2 is a straight upgrade that fixes all the issues the first game had

I prefer Dead Rising 2, but Dead Rising 1 has more depth/difficulty to it. Also the better protag, though I still really like Chuck.

The idea of an open world zombie game in a big town is awesome, but it's not right for Dead Rising. Dead Rising needs memorable locations & you need to run through hordes of zombies. DR3 & 4 were driving fests; it's mildly fun to run over tons of zombies in a car, but it's much more fun to traverse your through a mall or casino of zombies.
