Why did everyone hate the dpad again?I thought it was fine

Why did everyone hate the dpad again?I thought it was fine

Because you used it in in-game menus at best

Play any 2D game first with it and then we'll talk.

>Press left
>goes up
Every fucking shield d-pad

I ended up liking it. 360 pad is best simply cause its easy to replace and super easy on PC

>Tried playing Mega Man 7 the other day
>Remember why I don't play any 2D platformers with this piece of shit

How is it easier to repair compared to every other d-pad

People like the controller, just not the d pad, because it has awful precision

Yep. Sometimes it's infuriating even in 3D games.
>Dark Souls
>change item during a boss fight
>why am I hitting with my bare hand?
Fuck this.

That's why I have an X360 controller and a Dual Shock.

Try play a 2d Mario game with it I almost always revert to the stick on Mario bros wiiu

It's pretty much all Nintendo's fault. They patented their D-pad design so no one else is ever allowed to use it. Sony got the next best thing so everyone else is stick with this shit.

...is what I would say, but the Sega Genesis controller seemed to work just fine, so I don't get why Microsoft can't get it to work.

That expired in 2005

isnt that a circle pad not a Dpad?

Then why's Microsoft still using that shit? Is it just petty pride?

>"Well shit, Nintendo and Sega are still using the first and second-best D-pads. Best stick to #3 so that no one can say we're copying them."

I had a really bad time trying to walljump on Super Metroid with this piece of shit. Serves me right for being a disgusting pirate.

So what's a good controller for playing sidescrollers with? Because this ain't working out for me.

I personally like the DS4 as well as Logitech dpads. Xbone should be good too if you're okay with the layout.

I picked up the Xbone Elite, the Dpad is a bit better but still dogshit. At least now it works well for items and menuing, at least.

What are you talking about? The Xbox One controller doesn't have a shitty d-pad like the 360

Overly sensitive diagonals.

BTW, a lot of you guys probably don't know this, but the Xbox One's D-pad has dead zones in the D-pad. I noticed this after watching streamers play Chrono Trigger on emulation. Everyone using and Xbox One controller couldn't move diagonally. Only after going into the menu and manually setting diagonals would it work.

What D-pad? It's a joystick with a d-pad shaped cover.

Its funny how perfect this controller was. It was so fucking perfect microsoft had to go and make the xb1 controller worse because there was no way to improve on the 360 controller. They need to make 360 controllers work on the xb1

only faggots the play fighting gaems xD didn't like it.

I don't even know where to begin with you.

it was fine for games that used it for items but using for plat formers would be horrible

Because it was garbage and they were really variable in their quality. It was just another stick with a piece of plastic slapped on it. I had like 6-7 controllers over the course of my 360s lifespan and probably 2 of those had a d-pad that wasn't frustrating to use consistently. One of them was ridiculously offset towards the bottom, though still usable.

Because it operated like a stick, depending on how fucked your dpad was, you'd have controllers which would tilt in different directions. So on one controller if you pushed left, it might instead input right because as the dpad tilted (instead of depressing like a button) it would slide downward.

The really badly offset one got fairly well known around the flat when Dark Souls released because of the rage it induced in some of our flatmates when you wanted to get to your Estus and were instead putting your shield away and shit.

Most consistent way to use them was to put your thumb on the opposite side you wanted to press and then pull it over. The quality of those controllers went up as the end of its lifespan came up but even now my wired microsoft controller I use for the PC still occasionally gets the input wrong if I'm not perfectly accurate.

To add on (forgot to say this), i bet anyone using a 360 controller would stomp xb1 users in multiplayer games and I'd love to give it a spin for halo 5 and mcc. Fuck the xbone is underrated, looking forward to tomorrows BC games as tuesdays was kek worthy.

This is bullshit cried out by underage

Played games like sonic generations, n+ and so on just fine only using the dpad. Played catherine entirely using the dpad, getting into the top 50 on each babel course. In games with menu switching like gears, RE5, dark souls, or ninja gaiden 2, phantasy star universe, the dpad always worked excellent. The dpad meme is overblown by shitters who probably don't even press the thing in the right direction

okay, good for you. the original dpad wasn't that good but the transforming dpad was decent

I have 3 controllers. Dec 2005, nov 2009, march 2013, all regular

The 2009 one is my favorite and 2005 would be first if the sticks didnt lose their grips. The 2013 one looks brand new still. Ive seriously never had problems with that controller, it feels like people just see a negative stigma around it, join in to bash it, and come out looking retarded is all
