What's the general consensus of XCOM:2, Sup Forums? I very much enjoyed the Enemy Unknown but was just wondering what you boys think of it?

its good

I like it

Good but still as wonky as EW. Tons of mods too. DLC is trash. Long Waw just released.

Its a 97% chance i think its good

Woops, it missed

Worth the full price tag or should I just wait for a sale?

You can get it for 12 dollars at humble bundle right now. You need to subscribe to their awful service but you can unsub instantly and still get the game.

I liked it. The expansions aren't worth it at all - the alien hunters one makes the game legitimately worse.

Sometimes you feel like you almost have to cheese the game a bit and I am still severely butthurt about how fucking pointless sword are, but overall it has the right amount of tension and strategy and whatever.

Definitely a good buy on sale, at full price it's worth it if you really liked Enemy Unknown.

This right here, not to mention if you haven't subbed before they're offering a 10% discount which brings the price down to $10.80.

It's honestly worth getting for Long War 2. I was playing a pirate copy for months that hadn't gotten the updates, and with Long War 2 it's a much better game.

It's basically more of the same as EU. It has a lot of the same problems that sucked (game is way more difficult in the first 1/4 and then the last half gets too easy and grindy) and a lot of the same things that made it great.

I feel like its terribly optimized

It's good.

This.

Its actually a steal.

It's good but it suffers the same problem as the 1st one: A completely stall late game

Like the other guy said, its on sale. I put in 57 hours in the week or two that I played it the most, and I think it'd be well worth the money,

Do an ISIS run.

Is the FPS still as bad as it was at launch?

That depends if you are running mods or not. It's a bit more reasonable if you are playing vanilla, but put in Long War 2 and it's back to square one.

If you enjoyed EU, you'll probably like it.

And no, it's not very good.

It's okayish.
There are a bunch of really dumb decisions that hurt the gameplay.

Whoever thought that dodge was a good mechanic should be shot.
Just make a good 80% of the enemies have a 33% to 50% of just halving any damage from guns.

Real fun and cute.

Long War 2 also adds grazing

this

Now's the time to buy. Its a steal

In terms of gameplay it's just as good as enemy unknown.
In terms of atmosphere it's fucking terrible. The whole "the aliens won and have taken over earth" thing sounds neat but in practice it's just means that every map doesn't feel "real" for lack of a better word. All the buildings being futuristic and alien influenced just makes it feel like generic sci-fi rather than the originals feeling of defending earth. Now it feels more like you're attacking an alien world.

The metagame is extremely cheesy; it feels more like you're abusing the game mechanics instead of out maneuvering the enemy

NoMecs/10

I enjoy it more than EU but this is contrarian Sup Forums and EU "was always better", so that's a crime apparently.

I have greatly enjoyed this game. I am disappointed by the nitpicking because this isn't 100% perfect for everyone's taste.

It's good now that Long War has been released

Now I'm just waiting for Civ 6 to get mod support which is fucking taking forever for some reason

some good features, plenty of bad. still kinda runs like shit, but not nearly as bad as at launch. balance is still complete shit, even on legendary it gets too easy too quickly. campaign is not great. dlc is all trash too. for $12 on humble bundle though it's definitely a great buy overall

long war 2 is pretty fun but also has some issues at the moment, will probably all be sorted though

EW is absolutely better than base game xcom2 , also there are "mecs" in the dlcs. they're not nearly as good though

it's an improvement in nearly every way, except for setting and it runs like a dog.

Just downloading long war 2,
give me your protips

Delete Xcom 2.

the game is playable and they learned a few things from the first game
dlc adds FUCK YOU BIG MONSTERS which will appear during regular missions and of course the robots
much the same direction as the first game of the reboot but more heavily scripted though every battle feels important

also dont forget to use drones early as to help you overcome staff limitations
>and it runs like a dog.
fuck you i nearly split my beer

Always infiltrate to at least 100%, if you're somewhat of slow player on a mission either increase your turn count with INI editing or download the concealment mod for LW2. Accept that there will be missions you can't do, try to avoid missions with less than 3 days infiltrate count. You should also get like 3/4 regions ASAP so you have a bunch of different places to hit'n run in case enemy strength in a region gets too high for you squads.

>put all resistance members on intel during the first part of the campaign
>only go into mission at 100% infiltration
>you can't infiltrate every mission, select the ones that have give you enough time to reach 100%

read everything you can in the xcom archives. learn what infiltrations do. never get too attached to a soldier, and learn that there will be missions that are simply not feasible for you to win. weapon upgrades and PCS stuff is actually quite important, can really add tons of utility and staying power for soldiers and squads. don't be afraid to play aggressively. and again READ EVERYTHING

Grenadiers, shinobi, assault and gunners are mainstay for pretty much every mission, specialists as well if there something to hack, and the nice way to secure a kill with combat protocol in case a grenade fluked or you have to get rid of a drone.

its been a year and they are selling for 79.99CAD on steam.

