Happy 20th birthday my old and best friend, i were 9 when i met you, best thing that happened in my life
I recognize that the graphics were revolutionary, but the gameplay and story are both mediocre/not-great.
Overrated shit
>gameplay and story are both mediocre/not-great.
i suppose you like cod and fifa
No, my thread is here:
He's probably 18-20. This game is definitely a contender for best game ever. It's probably not, but it is absolutely a contender.
Legendary game
here's to another 20 years.
i think is the best game ever, every time i replay it every year, i feel that magic that you cant find nowdays
indeed my friend
I woke up to you on Christmas morning, old friend and I will never forget the feels of the PS1 and N64 era
I was also 9. 5th grade. good times.
Remember I had the game pirated and lent it out to half the class, good times
i was either 9 or 10, maybe 8 when I played the pc gamer demo disc for this - sparked a love for the series and jrpg's in general that is still going strong
TIFA ONE AND ONLY BEST WAIFU
Babby's first JRPG
It fucking sucks, by the way.
This, pretty much.
You can tell the obvious nostalgia.
I loved it, played it last year, even paid for it after pirating.
Good game, a classic.
im sorry for you both
or samefagging
I was obsessed with this game for a couple of years, and it still stirs my heart to think about some parts.

>Your new is showing.
i have been here for more than i would like to be, im just Clueless
>Alright, tell me WITHOUT nostalgia, why FF7 is so good, please.
Because this whole thread is nostalgic circlejerking.
nostalgic is a strong point i admit it but it is great anyways, music, history, characters, adventure, development, and more
>Not only are you a fucking idiot, but you have an insane amount of autism.
i agree
>moving plot
>pioneered 3d polygon models for RPGs
>best video game soundtrack of all time
>good pacing and length

>being this much of a tryhard
goddamnit!
you weren't supposed to ACTUALLY LOOK!
your fucking lazy children, go back to facebook, your missing your foursquare rave or something
FUCK
Not nostalgia. Just great memories of when games used to actually be innovative and not just copies and rehashes of the same type of game over and over because developers know they'll sell well. When micro transactions weren't involved. FF7 was absolutely ground breaking for its time. Graphically, story, music, content, size - many RPGs came before and after it but none have managed to replicate it's charm, cosy locations and atmosphere, wrapped together with the best soundtrack ever seen in gaming.
The mini games were varied and different, and as a standalone game would've been a better quality than many full releases at that time.
The only people who hate on it are newbie gamers who simply weren't there at the time to appreciate it, so can't look any further than the end of their nose. Yes, compared to games released today, it doesn't look as good, that's the nature of a developing technology, but outside of that it was absolutely fantastic and the greatest game of all time.
>Characters
Sephiroth was a cookie cutter villain and none of the characters aside from him, Cloud and Barrett are memorable.
>Music
Okay.
>History
You mean the lore? The generic, standard lore that's been in every Final Fantasy game?
>Adventure
You're implying FF7's level of adventure is actually high
>Development
50% of the game's story felt like it was filler.
>Moving plot
Are you implying that games before this didn't have plots that progressed? Because that's fucking stupid
>Pioneered 3D polygon models for RPGs
Yes.
>Best Video Game Soundtrack of all time
Not even the best Final Fantasy soundtrack
>Good pacing and length
Nope, the pacing was all over the place and it turned into a boring slog on more than one occasion.
>Lots of easter eggs
A non factor for a game's quality
>going with Aeris date
pleb tier detected
Happy birthday VII, best FF hands down and contender for best game of all time, if not the winner.
> it was fucking huge SOLELY because it was on PS1, if it was on N64 and had all the same shit, people would be praising the N64 for all time for etc etc etc FF7
What did he mean by this?
this
I can see how it might be hard to pick it up for the first time as a millennial, because the polygons models aged like milk, but everything else is first rate. It bums me out realizing young people today won't be able to appreciate it
That's fine. I respect that. I just wanted to mess with ya.
It's okay, we know you like to be different. I hope you feel special.
