How come even Melee is thriving and 64 is played for fun, but THIS is NEVER even talked about anymore?

It's a shit game for Nintendo's worst console?
I find its actual fighting mechanics let it down. I still enjoy playing Smash 64 more than Brawl
Brawl is fucking garbage.
Smash 64, Melee, and Smash 4 are infinitely better.
It's the best for singleplayer, but tripping and bad character balancing make it less loved in the competitive scene.
>smash 4
only if you are incapable of coping with actual techskill
What's wrong with it? I enjoy playing it now and again. Must use the GameCube controller though.
Few reasons
>MK overcentrialized the meta, if it wasn't him, then IC chaingrabs
>tripping
>PM took the more hardcore audience, anyone who didn't get into PM moved on to Smash 4
>not getting streamed meant no one new got into it
>it didn't age that well (not that Melee has either
I don't think Brawl was that bad, I had a lot of good years playing it when I was younger, but Smash 4 is just way better. If I ever come across a Brawl community I'd sit and play a few rounds no question, I loved the Ice Climbers.
DACUS was fun as fuck but everything else about this game is a mess.
>(not that Melee has either
into the trash it goes
It is kind of a shame, since custom stages can be edited so heavily someone could make a unique and ideal competitive map for it.
I still hate fighting Snake.
Take a look at Bowser or Yoshi and tell me Melee has aged well.
It was fun. It was succeeded by Smash 4, just like Melee should be.
The Wii is Nintendo's greatest console thanks in part to the homebrew scene, faggot.
Graphics aging doesn't matter as long as the gameplay is good.
The clay-ish something art style has a unique charm. I like it.
Brawl is a perfectly fine game - it has flaws but its fun. Brawl got a sequel: smash4.
Melee never got a sequel. There is no game officially) that picks up where melee left off.
So people were able to move onto the next game in the series, from brawl to Sm4sh. But there isn't a "next game" for people who play melee or 64.
Melee is like Terminator 2. And Brawl is Terminator 3, the biggest mistake of T3, is calling itself "terminator"
As if anyone looks at those characters. Look at all the top tiers. Hell, even the mid-tiers like Pika, Samus, and Luigi. All their models have aged well, and all the stages have aged well except Dreamland.
Because the only way for Brawl to be mentioned is someone to bring up PM. Every single time.
Have you ever seen the video where some idiots were playing Brawl competitively and for a full minute or so at the start of the match all they do is stand still?
Then the commentators have the audacity to say "wow, amazing mind games going on right now"
Wish I knew the source of the video, it was embarrassing
rise of the machines is a good movie
I think it has aged fairly well graphically for a game pushing 16 years old.
They were obviously poking fun at the situation. This happened really recently at genesis 4 too.
Unlike Brawl, Smash 4 has more than eight viable characters. Some are more technical than others.
If all you're looking for in a smash game is the ability to do weird ATs, then play Greninja or Peach.
I agree - its just not thematically in line with T2 or T3 and wasn't received well critically because of the expectations of it being a sequel to one of the best movies of all time: Terminator 2.
Once again, T2=melee, T3=brawl
Those characters aren't viable in competitive, so we don't have to look at them anymore.
I'm convinced most Melee players don't even remember what some parts of the game look like.
would you consider smash 64 T1 since they're both low budget surprise hits
Plup famously choked on easy Adventure mode during a stream because he had no idea what the fuck was going on.
im gay
lmao I gotta go check that out. Hope it's on Youtube.
I have no problems with slower games but tripping and infinites are inexcusable
brawl is complete garbage and a mistake
>nintendo's 2nd best console
Fixed your typo
...
I can't even imagine that.
I was shit at Melee when I was ten but I could still beat Adventure mode on normal with all the characters.
>Moon Physics
>No good combos
>Goes out its way to make mechanic exploits impossible but has the most exploitable items in the series.
>Realistic edge to characters has horribly aged
>Only intensified stuff like WARIO THE EPIC FART MAN and Falcon meme
>Poke Floats tier stages
Final smashes were a fun addition and i greatly enjoyed the subspace emissary. Shame that they didnt do something like that in ssb4.
Brawl's a great game. Competitive was bad, though. Scene moved on to Smash 4.