EBGames sells it for 15

its not worth full price but its worth 30$

>Get a 0 Days, 0 Hours expiration mission
>How bad can it really be?

Is Long War like it was in EU where shit just got silly in terms of artificial difficulty?

Is that deal for ps4 or xbox1?

it's $12 in the humble monthly
if you've ever wanted the game but it there, it's never going to go lower than that

It's only $15 on humble monthly, and you get a bunch of other random games too.

>i didn't understand the mechanics so it's artificial difficulty

>Humble bundle
>Is that for consoles

You're fucking retarded.

It's pretty good, kinda want to play again with Long War 2. Just unreasonably unfair at times compared to EW.

It's essentially the same game with a lick of paint.
Even has the exact same bugs (enemies not moving during their turn causing their turn to last forever)

Long War 1 really did just fuck everything up though.
Massively inflated timers and costs, enemies get stronger with no downsides or variety automatically so all there is is time wasting.

"You're not supposed to win every mission" except not doing so just means shit gets slower and enemies get more RNG favourable.

It's like Darkest Dungeon before a cheat sheet was made for it.

>remove content but keep every single shitty thing from the past game
How in god's name is the free turn excusable?
And how is the lack of proper ballistics excusable in this fucking game? Silent Storm did it and it's old as sin

RNG 2

I enjoyed it a little more the EU because I enjoyed the pressure of timed missions. But, jesus, every time I miss a +90% shot I consider closing the game and playing something else like Frozen Synapse.

>Changelog: Fixed alien health HUD not showing correct values.
>Alien health HUD can now support 50+ HP units

Right.

Do I just unsubscribe from the Humble Bundle immediately after getting XCOM 2?

not saying it didn't have problems. but once you learn it it becomes much more manageable. i've done a good few impossible ironman campaigns in it, and there are certainly times when it'll fuck you up, but that's kind of the point. why play a game you can just steamroll indefinitely?

>that matters when you have snipers that hit for like 20+ damage

wait for the rest of the games to unlock if you want them. there is like a 1 week grace period to unsubscribe before the next monthly bundle starts. the extra games can be pretty alright, and if not you can always sell/trade the keys

yep, it makes never fighting the enemies the best strategy always.

Why play a game where you will automatically lose because of BASE DEFENSE or DOOM CLOCK because your guys got RNGed to death and there was literally nothing but savescumming to do about it.
Since you get like at most 1/10th of the standard rewards you need to grind missions about 50 times to get one tech upgrade while aliens get it for free.

Until Long War suddenly adds a proper ballistics based combat system into the game there's nothing strategic about it, no more than playing Hearthstone.

The game lives giving you enemies with huge HP bars before you are ready.

More dynamic missions
Less atmosphere

I spent enough time with it to say it was worth the price at release. DLC is a bit 50/50 but the amount of mods available make up for it.

Doesn't really fix anything if you were totally against XCOM:EU though.

>embrace Snek

By "free turn" I assume you mean the alien scamper. It has to be there, or you'd just massacre everything the moment you revealed it.

What about having a detection mechanic that goes beyond the fog war

i think it was seen and overrated . at this point the disappointment in valve not making half life 3 or portal 3 already is to big of a factor in every ones general view of xcom2

the few that like it might be interested to know a few other games did everything xcom2 did but done better

There are several scanning items and abilities that let you detect pods ahead of activation, so that you can slap them with heavy weapons and such.

fuck
I subscribed for six months thinking there would be an option to skip months you don't like
am I missing a page that allows me to do this or am I really forced to keep getting shit for six months straight?

I mean from the ayy POV
Instead of using fog of war as a way to being spotted by aliens, why not have it so once you are out of stealth, ayys will take defensive positions depending on their type?
That would be better than finding them then watching them get to cover

only thing I've found so far is this pause-a-month thing but I don't think that's what I'm looking for

you can skip months i believe. maybe not if you already bought 6 months though. i've only ever done one month at a time when there was a showcase game i wanted, but it gave me the options to cancel, extend, or pause my subscription every time

well fuck

well if you're lucky you can make some of that back selling keys for shit you don't want

Can't I only do shit like that on g2a?

git gud

>But, jesus, every time I miss a +90% shot I consider closing the game and playing something else like Frozen Synapse.

Honestly, install Long War 2. It seemingly drops hit chances precipitously at the start, but at the same time you tend to hit more targets than you miss when you guess (plus grazing damage feels more natural) and has less of that "99% chance to hit = miss 5 times in a row".

bad atmosphere

look at that terrible artstyle

worst style I've ever seen

there are other sites too. and it's not like you're selling stolen keys, you're selling legitimate keys

Are you sure, user.

BREAK LOS

It's good. Long War 2 is the only way worth playing it now.