>this much shit taste
nigga I'm old enough that this game came out halfway through my lifetime
The funny thing is, he's not wrong.
Happy birthday FFVII. Thank you for giving me my waifu
Their loss entirely, they'll make up for missing out by openly criticising the game instead - as per this thread.
Instead of buzzwording me, why don't you actually try to fucking debate like the mature adults you claim to be?
>best thing that happened in my life
It's a video game m8.
I like it as well but get some perspective
the even more funny thing is, he is
>romancing a bimbo affiliated with a terrorist organization
>instead of a pure-hearted angel
>still being a tryhard
So, how's highschool treating ya, mate
Okay, I'll put a quick end to this debate.
It's entirely subjective, it's completely based around your own personal likes and dislikes and how the game appeals/doesn't appeal to you individually. That's the nature of anything within entertainment, it's entirely subjective.
However recognise that by claiming you don't like the game, you're in the smallest of minorities who don't. Based on your pithy list criticising the game, I'd suggest you're being deliberately contrarian to get a reaction / attention; the fact that you subsequently, literally then begged for replies who support that - therefore your opinion means almost nothing, in the context of the discussion.
it is not just a video game, it is part of my life and who i am and part of my dreams, im really bad talking and explain sorry but you get an idea i hope
he is wrong
bumpan with a tear-jerker, the song that plays when you're leaving Midgar
how did this game make me feel so amazing
youtube.com
how can i talk like you in real life ?
>romancing a bimbo affiliated with a terrorist organization
>instead of a pure-hearted angel
but I did chose Tifa and not the slut
This game has aged like shit desu. The music and story is great but everything else is meh. Can't wait for the remake to fix the boring ass combat
>the fact that you subsequently, literally then begged for replies who support that
I legitimately want to understand why people enjoy something I don't so I can get a firm grip on why it is held in such high regard.
I already conceded that the musical score was well done and the graphics were pretty revolutionary for the time
But hey, just cover your ears like a child and assume I'm only here to bait people, that's alright too.
I understand entirely.
It's crazy to think it was 20 years ago that I got completely encapsulated with the game. I've very rarely been in a position since where I was constantly looking forward to picking up from my last save point and never wanted to out it down. Each new town you went, new weapon and materia store you visited, new song you hear, each boss you faced etc. all felt like something really special and exciting. Yes, my age plays a part because I was a kid back then, but I also got completely engrossed in the entire world of it. It's carved out what music I enjoy, what stories I like to read, what atmosphere I enjoy, what holidays I wanna go on etc. It's had a profound effect on my entire life, and no video game has ever come anywhere close to the experience.
wow that version is awesome
DELET
FF7 introduced me to Japanese culture in earnest, well the best of what they have. It really opened my eyes to that whole side of the world. And the great shit they can come up with.
This is you?
>Aerith
>not being the biggest slut in the entire franchise
she would have died one way or another because of STDs
It's really funny because Aeris is the white mage and the last of an ancient race. She's also dressed the most conservative of all 3 playable females. In any other game she'd be the purest pure who ever nun'd. And yet she's very flirtatious and is constantly pressing Cloud into a deeper relationship. Even when Tifa is right there.
On the flip side Tifa is dressed more provocatively and is the team monk. And also a bar hostess. Yet she's far and away the most demure concerning Cloud.
Yes.
And instead of trying to debate my points, you just assume I'm baiting. I'm fully willing and open to whatever you have to say about the game and why it's so good.
But all I have been met with is nostalgic circlejerking and buzzwords.
I never thought about it that way but you're right, they're good foils
This makes them so good
yeah it needed to be literally baby's first 3d game
which it wasn't, if you had a pc
totally this, i experienced the same, we had good times
I have played much more games before ff7 when i was 9, i cant even remember then but can remember all what you sai perfectly
thanks great
...
>I can see how it might be hard to pick it up for the first time as a millennial
I was born in 1999 and played FFVII for the first time in 2015 after constantly seeing it mentioned in everything from top ten lists to game discussions on forums since 2009.
