Too many diversity hires fucked with their content, too many acquisitions diluted the brand, too much competition and falling flat on the twitch stream market. Also refusing to hire outside help to helm laser team, instead having Matt Hullum direct instead of someone with experience.
Aren't the podcasts usually just Gus, Gav, Burnie, and a vagina, though? I think they're kinda entertaining. I listen to them while I play elite dangerous.
Simply Sold Out
giving RvB a 'story'.
same thing that happens to anything. too much growth and the standards of quality suffered because of it
also they do shit like this more and more often
But Day 5 is good as fuck, and I still think Bernie's writing is great.
I think it's cool when comedy series turn into something serious. RvB could've done it better though.
This stuff, and their "news" channel that jumps on every bit of clickbait possible.
I listened to the podcast for years and just couldn't stand it any more.
It went from irreverent laughs to a corporate bitchfest. Bernie is the worst, he used to be great and ended up a touchy cunt who never shuts his mouth and suffers from an easily bruised ego.
man i thought they fizzled out a decade ago
i cant believe they still make shit
Ray left
Not even being a contrarian, but the RT podcast is easily one of the worst things they produce, aside from On The Spot.
The podcast is never different, despite having such a large pool of people to choose from. It's Gus, Burnie, Barbara, and Gavin, almost always. Get Miles, Chris, Joel, Blaine, anyone really, aside from the default 4.
It wouldn't be so bad, but for quite a long time it has essentially boiled down to just a discussion about how they do rich and not normal things, and how annoyed they get with it. I swear they devote at least 20 minutes per podcast to discuss flying first class 5 times a week and how annoyed they are that they have to do things people only dream of, like travelling the world.
As a regular person, it's almost impossible to relate to any of it now, it just feels like people humble bragging for an hour. All of this, coupled with it being PG as fuck, barely hearing anyone even swear, makes it not very entertaining.
makes sense since those 4 are like the shittiest people in the company
I fucking loved RvB's story.
That being said, Miles Luna is both a genius and a total bastard at the same time.
I meanSeason 12 and most of Season 13 were pretty great, but killing off Church for good just kinda leaves a void which I don't think can ever be filled.
Also, knowing RT's character designs, pic related is probably qt as hell under the helmet.
Yup, that shit was just them trying to do "HEY WE CAN DO DRAMA, PLEASE NOTICE US HOLLYWOOD"
They stopped doing the comics
I stopped being 13 years old
On The Spot is fucking gold if they have the right people. The Joel, Colton, and Funhaus episode is kino.
Look, I can understand liking anything up to S10, but if you liked Chorus I don't know what to tell you
>Everyone is sorta just there, but there's no real development
>Miles finds a way to make himself the focus of his own story yet again
>Why the fuck do you keep adding characters, who the fuck are all of these people
HEY GUYS
HAVE YOU WATCHED IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA YET???
IT'S SUCH A GREAT SHOW!
I SIMPLY CAN'T STOP TALKING ABOUT IT
LITERALLY
EVERY
WEEK
Game Attack is better
Does he really do this?
Sure, some episodes are gold, but 1 in 10 isn't going to cut it.
>Dissing one of the only good remaining RT employees
No, user, this is a 'what went wrong' thread.
(Although he does need to fucking tone it down about Always Sunny)
I started to dislike Burnie when he started buying into shit like Ebola and Bird Flu.
I dropped them completely. podcast got so shitty.
everything got shit, nothing more to it.
Oh, of course, and the show has also declined in quality very, very quickly.
Gryphon left and they hired other women.
Since 2014, every other fucking video...
RWBY
This
Gryphon left, Ray left, they added a bunch of fucking nobodies and shit like Funhaus, that don't work with the old dynamic at all. Jeremy is the only addition that isnt total shit, and on "Off Topic" he looks like he'd rather be anywhere BUT RT anymore.
Anything with joel in it automatically better than it would be without him.
I miss the old podcasts with him, where someone would mention Gold, Gus would groan, and shit would derail into hilarity.
This show is complete garbage. I've seen better animation from a Veggietales episode, and all the fan boys cry about the creator dying when you try to criticize the show.
>What went wrong?
