Street fighter v

How the fuck do I get good at this game?

I'm 40 hours in I have not gotten one fucking ranked win. I have no idea what to do. I play akuma and the usual fight goes like this

>I get knocked down, can't do shit opponent gets free combo
>opponent gets knocked down, somehow he hits me first he gets free combo

What the fuck is up with this game what am I supposed to do to win

Get some tutorials and guides from the net.

I don't know what people recommend, but I found plenty on reddit.

Once you learn all the shit it becomes second nature, then you just have to git gud, which is the hard part.

ive fucking watched a million tutorials, I know what all of my fucking attacks do and the frame data.

is there no fucking channel that just tells you what to do or a general game plan?

Kinda gotta figure that one out yourself. Maybe try watching some other akumas and see what thier approach is to other players.

Another thing is to get a sparring partner that's the same skill level, practicing against the same person calms you, lets you go through with your game plan and does wonders for your execution.

can you explain what to do when i get knocked down? when they get knocked down?

I always thought about making videos for people like you, going over what every button is used for in different games and all that jazz. Didn't bother because I don't like SFV. Maybe I should do some videos after all.

Anyways, short rundown of SFV: after blocking normals you are usually at a disadvantage, meaning they can stick out buttons earlier than you can. When you block specials you are usually at an advantage. There are exceptions, especially when they use ex meter, but that should help for now.

You are knocked down, welcome to the shitty 50/50 of getting thrown of meaty(an attack, where you wake up into the hitbox). After the meaty it's usually another 50/50 of throw and frametrap(because the previous button was plus aka at an advantage, your buttons get out after theirs and you get hit). The frametrap is usually followed by another frametrap or special.

If it's a special, it's your turn. If it was another normal, jump back with a light attack, because they might dash in or jump at you. Yes, that's another mixup in SFV. It's dumb.

In general: block and wait your turn or try to escape. Maybe switch characters. Akuma isn't great for beginners and there are more straight forward characters.

hth

How can you play 40 hours without learning anything. Have all your 40 hours of play just been against the computer on easy?

it just fucking happened again, the opponent grabbed after getting knocked down and he somehow got the grab before mine

what kinda bullshit is that

btw on their wakeup, you got the 50/50. Learn the timing on when to throw or press a button. Some characters can get out with meter, but it's risky for them and when you guess it, you can punish them hard.

Medium punch, medium punch is usually a frametrap. Too tired for the rest. Good luck.

Well basically it's a coin toss sort of game. Just try and guess what they're gonna do and pick the best course of action. If you fuck up.. oh well it's a game.

Online is pretty garbage. Get used to being thrown, even though you shouldn't. If you know a throw is coming for sure, it might be best to hold up.

yeah but it isn't a 50/50 for me I'm losing every single knockdown including my opponents.

I figured it would be a defensive game, okay but like what about the cross airs or whatever theyre called? because when I get to predict and block low they just jump over and hit me.

Do you have any akuma specific tactics?

Go to training mode.
Record a situation where you knockdown the dummy and he wake up with a jab
Practice hitting him as soon as he wakes up (meaty), interrupting his jab attempt
Do it a lot, both for normal wakeup and quick wakeup
Profit.

Please play a better game, SFV is supreme ass. Worst relevant fighting game out there, worse than MvC3.

Play guilty gear

If you're a beginner don't pick akuma as main.

It's a very offensive game, you just don't have the timing down yet. It takes time and even people with hundrets of hours mess up the timing every now and then.

You are talking about cross-ups. When the opponend jumps over you and you have to block away from them.

Watch Akuma matches and write down the normals they use. I havent unlocked him, so I don't know his inputs and stuff, but his punch special seems to be good on opponents wakeup and is plus on block.

Gonna sleep now, Hope my stuff helped.

Don't listen to this. SFV is fine to somewhat learn fighting games. The bad habits you get aren't nearly as bad as SF4s. SFV just fails at being a good SF game.
Atleast you can take SFV seriously. As much as I like playing Marvel, it's super dumb.

Good advice. Understanding this and getting your punish down is the key to getting started

>Akuma
Don't play Akuma. Not only is he hard to play, but when playing online, he's the worst character in the game. If the game lags, you can lose 40% of your life, even though you didn't even make a mistake.

On top of that, Zangief can kill you in 2 mixups.

Also, here's a guide on wakeup.
On offence, you mostly are going to rely on three tools:
>Grab
Do this if you think they're going to block
>Crush counter
Do this if you think they're going to grab break, or jab
>Block
Do this if you think they're going to EX reversal, or DP.

There are some other tricks that are character specific (Command grabs, Akuma flip, anti-OS setups, ect.), but otherwise, that's what you're going to be doing.

Defense is very simmilar.
>Block
Use this to beat crush counters
>Grab break
Use this to beat grabs, as well as blocking
>EX reversal
Beats jab and grab, but costs meter
>Jump
Beats command grabs.

>Bullshit
Now here's the tricky stuff.
Some players will try to run in and grab or crush counter when they're too far away to get a true meaty. Jabbing allows you to get big damage combos against these players. However, use this sparingly, because some players will make it look like they're dashing in, but do something different like wakeup jump, SPD, sweep, ect. Also, a well timed meaty will beat jabs 100% of the time, so most likely you'll end up getting CC'd to death if you get jab happy.

Hahahahah only 40 hours

You stop playing this shit game, get Fightcade and download ST.

Were you playing earlier today? I am ranking up an alt and I was playing my Juri. I air threw some rookie Akuma 3 times straight because he would not stop jumping.

If that was you, stop fucking jumping.