M2K vs Vinnie
>I was shit at Melee when I was ten
That boy ain't right
I feel like brawl got a faithful sequel in smash 4, which everyone moved to.
it basically plays like brawl minus the broken bullshit and gave most all the cast a decent out-of-grab game. plus balance patches really helped the game, god knows brawl could have used those
>milquetoast
>noun, ( sometimes initial capital letter)
>1
>a very timid, unassertive, spineless person, especially one who is easily dominated or intimidated:
>a milquetoast who's afraid to ask for a raise.
>Subspace Emissary is great
>2nd best character line up
>Best overall content
It's only hated because "professional" Smash players actually had to get good and couldn't rely on exploits and glitches.
Brawl > Smash 4 > Melee > 64
I just can't get into any Smash game other than Melee. I have no attachment to Nintendo characters so I can't move onto each newer game just because it has more characters but worse gameplay
Wish they hadn't made final smashes a randomly spawning item. It could have been a cool mechanic on par with supers in traditional fighting games.
Is it true that Sakurai added tripping and removed hitstun only a few weeks before the release date?
Wish I could have played the game before that. I wonder if it would have made Meta Knight even more broken.
no one take this bait please
>It's only hated because "professional" Smash players actually had to get good and couldn't rely on exploits and glitches.
even though i know this is bait i'm still triggered by it
It's not bait though? Get good, you don't need wave dashing or other exploits. I will agree that tripping is bullshit though.
...
see the reason this is bait is because brawl was totally laden with exploits as well
Your opinion is legitimate, but it doesn't account for why you think Brawl is better than Smash 4.
You know that brawl is the glitchiest of the four, right?
Also (You) cannot compare quantity of content and shit gameplay with quality gameplay with mediocre content.
The problem with brawl was its terrible gameplay, even as a casual player I knew that the game was off with that moon gravity and its anticombo system
this
is the reason you don't like wavedashing is because it's not the way the game was intended to be played?
I miss playing this one, everybody only wants to do Smash 4 or Melee.
The reason it's not talked about is because the only thing going for Smash is the multiplayer, which changed with Brawl. Brawl's singleplayer was absolutely god tier. The best of the best in any Smash. However, at its core it's a game meant to be enjoyed with friends. And friends might want to fight against friends. That part wasn't fun.
Brawl was the most broken of them all senpai, you just didn't have a choice when the exploits were exploited. If anything, Melee is better in even that regard since it allows you to masterfully use even unintentional design flaws.
this, maybe it was due to me being literally 12 when gamecube was current, but I find it hard to look at many GC games and call them unattractive. That system had some great visuals.
I don't understand why everyone hates Brawl's style, it's by far my favorite and I don't think it aged badly at all. The only offender is the Wii's shitty resolution.

Brawl's character models with a proper resolution
>bretty good story mode with no replay value
>only five target test stages
Brawl's single player was on par with Melee's. But it also had co-op, which is a huge plus for me.
you know like half of those aren't even in vanilla brawl right?
Brawl just isn't that good, it wasn't great on release and it isn't great now. For all the characters and hype the game feels simply lacking in fun to its predecessors. Honestly I think Smash 4 has a similar problem, it's just not as entertaining to play, like the mechanics just fell apart over time. Nowadays I only touch brawl to play PM, that's my preferred smash game just because it's fast-paced like melee but you can actually use the characters you like and expect to do well.
cant talk about it without melee shitters bitching about it
I had fun with it though
>used to get snake and pick the temple stage with a friend
>we'd play tag with his nikita missile
>watching those youtube videos where modders made obstacle courses out of custom stages
>using that flower/hp exploit to get every character super quick
>the absolute HORSESHIT that was 75m
>pit and metaknight being broken as fuck
>getting brawl from the store and pouring over the manual, excited for melee 2
I want to go back
Smash 4 was built off of Brawl and its player base moved to it, whereas Melee has such different gameplay that there's a divide
It's pretty simple
>cant talk about thing without people who disagree with me expressing their opinions
Damn, I really feel for you. Do you have a GoFundMe account?
what's the reference here?
>expressing their opinions
ah yes: "NO, YOU'RE A FAGGOT. THERES TRIPPING AND ITS NOT MELEE, YOU ONLY THINK YOU WERE HAVING FUN"
>if I say it isn't bait, it has to be true!
You've never tried to play brawl competitively and it's obvious
The other half is
I only miss it for certain characters who were fun to play in Brawl, but not so fun to play in Sm4sh.
Stage creator was amazing. I don't even remember if 4 has it. Wii U only maybe?
