Just broke that apathetic gamer mentality myself. As much as it pains me to say it, the main thing that helped was dropping the PCMR crap and picking up a PS4.

Not sure if that applies to you as I don't know your platform of choice. Still, reminds me of being a kid, sitting on the couch or on my bed just playing games rather than hunched over my keyboard.

Another trick was to stop obsessing over reviews and critics impressions on games. If a game looks fun, I just pick it up and give it a shot. However, if it's a $60 game and I'm not almost entirely positive i'll enjoy it I just wait for a price drop.
