What makes Morrowind better than later bethseida games?

What makes Morrowind better than later bethseida games?

Care.

Nostalgia

The world is interesting and worth exploring for it's own sake. Also the levelling and combat system is more complex.

Pretty much this. Morrowind comes off more like a labor of love as well. You can really see they devoted a lot of time to details big and small. They were clearly interested in creating a believable world, with interesting stories.

Even Oblivion to some extent tried. But if you look at anything Fallout 3 to now, it seems more like they're just interested in pumping out "Another one" and then they alternate between TES and FO

- world building
- engrossing mechanics
- hand placed content
- interesting factions
- very good Main Quest, which contributes to the whole understanding of the world better, offering a natural incentive to complete it.
- leaves the player create his own approach in quests and general direction.
- mix between old and new game design (a defect for some)

Also - nostalgia. I won't lie - Morrowind was for many people the first TES - but that sure as hell doesn't negate that fact that it is the most comfiest ever.

Also
- mods for Morrowind are THE BEST. content-wise, the work put into some projects (still alive today) is amazing compared to later titles.

>engrossing mechanics
what do you mean?

The setting, the books, and the unique loot which actually feels like a reward.

Oblivion was my first TES. It's a relatively forgettable game compared to Morrowind. Morrowind has that non-Tolkien world, it feels so alien, but at the same time fully realized, like a real place with people who have real problems and conflicts. And the way the game is designed, it doesn't revolve around your existence, you're just a foreigner trying to make it after you are set free in a penal colony. Everyone treats you like shit and it takes a lot of menial tasks before you make a name for yourself in one of the factions. It's even ambiguous if you are really the prophesied hero in the main quest at all.

Morrowind is the definition of a storyfag game because the gameplay is pretty much holding W and mashing M1 in the shitty combat, but the world is so unique that it doesn't even matter.

your nostalgia that you never grew out of

It's not really, it has 0 replayability cause if you know anything about the game you can become OP in less than a minute (even without exploits/cheating) just by knowing where things are

It has shit gameplay mechanics

It has a relatively bad story and bad character interactions, but it has more dialogue overall and a more interesting world than the others

It's ugly even with the overhaul

It's a great game though, and definitely AMAZING for its time.

I do not believe it holds up nowadays at all.

>walk into arrilles's place
>bunch of blades are chilling out
>read the bar license
>THIS PLACE IS ALLOWED TO SERVE ALCOHOL AND REPORT YOU TO THE LOCAL BALIFF

His eyes are everywhere, Outlander.

asthetic
skills
magic crafting
dialogue
weird side quests

>0 replayability
wrong
there enough factions to replay it it least 3 times no one forces you to exploit

>shit gameplay mechanics
>muh miss miss miss
only because you don't grasp it doesn't mean it's shit. its an rpg ffs

>relatively bad story
wrong
>bae character interaction
first valid point so far

>ugly
non argument, graphic whore

>do not believe it holds up nowadays
almost as if more casuals started playing video games who only value good looks and believe every marketing campaign and cinematic trailer they see

Game don't look halfbad with MGE XE, a landscape texture replacement, and some head/body mods.

Mostly the world and the main quest. Most of the side-quests are boring as fuck though

Morrowind is trash compared to Witcher 3. Later games are literal shit.

sorry we are talking RPGs here

i would have consensual intercourse with gabbard

Take off the nostalgia goggles and go give it a try.

I also said not including exploits.

I also didn't state which mechanics, but miss miss miss isn't a big issue because I do understand that mechanic and having fortify attack or boosted/leveled weapon skills to help ( I even know that Luck boosts your chance to hit ) and I play D&D, so it's not an issue.

It is ugly, graphics are a valid point in videogames, doesn't make me a 'graphic' whore, I'm criticizing a flaw within the game. It was good looking for its time though.

The story is pretty bad/bland, no ! wait, I actually think the story itself is good now that I mull over it. I do not think it is delivered well within the game though.

I've played videogames for a long time and I consider graphics to be the least of my worries, but if it's pretty it's a plus, if it's ugly it's a minus, I think that's pretty normal my friend. Gameplay > All for me.

Morrowind is definitely amazing, and really fun, and people should play it at least once, but pretty much only once. I do not think it is better than Oblivion, but it's better than Skyrim.

>It was good looking for its time though.
No, it wasn't even good looking back then, man.

Yes it was. Don't say shit if you weren't around then.

yeah it was

Bullshit. I came when I first saw the water effects in Morrowind.

>tfw the morrowind main quest was basically 'fake it till you make it'
>tfw Todd was just trying to teach us how to live in the real world
>tfw we never listened

Because Morrowind was their Final Fantasy 1. They actually put effort into the game.

After it was a major hit, made mad dosh. They went right back into mediocre but here's the lucky thing, the medium was overtaken by casuals that would eat literal shit if it had a brand name on it.

I like how quickly you get into the game unlike skyrim in oblivion

...

*and

I replayed it mid 2016 vanilla

The OP asked why it's better than the sequels and considering
there's nothing the others have over it besides graphics and size.

I could understand why people like Oblivion better if they really can't stand the combat system but Skyirm? No way.

Do you mean the starting sequence?

Yeah it's a quick character creation and off you go do what you like.

Skyrim is the worst because you unlock dragons and dragon shouts only by doing a bit of the main quest.

I remember playing MW for the first time and accidentally selling the papers I had to bring Caius and just wandered off because I didn't read everything as a kid

>Morrowind sold one million copies
>Oblivion sold four million copies
>Skyrim sold 20 million copies

What the ever-loving fuck does the pic have to do with Morrowind, exactly?

I like how the main quest lacks the sense of urgency. Even if you decide to go to Caius, first thing he tells you to do is to dick around.
