I bought an EVGA GTX 1070 despite all the failure reports, and it died after less than 2 months. Please laugh at me for being a retard

Their bios update didn't prevent shit and my card smells like burnt plastic

did you get refunded

Why would you do this?

You deserve it OP.

Next time buy ASUS strix, these cards have the best cooling on the market and NEVER burn. But I'm pretty sure your warranty covers your ass in your case.

Get an Nvidia GTX 1080 it's better trust me

>tfw my memecard is rocking its second year and I probably won't need to upgrade for another two

not yet, EVGA wants me to do a fucking support ticket first before letting me initiate an RMA. The card has a burnt smell and my PC boots without it, clearly it's the video card.

As I said, I'm a retard. I did the bios update day 1 that was supposed to "fix" this but clearly it didn't because EVGA are lying kikes

I'm thinking about going and buying a different brand 1080 and selling the replacement 1070 whenever it comes

Probably is, the 1070FTW wasn't able to hold 60fps in every game. Not sure though if I want to throw down another $600 right now.

You were also supposed to replace the thermal pads on the VRAM you autist.

but that's wrong your fucking retards, it was the VRMs not VRAM. I got the thermal pads from EVGA and never put them on.

If you go to the EVGA website though it says this
>To resolve this, EVGA will be offering a VBIOS update, which adjusts the fan-speed curve to ensure sufficient cooling of all components across all operating temperatures. This VBIOS will be released in the next few days and users can download it and update their cards directly. This update resolves the potential thermal issues that have been reported, and ensures the card maintains safe operating temperatures.

>For those users who want additional cooling beyond the VBIOS update, EVGA has optional thermal pads available. This update is not required, however; EVGA will make it available free of charge to any customer who is interested. To request the thermal pad kit, please visit www.evga.com/thermalmod.

so fuck you

>I didn't follow additional instructions so it's EVGAs fault
wew lad

>I can't read so it's not EVGA's fault
>EVGA has optional thermal pads available. This update is not required, however;

Should have bought AMD

can't you RMA it? Doesn't eva have good customer service?

*EVGA

my ASUS seems to be holding up well, despite also having the same shitty micron chips

gtx 970 ?

I can only RMA it after EVGA responds to my support ticket because they want to troubleshoot my burnt card, kek

Yeah I'll get an RMA eventually but I'm trying to decide whether I go to microcenter and buy a replacement card from another brand, or just run on integrated for the full month it'll probably take to get the replacement.

>got a gigabyte 1070 in may
>no issues
gigabyte has never disappointed me so far

I'll definitely consider them for my next card, EVGA is off my list permanently.

What failure reports? You mean the random idiots on Newegg who give 1 star reviews because of some random thing that has nothing to do with the card performance?

I got an EVGA GTX 1070 Superclocked and haven't looked back. I even got an Acer 144hz monitor to enjoy 60+ frames on everything maxed out.

Same here. My card is overclocked to 2114 core with memory speed being almost on the level of a stock 1080 and the temperate never goes above 71ish degrees. Didnt really have any issues yet either, and I've used the card since July.

>tfw my 980ti FTW is still going strong and hasn't melted

I'm not even OP. I'm a poor college student so I'm thinking about picking up an xfx 480 as an upgrade though.

>buy nvidia
>card smelts plastic
who would've guessed

>still on a 980
i don't see a reason to go higher than this at 1080 resolution.
even on games that support 144hz i can run at 144hz.

people who don't know what they're doing get cucked into some bad purchases.
sometimes fixing a game is simply tweaking some shit in the game options or in your GPU console.
like when everyone had performance issues when Fallout 4 came out all you had to do was not use in game V-sync and it worked fine.

>buying NOVIDIA

>using HD Radeon 6970 for years
>mostly playing older games
>newer ones need to be played at low settings
>finally get GTX 1070
>mfw never going back to AMD shit again

Sorry I made fun of you nVidia bro's about older gen cards overheating.

wow a really old card needs to run new games at lower settings, amazing discovery

>metal cooler touching GPU
>AMDrones blame Nvidia
every time

any coilwhine user?

the Aorus Edition cards look quite nice too

>your problem doesn't exist because it works on my machine
pls go

>upgrades GPU after 7 years
>wow this performance increase must be because i went nvidia!

