecube games are first-party fan favorites like Melee, Sunshine, and Metroid Prime while the top selling PS2 games are multiplats, shovelware, and generic RPGs, and it's why emulation on every Nintendo system is well-developed or underway while the only easily emulated Sony platforms are PPSSPP and to a lesser extent PCSX2

That's not even the mid and lategame lineups that include capcom's golden era.
