I would do a Power Stone clone, improve in combat and add more special and combo moves. Also I would add extra outfits like Secret Rings, Black Knight, Riders, and Classic character versions

It's definitely worth giving a try.
Customiing Emerl can be pretty fun and there are some fun character interactions.
After the final fight on the death egg in sonic battle, emerl blew himself up to protect everyone.
Eggman somehow found some of his framework, and rebuilt him from the ground up into gemerl.
He didn't "turn evil" and he loved to "play" with everyone. Don't get it twisted.
Meanwhile they put furry OC like Sticks in there, who's apparently more canon than Sally now. What the fuck.
Sally was never really canon, she only appeared in Archie and SATAM, and a small cameo in Sonic Spinball. Sticks had the benefit of being introduced in Sonic Boom, the game the show's based off of.