>metal cooler
>metal
>cooler

the fuck is wrong with you

The discovery is actually that nVidia cards don't ignite the second you boot your computer and that this is just something poorfags have to keep regurgitating to make themselves feel better on their favorite Mongolian blanket knitting board.

My last 2 cards before this were both AMD

This, it's a widespread issue and EVGA has documented it on their site.

>the problem affects everybody because a chosen few have to deal with it
It could be affecting 0.1% of the cards that were sold and you'd still paint it as a common occurrence. There are always two sides to a story.

Nope, the only thing that's kinda annoying is the following:
>card turns fans on at 50°
>play some game
>card crawls up to 50° slowly
>fans start up
>card goes back to 49°
>fans turn off
>card goes back to 50° few seconds later
>fans start up
>repeat ad infinitum

But that's easily fixable with custom settings and good airflow in your case.

well evga has fucking goat tier customer service, so i wouoldn't even worry. evga has never failed me once and when i stepped up from a 780 to a 980. they gave me my card within a week. shit was straight cash homie.

every single brand has RMA cards. doesn't amtter what any turd here tells you, will happen to someone. lucky never me though.

>What failure reports?

The failure reports where EVGA 1070s and 1080s were overheating because they didn't have proper VRM cooling, some cards were catching fire.

me too

Then... how did he use the same AMD GPU for years if it ignited into flames the first time he booted it up?

If it's such a problem that EVGA is offering free thermal pads to fix it, I think it's a bit more widespread than .1%

Why the fuck would you get EVGA
FFS. There are literally half a dozen other proven brands with no issues that you could have bought.

Still going strong.

Not the guy, but do you even know how a heatsink works?

You must have GeForce™ experience enabled and linked to your Facebook account to view this post.

Hi 10 year old.

The card is less than a year old how could it possibly be "still going strong" ???

Damn i fucking hate graphic cards, they are a pain in the ass.

Recently my R9 270X died a week after my warranty expired, I hope the gtx 1050Ti i bought doesn't give me any problems.

Because the FTW edition was the best deal and had the highest stock clocks, etc. I figured the bios update would fix the issue as EVGA claimed, obviously I was naive. EVGA historically has been one of the most reputable brands for Nvidia cards.

They used to be because of their lifetime warranty and good RMA policies but as I recall those changed years ago so now there's no point in EVGA?

>Because the FTW edition was the best deal and had the highest stock clocks
People getting a card based on highest clock value are retarded. It's much better to get a properly cooled card and then overclock it yourself.

>as I recall those changed years ago so now there's no point in EVGA?
After my most recent experience I would have to say yes, do not buy EVGA.

>It's much better to get a properly cooled card and then overclock it yourself.
It was supposed to be properly cooled, I didn't feel like messing with the clock speeds and EVGA's previous reputation was solid.

also the dual bios was kinda cool to me and RGB lighting if you care about that stuff

>EVGA
I found the problem.

Got the MSI 1060, swear by MSI now. Maxes out any title at 1080p, never dips below 60fps, all while staying quiet and cool, not a single issue for the 6 months I've had it.
EVGA, Gigabyte can get fucked

I always associate MSI with bargain bin knockoffs.

>brand loyalism after babbys first gpu
lol

>I didn't feel like messing with the clock speeds
M8, there's no need to mess around with anything when you buy proper cards that come with proper software that is literally retard proof.

I can overclock my stock clocked (1266MHz) RX480 to 1356MHz in literally one second by using a simple slider and the card never goes above 73°C due to god-tier cooling.

>I can overclock my stock clocked (1266MHz) RX480 to 1356MHz in literally one second by using a simple slider and the card never goes above 73°C due to god-tier cooling.
I get that, but the FTW edition was in theory better for overclocking due to its dual 8-pin connectors. Obviously though I was wrong.

I wanted an RX 480 but I game at 2560x1440 and it just wasn't quite good enough for me. Really hope Vega comes out soon and is better than the 1080 so I can ditch this 1070 when the replacement arrives.

If you want your card to last you shouldn't be running it at those kinds of temperatures under load.