I really liked it, I wasn't there so I don't know form personal experience how impressive it must've been, but I think it's still a rather fine game.
I actually let my 6-7 year old cousin try it and he liked it.
When he gets better at reading I'm probably gonna see what other rpgs he might like.
I think probably the best example is when Cait Sith is about to sacrifice himself at the temple. Aeris asks him to read her and Cloud's fortunes one last time. And Cait Sith starts gushing about how Cloud and Aeris are perfect for each other and how their stars align and everything. Meanwhile if you brought Tifa along she'll turn away and sit in silence as she listens to all of this.
FFVII isn't why people praised the ps1.
The PS1 in general had the better library.
AFTER ALL THIS YEARS AND I STILL LOVE HER
I missed that, darn, makes me want to replay it. It's been a few years since last time, maybe after I finish Gothic 2
> musical score was well done
You said it was okay and not even the best FF soundtrack.
Theres nothing to debate, you don't like it, assuming you've even played it, then fine. Youre just in a very small minority of people who don't. The vast majority of people - and certainly those who played it on release - regard it as one of, if not the, best games of all time.
If you're interested in simply hearing others opinions, like you claim, don't post highly contentious lists proclaiming why many of the various elements of it are bad, because nobody is going to want to share their opinion with you, because you're being irritating.
She should have made it out.
because the ps1 was popular at the time
trust me, i was there. if it wasn't on the PS1 it would probably not be as popular, but still good
There's sooo much little shit like that in FF7 it's impossible to notice it all. Like I didn't even notice that you only get decisions that influence Cloud's behavior before Mideel. Because Cloud's personality is unstable at that point and he's pretty much guessing at how a 1st Class SOLDIER should act. After Mideel the only choice you get to make with Cloud as far as behavior is whether or not to kill the TURKs. Because Cloud's personality is now set
I think im gonna go start a new game, thanks OP. Some good memories with this game.
>You like thing I don't like, debate me
>what? I just want to know more about it
...
dude, the PS1 in 95 and 96 had a good share of shit games, wasn't til about Crash and on that it picked up. FF7 sold a shit ton and a LOT of that was from normies who never TOUCHED A FUCKING RPG were picking it up because people were saying FF7 was good.
yeah
i had a friend play it who would only play sports games, then he was split between FF7 and madden 97
i know this, because before FF7 almost no one played RPG's or you were called a nerd anyway.
How did a scrub like Cloud manage to sneak up on one of the greatest warriors in the world and stab him in the back?
He had the Pre-Emptive Materia
I'm not even going to play the remake I don't think.
Does anyone else feel this way? I don't want the experience in my head to be sullied by the modern AAA things that will kill the things that made FF7 good.
>Posts pic of himself as an argument
For fuck's sake.
yes do it, i do it every year, i dont know if play with mod this next time
I don't trust you, nor do I think you were there, nor is that even what you said. You said if it was on N64 people who be praising that.
Either way, I couldn't give much of a shit.
>Sephiroth was a cookie cutter villain
Sephiroth wasn't the villain, he died back at the reactor in Nibelheim.
The villain in FFVII is basically his corpse being parroted around by Jenova.
>You're implying FF7's level of adventure is actually high
Although this is subjective I believe FFVII did a very great job at opening the world to you at a steady pace.
Another thing I'd like to add is that the game is great at using its gameplay and story elements simultaneously to bring the player closer to the experience.
A cool example of this is at the swamp when you first leave the town near Midgar.
That serpent is pretty much impossible to kill at that area, so you'll get your shit constantly wrecked until you figure out you need a chocabo.
But once you cross the Swamp you're greeted by another serpent's corpse that has been impaled on a tree by Sephiroth.
It's such a great way to communicate the Enemy's strength to the player without having to resort to only cut scenes or dialog.
yeah
fuck you guy
im right, your wrong
FF7 sold a shit ton more than the other FF on NES and SNES. FF3 was massively praised back in 1994 and it sold good at the time, but not FF7 levels of sold.