VIDEO GAMES
I thought the idea of the freelancer stuff was alright, but they kept the original cast around when it got serious, so it was awkward that most of them never really developed beyond their original character archetypes. i.e. The dumb one, the kiss-up, the pervert, the lazy one, etc.
They just kept tagging along with the new story despite the fact it wasn't about the two team's pointless antics anymore. So it was an action drama with like eight comic relief sidekicks.
you guys sound like some petty bitches
Funhaus is fucking fantastic if you think of them separately from RT.
>The latest episode of RWBY
>Mama Bellodonna falls through the door
T-They killed church? I only watched up until season 10
Good, you didn't have to sit through Miles' writing.
here comes the RWBY fanboy
I probably should have specified why the spoiler tags were there. I'm so sorry, if someone spoiled RvB for me, I'd be fucking livid.

NEW JERSEY
THATS WHERE IM FROM
FUCK YOU
JERSEY BITCH
Geoff always had the best stories
That was always part of his schtick though
You grew up
...
He knew it was going down the shitter
Funhaus is great, but they were funnier when they were Inside Gaming
they went from pioneering Machinima, a content type that would birth masterpieces like WoTs and various other classic Halo/Fallout/Half-Life/Gmod Machinima
and now make video game clickbait on youtube, run a boring podcast, produce stagnant lets play content every week, buy out their friends, and take themselves way too seriously to be funny anymore.
The anime is OK i guess
How can one man be so incompetent at writing?
>He looks like he'd rather be anywhere but RT any more
Because they're a garbage company that puts out garbage. He's a fan of them who got hired and now gets to experience first hand the shit they are. Putting out the same videos every week for what, a decade now? Not to mention they stopped being funny a long time ago, they don't even try to joke any longer and rely on screaming random shit. Then there's the pure trash they're still trying to push like RWBY. I would say that I'm amazed that something so horribly animated, horribly voiced could have survived this long, but RT fans would literally eat the shit out of their assholes if it came to it.
Their only good content any longer is On The Spot, as ironic as that may seem as everyone at their company shits on it regularly.
I miss the golden age of Machinima
I never listened to the podcasts, can anyone here point to like a specific one that illustrates this?
Literally nothing they make is good apart from RVB.
Why the fuck do people watch videos of people just dicking around? It's fucking boring. Especially when they have nothing interesting to say, or if they're playing video games terribly.
Why do people like Game Grumps, too?
Because despite his heart and passion, he's been shoved into an echo chamber where his head is forcibly shoved up his own ass.
>Then there's the pure trash they're still trying to push like RWBY.
RWBY didn't sell because they pushed it, it some managed to sell despite their lack of real support. Even if one doesn't like RWBY the appeal is understandable and it isn't surprising that it got as big as it did. What is stupid though is that they don't/didn't properly invest in it.
bamp
The podcast fell the fuck off once Geoff stopped showing up for good
I heard he has his own podcast now with the achievement hunter guys but I dislike nearly all of the AH guys outside of Geoff and Micheal. I liked Ray but I heard he left the company.
Am I missing anything if I've only ever watched RvB from these fucks? Everything else I've given a shot has been terribly boring or unfunny.
RWBY. The moment that got big, there was no stopping it, especially once Monty died and fans had the MUH MONTY excuse to deflect criticism. Also the loss of guys like Ray and the growing echo chamber feel of it all (doesn't help that it's settled in the middle of Austin).
>Even if one doesn't like RWBY the appeal is understandable and it isn't surprising that it got as big as it did.
It's not that it isn't understandable. It's that it succeeded at all. It shows just how little fucking effort it takes for a product to succeed these days. Who needs writing, characters, dialogue, or even fucking animation when you can just remind people that anime exists and make thousands of dollars that way?
>Why the fuck do people watch videos of people just dicking around?
Because the people in RT used to all be close friends with a good dynamic who were funny to watch.
holy fuck. I thought that dude on the left was physically disabled until he finally moved his arms.
Well, by push I mean just "produce". I used to be amazed that they're still producing something that is as objectively bad as it is. I've read that they have something like a full animation department consisting of 100 people now for it, and it still looks like a college student's introduction project. However, like I said, the general RT fan would quite literally eat their shit off a plate and happily come back asking for more.
it started off good, but recent episodes feels like they have to push some wacky bit, making people watch it instead of listening to them
What have they done recently?
