What was so bad about it again?
What was so bad about it again?
I liked Dante's design in 2 more than any other.
Helicopter boss
Too easy and the controls are floaty as fuck.
Tempo, dialogue, characterization, combat, enemy AI.
It was boring, down right sleep infusing, Dante was bland and borderline stoic, and the enemies sucked to fight.
It's not without some cool shit here and there but it wasn't as bad as or grandiose as DMC1.
Feh, speak for yourself. I just consider it a bad game period.
what genre is this again??
How to not get Showtime
Helicopter boss, whale boss, tank boss, gameplay was slow as fuck, the world felt dead and dante had aspergers
Still beat it on hard tho
Most bosses literally don't even fucking target you
Listen, I'm a guy who likes games. I don't just mean video games are my hobby, I mean I almost always like any video game I play, even shit ones. The list of video games I strongly dislike is a very, very short list. I had fun with Drakengard's combat. I enjoyed Drakengard 2's story. I like Skyward Sword, and the Last Guardian, and a thousand other games people profess to hate. I love Final Fantasy 2. I unironically played and enjoyed King of Kings on the NES.
This game, however, is absolute unmitigated irredeemable dogshit. I can't say it's the worst game I've ever played, because I have an expansive Sega CD library, but it's vying for the top position, and the fact that it's a sequel to a very popular game and made by a major company makes it a slap in the face.
I played this pile of absolute fuckery for the first time earlier this month MULTIPLE BOSSES can be beaten entirely by standing in once place and fucking holding square. And I'm normally fine with shit like that! I come onto Sup Forums and people talk about breaking the game and I'm like "lol just don't do the thing that breaks the game then", but that's a basic part of how combat should flow, it's like they didn't even playtest this shit. You used ranged attacks while the boss attacks you -> you avoid the attack and punish. Instead I just held square while I watched that fucking minotaur demon swing away at an empty space thirty feet away from me.
Maybe if the story wasn't completely incoherent (I've played Genesis arcade ports that do a better job of explaining where the fuck you are and why you're there) and Dante had more than like two lines in the game, both completely devoid of any personality, or if the environments weren't all so absolutely terrible in both design and appearance there could be something to salvage from this mess.
I should have listened to Sup Forums for once.
Don't worry...
Tell me with a straight face that's not absolutely shitty boss design
It doesn't make sense how we go from DMC1 to DMC2 AND THEN DMC3
Two great, revolutionary games with 1 literal dogshit in between
Literally everything. When I got to the chopper I was praying I was missing something obvious, only to look up vids after the fact and see that yeah, you're supposed to just shoot it with guns for five minutes while it barely attacks you. The only way to really speed things up being to animation cancel the rocket launcher that you won't have on your first playthrough
IIRC wasn't DMC2 some completely different game that they tried to rush into being a DMC game, with Itsuno eventually brought on in the last months just to make sure it'd even launch on time?
I haven't played DMC3 yet, loved DMC1. Looking forward to moving on from this turd.
>Shoot the chopper to death long before that
>lol nerd you were supposed to run because it's so scary
Just skip DMC2 entirely. It doesn't matter in any sense
It's too late user
I already played it
I should have listened when people told me not to play it but usually I enjoy whatever it is anyways and I think people just like hating things. All the discontent on Sup Forums numbed me to your warnings and I played it and--perhaps for the first time--I wish I hadn't.
Nothing really. In comparison to its older and younger siblings, it's the black sheep. It has the best design for dante and one of the cooler devil triggers. The minigun palms that have overlapping sound effects were pretty cool. I prefer the other games in the series, but this one has its own special charm.
DMC1 was directed by Kamiya. DMC2 was directed by Itsuno. DMC3 was also Itsuno, but was basically an apology for 2 and his way of saying he'd learned from his mistakes.
Itsuno was actually only brought on board halfway through development of 2 because it was going so badly. He just wanted to start over with 3 and pretend that 2 never happened.

It was always DMC2, but yes, Itsuno was handed the project half way through completion.
Maybe if it was a finished, playable fucking game
This was so awful
>The helicopter appears outside the building
>Kill it without too much difficulty
>See no other option but to enter the building
>Guess who's back?
>Bland as fuck helicopter chase sequence that leads to an even blander boss battle on top of a skyscraper
I wonder why didn't I just call it quits then and there
This game is literally only like 3-4 hours and it still manages to be utter dogshit
If I was a teacher at some shit game design college and this was a group's project I would fucking fail them, it's depressing that this came out of Capcom
We'll never know who was the real director for DMC2
We only know that Itsuno tried to save it
>2013's fantastic reboot, DmC
Im not fan of powerlevel bullshit, and i havent played DMC2 yet, but isnt Dante there in his prime, a demigod stronger than anything on hell?
Shouldnt he put down an helicopter with a single swing?
