If you play the original P4, he's the only "major" character who doesn't have a social link. Plus he feeds into the whole "goofy guy who's really sinister" archetype, especially with how he always coincidentally shows up to drop info your way just when you need it.
On the other hand, in P4G, the fact he has a really strange social link probably raises flags, especially if you think about how jesters rarely have a positive image.
Either way, nowadays with the inclusion of him in Ultimax and P4D as DLC, they've pretty much given up on him being a spoiler character. If you pick up the game unspoiled nowadays, you're lucky.