I think it's better than the Halo 3 seasons with all the Freelancers shit. That plotline really just needs to fucking die, but at least the Reds and Blues actually have some presence in the story when they're forced to lead a rebellion they don't really want to be a part of.
It's better than Agent Washington dragging the Reds and Blues around and telling them to shut the fuck up whenever they start doing something funny.
But maybe that's just me.
no more passion
There Minecraft Let's Plays were essentially just an AH podcast back when they first started doing it. Then they got to Let's Play Minecraft Ep. 102314 and they all got bored of it.
Was Day 5 any good? I only watched the first episode and it was nice to see them doing something that actually looked high-budget.
They were? I never watched any of their content that wasn't RVB.
nah, the RT "echo chamber" even has become really really quiet as of late (outside of the RWBY fanbase)
go to any lets play video and read the comments. A vast majority of the people who still watch their content are kids, probably not older than 15 on average. Kids who were probably in diapers or not even born yet when RVB first came around.
I remember quite a few years back RT mocked "for kids!" content with achievement hunter kids, where joel edited butterflies and cats over the monsters or something like that. Now 6 or 7 years later, they literally have reached that point
Bro, One Life Remaining was absolute kino.
I miss when Machinima was just about experimenting with what you could make in vidya while never taking itself any more seriously than it needed to be. Shit was comfy then.
Things at RT that are still good:
>Play Pals and Immersion (sometimes)
>Off Topic
>On the Spot
>Partly related to the above, anything Joel touches
>Worms, Trivia, and board/card game Let's Plays
>7 Days to Die
>Funhaus
>Extra Life
I enjoyed it, I watched the whole thing with my family when I would come over to visit.
We are used to getting together to watch Walking Dead on sundays together so we used Day 5 to fill that void and we enjoyed it well enough, Premise was intriguing enough to keep my family willing to watch more
Try to look through their old content when it was just the original gang of Geoff, Griffin, Gus, Burnie, Matt, Joel and the like. You'll understand.
>literally who
You kids and your e-celebs.
can anybody point to a specific podcast where it all started going downhill?
I remember spitting out my drink laughing at stuff like G-Man squad, and anxiously waiting for the new episode of Freeman's Mind to finally come out.
Probably when the podcast stopped being the Drunk Tank.
I thought Jon hates what he did in One Life Remaining. I remember listening to his commentary for AntC or something and he said it was low quality edgy trash that he made in his teens
Good series but the end fell flat. Cliff hanger. Sequel. Lack of pay off.
I don't want to look through their stuff. I'd rather just rewatch stuff I've already seen than subject myself to a new experience and end up feeling physically ill for doing something different. Kinda like the feeling you get when you eat cabbage after six weeks of fast food.
dont they have a youtube channel thats literally for kids? or did that ship sink, dont even remember the name
how are they for kids content? this fuckers never stop swearing it seems and they're playing RE7 and thats pretty not kid friendly, though its mostly just spooks and blood occasionally.
or are we talking about a "for kids" as in maturity? because maturity was never RT's thing.
Rooster Teeth is/was so prevalent even normalfags (by Sup Forums's standards) would be confused with you if you hadn't at least heard of them.
for me specifically, it was when Barbara started showing up regularly.
Whenever Geoff left
on the spot is fucking garbage.
Arby N The chief tried it, didn't work out great.
These tbhfam
Geoff and Gus are pretty much the only people that I like in the whole company
Burnie got an inflated ego over his Halo fanfic.
Tried to go from a comedy web series to an honest to fuck garbage Halo fanfiction.
He became a big fat shithead sellout texan hipster who started advocating games for money, paramount being ME3.
It slowly devolved into more of a letplay business where they have multiple people in a room fake-screaming at videogames.
Very popular videogames.
The low effort content that is Achievement Hunter is what their fans enjoy.
They tried to have something like an animation studio.
But they hired the Dead Fantasy guy who just made a shitty Soul Eater ripoff before getting killed by a combination of his poor genetics and having terrible taste in women.
When they became minecraft letsplayers was really the first thing that turned me away.