It's a demon helicopter stolen directly and without reservation from Shinobi
Well DMC4 Dante probably could smash the savior with a Full Release, but choose not to because of Nero inside
DMC2 Dante is probably something like being tired and bitter and not wanting to use his full power or shit like that
It's retarded anyways
Yep, DMC2 is post-DMC4, so he's supposed to be at his strongest here
And I'd say the dissonance in power levels also happens in DMC3 and 4 a lot. You get these cutscenes of Dante being a badass, tanking hits like it was nothing and one-shotting a lot of stuff, but then you actually play and he's way weaker than his cutscene counterpart
Maybe he pulls his punches so he can have fun for longer? I don't know. Maybe, following that, in DMC2 everything takes forever to kill because he cares so little he barely puts any strength behind his attacks
...
It's the dark souls 2 of dmc
Dark Souls 2 was a disappointment but not like this
I bought this as a kid and even then I knew it sucked, it literally made me ignore DMC3.
yeah it's nowhere near as bad as this game, but idk man even aesthetically the games reminds me of each other. They both lack the atmosphere and feel of their prequels and just feel uninspired all around.
Playing through DMC1 again recently, and man that game had great atmosphere.

This
The only good thing about it are the designs and the mobility. Shame it means fuck all for the gameplay
Guns are too OP.
Swordplay is basic and barebones.
There are no different weapons, just different swords with different damage and reach.
Airplay is clunky.
Some enemies don't even attack you, they just attack the air because the devs expected you to be in front of them.
Story and dialogue is boring and Dante is the caricature of a gritty action hero rather a self-aware parody.
That shitty helicopter boss fight.
You must beat the game as Lucia to keep advancing in the story.
The music is probably the best in the series, the characters have some very nice movement animations, and the customizable DT is pretty cool, but other than that the game is pure thrash.
Here are some of the problems I noticed when playing DMC2:
>Stage design is ass. Areas are too large. Demons only appear in certain pre-designated areas, so you'll often find yourself traveling for entire minutes at a time with fuck-all to do.
>Guns are overpowered. A large number of enemies can be easily dealt with just by mashing square. Unlike in other DMC games where gun-juggling can only be done if the enemies have already been launched into the air with a melee strike, in DMC2, it often happens automatically.
>Enemies are weak and stupid. Half the time they don't even aim for you.
>There are many airborne enemies in the game, and there aren't any reliable ways to hit them beyond guns. So many fights will simply consist of you standing in place and mashing square, even if you're deliberately trying not to do that.
>Even when the enemies are grounded, you'll still find that because of the excessively large areas, it's actually more efficient to spam ranged attacks rather than run all the way to the other side of the room to attack whatever's there. Stinger doesn't have a very large range in this game, and there's no way to upgrade it so it's not very reliable.
>Speaking of signature moves, many of Dante's more advanced techniques are completely unreliable. This game features prototypes for many of Dante's future mainstays, such as Rainstorm, Twosome Time, Aerial Rave and Trickster. However, the hit detection is finicky and certain moves have very specific conditions for activation, making them pretty much useless. You'll find that Proto-Rainstorm in particularly is actually outright intrusive as it'll activate automatically whenever you try to shoot immediately after a double-jump, but since it can't hit anything, you'd NEVER want to use it.
>All melee weapons behave exactly the same, just with slightly different reach and damage values. Merciless has slightly longer reach than Rebellion, but does slightly less damage in exchange. Vendetta is the opposite. There is no reason to use anything other than Vendetta once you get it because the reach difference is too minimal to make a difference, and anything that allows you to end the boring enemy encounters even slightly faster is a welcome change.
>Most of the differences between Dante and Lucia are fairly pointless. While it's true that their attacks are very different, it will never, EVER make a difference. Whether you're playing as Dante or Lucia, neither makes the game more or less difficult and the way you play won't change regardless of who you're controlling because none of it really matters. The ONLY real significant difference between the two is that Lucia has underwater stages, which are shit.
>All ranged weapons become the same thing in Devil Trigger. It doesn't matter whether you're using the shotgun or rocket launcher, the moment you activate Devil Trigger, he just shoots electricity.
>I should have listened to Sup Forums for once.
Sup Forums was around in 2003?
He played it this month.
They fucked up the Stinger. In the first game it makes you feel like a human torpedo, in 2 you take two dainty steps and give the target a little poke.
They fucked up everything, user.
The only praise I can give to DMC2 is that, unlike DMC1, the dialogue doesn't make me want to stab myself in the leg to distract myself from how painfully bad it is.
noone? ok
The coin flip gimmick was pretty cringy though. And Dante probably flips the coin more times than what he opens his mouth.
I can't knock it, since knowing how it works let me get Dante in my party for just 1 macca.
>tfw I forced myself to play DMC2 for hours, but still had to look up which side I was supposed to choose
I gotta admire how Nocturne's Dante had so much attention to detail with stuff like the animations, how he doesn't get damaged if you jump from the fuckhuge tower, and even little thing like the coin. Which makes his lack of Pierce even more painful.
is this a pasta? if not it should be
I really never had a problem with this. Voices break.
