Post some of your favorite examples pls. I just finished Arkham Asylum and I really enjoyed the Scarecrow parts.
Hallucination/mindfuck/trippy sequences in vidya
inb4 MGS1 and 2
One of the more recent games would be FFXV
Ardyn be messin' with your mind, yo
killer7
I guess this counts?
Eternal darkness had a lot of good ones.
oops
Oblivion, the Warrior's Guild quest where you free a village from a "goblin" infestation.
GOTTA GET A GRIP
...
That specific Scarecrow part is the best because the start of it is the fake game crash and save data corruption thing and if you didn't know about it you get that brief moment of real panic and fear.
I fucking love this in games. It's one cliche that really takes advantage of the medium in terms of how they design the sequences.
The Psycho Mantis parts were great.
Arsenal Gear was a trainwreck
fuck that house
Also, Spec Ops: The Line, I guess?
>23 minutes long
holy fuck.
Geralt talking to Roach in Blood and Wine
I was extra panicked because I played it on my brand new pc. Definitely wasn't expecting a popular licensed game to go there.
i know the glitch but where was the save data corruption thing? i dont remember about it
Layers of Fear. Great game. Rememoried was nice as well.
After the game "glitches out" it suddenly starts replaying the opening cutscene of the game. IIRC it isn't for a few seconds until you realize it's altered from the original, so it looks as if your entire playthrough just got erased.
Layers of Fear was decent, but it really was just a jump-scare generator.
I liked when the gravity turned itself off though
What is this from? I've seen it a couple of times but I've forgotten what the deal is.
Datura had a couple.
I liked when the room he was sitting in turns into a train. Same thing happened to me first time I had mushrooms, except I was in a dugout.
Does Bloodborne count?
>nobody mentions Max Payne
Fuck all of you. Gaming is dead.
The dream and drug sequences in Max Payne were easily the worst parts.
Walk along a bloody line, what fun
Would've actually preferred a cutscene
oh right i know that. when you said save data corruption, i thought game says that. because ive finished the game maybe 3 times but never saw save thing. its only replay of intro cutscene

I agree with him on the part that videogames are made for stuff like this.
In literature you're forced to imagine what you read.
In music it usually has indicators (droning sound, harp sounds) which makes it clear.
In film you dont really have control over what's happening and you expect artistic stuff like that.
However in videogames you just stop and check if it's real.
Take pic related for example.
To you, it's there. In the game. So what are you gonna do?. Is it a dream or just some weird fantasy twist.
Also, if they use indicators like blurry, grey screen and weird camera shaking it ruins the moment.
the old Arkham games sure look like shit after playing Knight.
...
...
Drinking the poison in Arkham City was also really nice.
AC Unity and Black Flag have cool sequences as well.
why harley and batman havent fucked already? literal 3D porn game models and half the scenes look like BDSM roleplay with nurses and executioner masks
Spec ops.
This whole fucking game, and it's glorious.
I have no idea why this isn't more popular here.
Uncharted 3
it was okay
Shut the fuck up, onsokumaru.
chasing your dead son in Heavy Rain
Holy fuck I want to play this game now. These are fucking fantastic, I can't even remember the last time games tried to fuck with you like this (LMAO the TO BE CONTINUED IN THE SEQUEL one).
Good shit. The combat frustrated me for a while at first, but once I got the hang of it, I really enjoyed it.
Does the Joker know Bruce is Batman?
...
P.T.
>tfw shot the mirror and walked out of the building as if nothing happened
I disagree, the steam page tells you that it is a "meta" game, which ruins the surprise
Its just a lot of 4th wall breaking with a slight amount of commentary on vidya developing, like that hallway where you find the emails sent by the developers who worked with the narrator
To be honest i'm kind of sick of games doing that sort of shit, they end up looking as pretentious to me
yes, he calls him bruce all the time, but revealing his identity would ruin his fun so he doesn't
What's going on here?
Bravely default was the last game to break the 45th walk well.
Dead space 2 does the whole hallucination thing pretty well, especially with the return to Ishimura.

c'mon guys. no one?
...
Damn, beat me to it
yeah. the platforming was terrible, but this catch me off-guard.

I'm a big fan of everything to do with The Fade in Dragon Age Origins. It's not quite a hallucinations but they do some neat stuff with it.
The Darkness and The Darkness 2 had god-tier delusions.
One of your teammates reappears after the locals killed him. After you kill him again it turns out he was just an enemy soldier.
that house spooked the fuck out of me
I thought it was just a cozy winter home
what game is that?
Basically the whole game.
>CTRL + F
>No Hotline Miami
Are you even trying anons?
He does so only in Knight's halucinations though, where he is a part of his head. Normally he doesn't know, at least in Arkham universe. And he isn't too interested either, it's Batman who's he's fixated on, not the man behind the mask.
...
Are you even reading the thread fuckface?
And when you go inside the painting to fight the trolls
as a die hard idra fan, i hated that moment, i hated the fucking reposting of that all over. i hated all the shit he got for it.
however this context was 10/10. nice.
I remember both Metro games had some trippy sequences.
It's probably one of the most fun games I've played on Gamecube. Good luck securing a physical copy. Better off just softmodding a Wii that has Gamecube controller ports and burning a copy onto a disc to play it. Finding a cheap copy of Eternal Darkness isn't likely.
Also there is a sequel to ED, but it's more of a spiritual sequel. There was actual talks of there being a sequel, but fell through.
What was that? He saw a large army and gave up thinking he had no chance?
Oblivion had some fun quests
That was the fastest way in the game to level up sneak. That quest was fun too.
yes. there was too many void rays, and idra had a broodlord based army with too little anti air.
But it does it so well done.
ICEY
I told you, I CTRL + F'ed
you could max out stealth in the tutorial
youtube.com
I have never followed comp RTS or really comp anything but this is arguably the funniest thing i have seen next to the >Fighting Game Community vids
no he doesn't, not in the arkhamverse you tripper
only head joker does which makes sense because... well... its in his head
Plot twist
That's sad, but lets be honest a sequel would probably ruin everything that made that game good anyway by trying too hard to appeal to modern audiences. No horror game (besides PT which isn't even a real game) has tried anything like fucking with the player in the last 7 years (at least none I can remember).
