So Sup Forums, I'm thinking of picking up one of these. I have enough space for room play and I'm wondering if it's worth the investment. Do any anons have one and can recommend it?
So Sup Forums, I'm thinking of picking up one of these...
Was kinda curious about VR myself, is it any good?
Although I'm interested in VR, it's too expensive now
Op here, been browsing steam VR titles and some of them are intriguing, I've never experienced VR though.
2 friends have it. Its amazing. I thought it would be shit before I tried it. The technology is 100% there, but it suffers from not having much developer backing.
I am gonna wait until it gets cheaper, but I am a future customer.
HTC Vive by the way. I wouldn't get oculus.
Whats the resolution like on the screen though? Are you gonna notice some screen door effect shit or is it actually decent?
VR is actually pretty great but there is a lack of good software and it's obviously very expensive. You also might have issues with motion sickness, particularly with locomotion in seated games. Try it beforehand if you can, only buy if you have a lot of disposable income.
Buy 2 tripods and set aside some money for some online games. Shit pays for itself.
It's noticeable for a while, but your brain starts to ignore it eventually.
>been browsing steam VR titles and some of them are intriguing,
How? I've been frothing at the mouth wanting to buy one since they were announced but every time I go to steam to check what's available I immediately lose all interest. Nearly everything is a stand-in-place wave shooter or racketball sim or some other cheap Unity cash-in garbage.
There is some screen door, and it would be nice to have it at 4k, but its so immersive it doesn't bother me at all.
That's my only misgiving about the tech, it seems under supported right now. Most of the steam titles seem more like tech demos than actual games. How's the headset feel? Is it genuinely immersive?
Really? Damn, now I want one, just wish it wasn't so goddamn expensive
The resolution is noticeably low, but you'd be surprised how immersive it can be anyway. The headtracking, proper depth perception, and the isolation from reality, it makes a big difference.
I would love to try it out but I don't know anyone that has one handy.
Yeah I have no issues at all with the headset feel. The headphones you choose to use with it have more to do with the feel than the actual headset.
I'm sure at some stores they must have a headset testing booth set up somewhere to try it out, considering the price is pretty heavy
That's one of the things I find odd about it. I would likely have to buy wireless headphones or the version with headphones in built and risk them being lower quality than I would like.
I'll have to see if I can find a place.
I got a Vive in the first shipment. It's magic, but definitely for early-adopters and enthusiasts ONLY - if you're wondering if it's for you, it probably isn't. There is no premium 'must play' game/experience just yet - hopefully coming this year, from Valve or Zenimax. However by that time there will be all the new hardware out as well, the new rigid strap, wireless module, etc., and possibly a matching price drop for the 'base configuration'.
Download the VR mod for Doom 3, its the greatest VR thing ever. Legit 10/10 experience once you get it tweaked.
So what ever happened to the Occulus? Is it dead in the water at this point?
Fucked up massively on every level
>Hardware is very locked down
>Inferior in every way to the Vive
>PR disaster after trying to force and buy exclusives for their "Platform"
I actually prefer the Oculus Touch over the Vive rods. I hope that the Vive successor will use something like them with HD Rumble.
they were demoing these back at SDD in October, but the imminent release of the Vive Trackers (late March), and multiple different legit VR Glove products designed to work with them, makes me think they may never materialize.
Not to mention they now have to pay Zenimax $500 mil
Wait for chinkvr or japvr.
They flubbed the launch so hard that 'Oculus VR' is pretty much dead. They're pulling all their resources back from 'high end' VR (aka real VR) to focus on a mobile or 'standalone' product, probably AR rather than VR. this is why the 'vr meme' circlejerk threads have recently shifted to 'maybe AR will be good'
oculus stopped to be relevant for vr, its all vive now, and that psvr meme which only exists because of timed exclusives. to bad HTC doesnt have any more competition on the market. they would surely back down on their prices if oculus would have been a serious competitor at any time. but their headset which should have been the one to jump start vr got sued into the ground and fucked up by facebook into irrelevance. HTC in the end saved the day, but now they just charge for their hardware what they want. chinese really have to step up at this point.