That and going to a midnight launch where I bulldozed Melee snobs with Ike just pressing A and exploiting their utter lack of understanding super armor are all I can think back on fondly
All the hype around online and it was a fucking TRAVESTY. I could never get over how it always looked for three other players no matter what. Sakurai really wanted to kick people in the dick for expecting a competently designed game.
>hurr durr no subspace mode in $ because youtube exists
I hate Sakurai
The saturated look is the antithesis of comfy, I don't approve of it.
Sakurai really is a master of knowing exactly what his fans want and doing everything in his power not to appease them
He and Kojima should do a game together just to see if it causes a spike in teen suicide rates
Meleefags are the worst.
2/10 game
it was the birth and decline of neo nintendo
we need neo nintendo to make games that are fun again instead of games you master in 5 minutes
ANYONE WHO PUTS THIS OVER MELEE OR 64 STARTED PLAYING SMASH ON BRAWL
Because Sm4sh is better in most ways.
The only thing Brawl has is better singleplayer, which doesn't matter a that much in Smash.
>Implying Terminator 2 is a real Terminator movie
Nah, Brawl is more like Rocky 3.
Or 4, I guess, since that's the really shitty one.
Link?
A lot of subspace was good, cool new characters like pit, sonic, and snake, amazing soundtrack, and an exploit to hack wiis. Some gameplay decisions really are inexcusable, though.
I fucking loved Brawl's stage creator. I must have made a hundred fucking stages on that thing. Wii U's looked promising at first, and everybody was saying at launch that "This is better in every way because you can draw the stage!" But it felt completely barebones in comparison somehow. It had vanilla terrain, and you could add a lava layer to it I guess. And besides basic moving flat platforms and some barrel cannons, there was literally nothing else to add. I feel like a lot of inspiration for my stage ideas in Brawl was helped by the variety in props and hazards you could place. The spikes, the conveyor belts, the ice, the falling platforms, all of those neat looking decorative platform props, I could think of all kinds of neat shit to make. If stage creator ever comes back in another Smash, it needs to go back to the grid format and have all that shit back in, and maybe let us unlock hazards and props from all the different games like warp pipes and gordos and shit. Maybe even let us unlock game themed backdrops to use too.
Brawl has the best singleplayer modes with the worst gameplay in the series.
Wii U had the far better stage creator, but I do agree that it could use some of Brawl's props.
bretty much what others have said, brawl and sm4sh are too similar in gameplay than they are to melee, sm4sh is like brawl+
What made Wii U's at all better? Sure Brawl was based on blocks, but you also had stairs and slopes to use too. It all looks more aesthetically pleasing than Wii U's wiggly zig zaggy shit. Drawing stage shapes is a neat idea, but it was horribly executed. The drawing itself desperately needs more features like being able to move parts you already drew in, or even just being able to erase some bits from an already placed terrain instead of having to delete the whole fucking thing and drawing it again if you made a mistake.
i still play it for snaku
Drawing could be improved, sure, but the sheer flexibility that WiiU offered trumps Brawl's overly restrictive blocks and slopes.
Anybody who thinks that Smash 64 is better than brawl needs a serious brain adjustment
In terms of multiplayer, they aren't wrong.
I still kind of disagree. Anything Brawl couldn't make is more often than not a mess that isn't at all fun to traverse. Maybe good to fuck around with friends on and laugh at once or twice, but nothing more. Which is how I feel about a lot of Wii U's additions actually.
It's fucking garbage and has been replaced by the new garbage entry.
>but muh snake
People at large don't care dude. They just want the new shit.
>Sonic Adventure is a perfectly fine game - it has flaws but its fun.
Wii U's non-Smash modes sucked.
Classic was shit, Mario Party-lite was shit, Angry Birds mode was shit, unlocking characters was unfun, it just sucked in that department.
Smash64 is more fun to actually play, which trumps more characters and stages
Which smash game has the most characters?
>ctrl+f
>"tripping"
>6 results
Literally not enough
Yes.
Sm4sh
>yeah yeah i really enjoy playing melee heheh Brawl fucking sucks cuz it's more slow
So, do you enjoy playing a game who is based in fucking bugs?
I genuinely 64 is the best Smash game and nobody can stop me
Great game if it's not in a competitive scene. Otherwise the pacing is way too slow compared to Melee and even Smash4.