>product meets and exceeds my expectations
>implying I would ever fuck up a good thing by trying something else

yeah nah

My god you actually are retarded.

You still think the current EVGA is the EVGA from 10 years ago? They don't even offer lifetime warranty anymore

>If you want your card to last you shouldn't be running it at those kinds of temperatures
70°C+ temps are perfectly fine for the RX480, since it tends to run hot, but practically I overclock it only to 1286MHz max which is the standard "OC" mode the card comes with.

>metal cooler
>heatsink

pick one

What age are you?

Don't listen to this guy, MSI is trash.

Oh sure and CPUs can take temperatures above 90C but that doesn't mean it wouldn't cause damage if it was running at those temperatures on a daily basis.

You Mad Bro?

>MSI is trash.
Dunno how this translates to desktop GPU, but I had 2 MSI laptop cards burn down on me in the span of a year. Never going to buy MSI products again.

I just installed a EVGA GTX 1050 Ti SC

How fucked am I?

It only performs marginally better than my 2011 GTX 550. My CPU and board is the same age too, though. Only 8GB of RAM too.

You're most likely bottlenecked by your shit CPU.

OP here, pretty sure the issue is only with EVGA 1070s and 1080s

1050s/1060s don't have this issue iirc, what's your CPU?

EVGA's fall from grace has been pretty disappointing, they really pissed their good reputation away.

I know brand loyalty is for faggots but when I do my research for new parts I often end up buying ASUS. I've had five ASUS motherboards, a couple of GPUs, a monitor and a laptop from them, and haven't had any problems so far. At first I would choose them because they happened to be the right balance of features and price at the time, but over time I've begun to trust their build quality and I'm more likely to weigh their products more heavily in future decisions. Have there been any 'gotcha' moments where ASUS have let themselves down yet?

Fingers crossed.

CPU is AMD Athlon II X2 270

>Wait years for the Sandia to be made into a marketable cooler
>It finally arrives
>It's a piece of hot garbage that runs almost as loudly and as hot as fucking stock

>ASUS
Mein Neger. Asus cards are usually pricier than other aftermarket models, but you literally can't go wrong with buying an ASUS GPU.

>AMD Athlon ll X2 270
Uhhhhhhh

>shit performance
>loudest shit ever

yeah nah i´ll stick to real cooling

>EVGA's fall from grace has been pretty disappointing, they really pissed their good reputation away.
yeah, before this dead 1070 I owned a 6800GT, dual 7800GTs, a 8600GT, and 8800GTX from EVGA. After that I went AMD for awhile and just now came back to Nvidia and EVGA with disappointing results.

>Athlon II X2 270
>costs literally 17 bux on eBay
L M A O
M
A
O

dumb idiots

That really isn't good, you really should have focused on a new mobo and CPU first

>I fell for a meme

Literally the only thing the Engine 27 has over intel stock is being about half the size.

Fuck

It was my first PC rig 7 years ago, I had no fucking idea what I was doing and still don't now. I do know that by getting a board with another Expresss slot for two GPUs and obviously getting a better CPU will improve performance immensely.

wew that´s a salty one.

youtube.com/watch?v=oCghRn2Zae4

And a tenth of the size of an aftermarket cooler but because this isn't relevant to you, you immediately regard it as useless garbage. AKA, you are a dumb idiot.

>not waiting for based amd to release vega or buy a 390 or fury dirt cheap
That's what you get, for being an idiot

If your case will fit an Intel stock cooler, then use the stock cooler, 'enjoy' identical noise and temps and save your 50 bux.

If your case somehow won't fit an Intel stock cooler then you've bought a fucking memecase and are purposefully wasting your money.

>$50 for the Thermaltake Engine 27
>$35 for the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO

it's suposed to be as compact as possible in which he succeed

Always go MSI!

Best reliability and second only to EVGA in price.

I'm thinking about buying a 1050ti for 150 bucks. Any good?

You're trying to argue with Sup Forums, literal 14 year olds.

Best brand for a 1070? i want one and i'm waiting for a good offer to pick up one, but i know zilch about good brands.

>buy into meme
>defend meme

everytime

i don't think they get that everyone doesn't aim for max perf all the time

Asus Strix

i dont think you get that not everyone waste money on memes

Palits are great.
