What's to perform? The game is basically a movie, nothing you do changes anything in the game because it's so linear, everyone gets the same experience minus a few very very small things which have no outcome on anything you even do anyway. No matter what the game plays out the exact same for everyone.

The problem isn't the game but your idea of what RE is. Fixed camera angles and tank controls =/= RE, stressful gameplay, moody puzzles / environments and being immersed in a B grade survival horror story is. Which is all still there.

Besides, mechanically it did bring back:

>limited saves and save rooms with calming but ominous music
>limited ammo and having to run past enemies instead of fighting everything
>close quarters mansion-style environment
>examining objects and rotating them, moody puzzles (they were ALWAYS easy)
>locked doors with matching key types
>backtracking
>occasional jump scare (not as common as idiots that watch streams are saying)
>having to switch out shotgun with a fake one

You have to get past the family members that follow you, and fight off enemies or on Madhouse mode actually conserve the little ammo you get and run past some of them / duck swings and shit. You still have to find key items and backtrack around shit. Plus bosses.

You guessed wrong, I always liked RE4 and while it's far from my favorite in the series I was defending the mechanical changes that game introduced since day one.

Fixed camera angles and tank controls were fun for a time, but you have to realize we had a fucking decade of those games. They pretty much did everything you could do with that formula. It was getting repetitive. Same with the over-the-shoulder, we've had a decade of them and we've more or less done what could be done. Time for something new again.

I love that this series changes all the time, I can easily play through REmake and then immeaditely pop in RE4 without feeling any sort of RE fatigue because theyre so different

this fps trilogy is simply still yet to achieve its "REmake", but its a strong 8/10 start with high highs and low lows
