I need a "gaming" TV. Ive pre-ordered the switch and I cant imagine playing it on my 27 inch monitor. I guess 4K TV would be a waste since switch will never have anything 4K related. So what do I need to look in a TV nowadays since I havent owned one for 10 years?
I need a "gaming" TV. Ive pre-ordered the switch and I cant imagine playing it on my 27 inch monitor...
>ive preordered the switch
bait
buts isnt
Stay away from stuff like smart TV and 3d glasses
It doesn't matter, all TVs are fucking shit and even more so for gaming. Just grab a Sony or a Samsung with the size you want and the budget you have and call it a day.
Protip : HDR is pointless so is 4K, no content are using them properly even more so games.
This. Buying a TV is easy, OP. They're all 1080p now which is all you want, as some Switch games might actually be 1080p (Smash on Wii U is 1080p).
So just go for the cheapest price for the size you want. When you get it, disable any post-processing features like "Smart color" or "True color" and shit. You want it to be as raw as possible for gaming.
just plug it into your monitor. most modern ones should have an HDMI port
Smart TVs is a waste of money
4k is only relevant if you want a 4k blu-ray player, ps4 pro or Scorpio
Stay away from 3d TV (is this even a thing anymore?)
Where do you live? Some countries got telly license and shit, buying a bigger monitor could be a smarter choice in some countries
Which one has better base display colours, Sony or Samsung?
this im aware
I live in finland, there shouldnt be any jewish trickery. ordering internationally could also be an option since everything is more expensive here by default
I find Samsung tvs are the best in my experience.
Just get a decent PC monitor instead and plug your consoles into that.
>HDR is pointless so is 4K
This is false. It's about as false as saying IPS/Plasma and 1080P is pointless, and telling someone to buy a 720P TN panel instead.
A low latency, 50 inch 1080p tv should be pretty cheap.
ive got a fairly new samsung monitor and the colors are stunning, so ill probably go for that
Samsung Smart TV with Game Mode.
Jesus Christ everyone in this thread is ignorant as fuck. GET A 4K TV user. A TV is a 10 year investment, and in 10 years you can bet that most TV/movies will be in 4k. Not only that, but 1080p is upscaled on a 4k TV and looks much better (although still no where close to true 4k)
As for
GET A SMART TV jesus fuck why wouldn't you?! Smart TV just means it has it's own OS with apps like Netflix and Youtube built in. Of course you could get these through something like Roku or Chromecast but why wouldn't you want it built into the TV itself instead?
Don't get a 3D TV though, thats a dying trend.
Jesus fuck you are all total idiots.
Is this guy right?
>4k TV 10 years investment
>Smart TV os
The problem is that we got no guarantees if the OS will be updated and supported for 10 years
>I cant imagine playing it on my 27 inch monitor.
It's not like you're going to need the resolution.
Upscaling lower resolutions does not make them better. If anything, it makes them look worse.
He's still right though. If you're going to waste money on a TV, you should get one that won't be obsolete shit in just a few years.
No. Either wait for the Switch to include the same features or listen to what he said about a Roku.
Smart TVs are for if you really just want to hang a TV on the wall with nothing attached at all, but even Rokus and shit are just a tiny stick even then.
Sometimes you might actually find a Smart TV on sale that's cheaper though. Just don't specifically seek it.
Isn't all 4k TVs smart TVs?
He will probably be forced into getting a smart TV because almost all of them are that kind now but he can just never connect it to the wifi and it'll be fine.
Like the other guy said, just look for the cheapest ones at the size you want, and look them up on rtings or something to see how good they are. None of the processing features or any of that shit will be on anyway so you shouldn't have dramatically more lag than a pc monitor. If you do look them up on rtings I would try and make sure it has a high score for being used as a computer monitor, because that imo is a better test of it being good for gaming since it's all about how responsive and accurate the display is as a whole as opposed to just for gaming.
TVs are absolutely not 10 year investments because LCD screens are shit compared to CRTs and aren't designed to last long. I spent 300 dollars on a TV in late 2013, it lasted until the first week of 2016. These TVs aren't meant to last more than a few years, which is why you shouldn't pay more than like $600 for one.
No. Upscaling never looks good unless the algorithm used is checkerboarding. Even then TVs never use it and only consoles do. Plus saying a TV is a 10 year commitment is stupid and only applies if it costs more than $2000. Also getting a smart TV is useless since so many things can already play streaming services. If you really want them just get a Chromecast for $20.
>gaming tv
>pre-ordering
>switch
>4k tv would be a waste
holy fuck where to start
You do not want the tv upscaling your 1080p console to 4k. It creates input lag. Get a 1080p tv for 1080p consoles
Just don't be stupid. There are so many useless features they're putting into them to jack the price up and sucker you. TVs really are that cheap today.
Do not fall for ANY Hz shit. Unless you're getting into the multiple thousands, every TV you're getting in reality will only accept 60 Hz and anything beyond that is a meme that makes it technically more.
Seriously, just get a decent PC monitor instead.
I've had my Samsung 40-inch since 2009 and it's still working fine, maybe you got a shitty TV.
Good TVs will last a long time. I'm using a Panasonic Plasma from 2009, and it still looks better than most 1080P TVs on shelves right now.
Same boat. Got a Switch, need a TV. Don't need smart capability or 4k, but I do want a good picture and low input lag/motion blur. I'm going crazy because every time I find a TV that fits my criteria and has good reviews, I then find a bunch of negative reviews calling it garbage. Anyone got any recs?
Stop what you're doing and realize saying you don't want a 4K TV now, is pretty much the same as someone saying they didn't want a 1080P TV in 2009. I can almost guarantee you'll want that higher resolution in a couple years, so wait until then to buy one, or get a decent one now.
I'm buying a TV expressly for the Switch though. If upscaling 1080p to 4k increases input lag, that's a big negative.
Upscaling introduces negligible input delay. Remember that 1 millisecond is 1/1,000 of a second, not 1/100. Anything below 50ms is completely acceptable. If you're really concerned, pick up Sony TV, as over the the last several years their TVs have had very good gaming performance.
You've passed the first test, you haven't fallen for the 4K meme, which is great.
Just get a 1080p TV that you can afford. Make sure it has low input lag by checking www.displaylag.com.
>and in 10 years you can bet that most TV/movies will be in 4k
You fucking moron. In ten years there will be much better panel technology than the shite we have now. Stick with 1080p for now. All our content is going to be 1080p for years to come.
Smart TVs take a while to boot up what with their shitty OS.
