The power of not having a wannabe Hollywood director eating up all your profits.

>he actually believes this

Pachinko and Freemium games is where the money is

>Kojima still eating up their profits months after he was fired in mid 2015
really makes you think

>Konami started doing pachinko and freemium games in 2017
Nice one, Kojidrone

All that money and Rising 2 will still never ever be made.

It will be as a pachi slot.

DELETE THIS

NOOOOOOOOOO KONAMI WAS SUPPOSED TO DIE NOW THAT THEY FIRED KOJIMA NOT THRIVE!!!!!

Why do Japanese love Pachinko so much. It's just a Las Vegas in walking distance from your house.

What the fuck is pachinko?

>Why do Americans love Las Vegas so much. It's just a Pachinko hundreds of miles from your house.

Gambling addiction

Same reason why Fantasy Football is so popular in the US, it's gambling disguised as a sports game

its not pachinko, Netflix is buying their CAsterlvania franchise

basically Japanese slot machines

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pachinko

the average american will never visit las vegas

many americans who visit las vegas hate it

and certainly not everyone who goes to las vegas is american

that said, las vegas has glitz and whores and high rollers, and some pretty good shows to go to. so at least there's that as the potential appeal.

pachinko...

you just reminded me of Rising

time to listen to some speed metal

>started in 2017

amazing how they've released the machines years before they started working on them

They have been making pachislots since 2006, or do you seriously believe that they only started with the Castlevania and MGS ones?

how many pachislots were they making before 2015?

how many since?

Pachinko is more like Japanese pinball. The Japanese slot machines are called Pachislot or Pachisuro. There is an overlap between both businesses though.

Pachislot/Pachinko mostly appeal to middle-aged salary men in their 30's and 40's who seek a quick stress reliever after work. Hence why a lot pachinko/pachislot machines tend to be based on old franchises that were popular 20 and 30 years ago.

>skip the middle man
>make the whole fucking game DLC

>Fire Kojima
>Company starts making record profits

Really makes you think

I don't know, do you have any data besides Sup Forums shitposts and your own butthurt?

Could I open a pachinko parlor, without Mafia fucking my shit up? I live in a city with a lot of Asians and Japanese.

Pachinko is the only legal form of gambling in Japan. That's all you need to know in terms of why Konami wants to focus on it.

Do you think pachinko will die once Japanese goverment allows actual gambling?

I'd worry more about the triads and the Albanian mafia if I were you

Konami has a near monopoly of Japanese gambling and they also make something like 1/3 of all slot machines in Las Vegas.
They wanted off Vidya because it aways was their least profiting bussiness.

All the Pachinko machines prior to 2014

As you can see, they made quite a few. It's not even the video game division making these, but a separate subsidiary of Konami. I wish Kojimadrones would get their facts straight about the company he used to work for.

Meh, I just want good videogames. But hey, let's defend a company instead!

Otherwise it's a money draining oven.

>now he leeching off Sony
Best timeline

Some accountant make sense of these numbers for me.

Making fun of Kojima fanboys is not saying that Konami isn't also shit. I hope that at least the Switch Bomberman game is good

Theres literally no reason to make actual video games now

This is my favorite video game

pls being back suikoden

They have profit because they are not spending anything

>tfw living in Japan, drinking boss coffee and chain smoking while playing Pachislot

Making ~$300 from an initial $5 investment and then spending it all to get shitfaced at izakaya with your friends is a feeling better than drugs

Nope. People can just exchange pachinko balls to money instead of crap.

I fucking love pachinko. My grandpa used to have a super old pachinko machine, I wonder whatever happened to it...

Such a lust for pachinko but no for actual game......
KONAMIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!

Dumb frogposter making up stories without even knowing how pachislot operate

Konami is run by the Yakuza, they will swap only very swiftly (and that's if they aren't already doing illegal gambling under the hood).
Odds are, they are lobbyng for the gambling liberation.
Consider that Konami is one of the biggest suppliers of Gambling-related machines to the US

>konami making new games

ZAWA~
ZAWA~

You will get it. Not as pachislots I assure you.

As an actual gambling den when japs finally legalize gambling.

I know exactly how they operate because I spent several hours in the parlor with my friend a while back. We sold all of our tokens for cash and spent the rest of them on cigarettes at the exchange counter.

Nice damage control

Do you do it outside? Shits illegal right? I mean, exchanging tokens with money not with shits over the counter.

Basically, revenue is how much money is coming in. Profit before income taxes is your revenue minus any expenses incurred, like salaries and maintenance. Profit for the period is your profit minus income taxes. Earnings per share is just a measure of how much the company makes per issued share. Simply put, the bigger the number the better the company is generally doing.

With Konami, even though they brought in less money in the FY (fiscal year) 2017 period, their expenses were also a lot lower, which gives them a lot more profit to work with.

Just bullshitting.

AHURRRHURRHURR
Yeah they have a little tiny ass shop right in the same parking lot that "buys" your pachinko balls or slot tokens.

Believe it or not, manufacturing gambling machines is significantly less risky than multi year videogame development cycles. By focusing on pachinko, Konami removes risk

Pachinko and mobile pay to win game

Low effort, high profits

Shit, forgot my photo

Pachinko is a stupid game, where you tell the machine to launch a ball for an amount in tokens.

The ball drops down a maze of tiny stoppers and falls in a basket.

Baskets are something like [lose][10 yen]...[600yen]...[jackpot]... ... ...[lose]

Most games, you can only control how fast and how many balls enter the gauntlet. Some have a set of flippers akin to pinball- most of these cases, the flippers are automated as a gimmick.

Ever played Peggle? It's very similar. Normies and casuals get addicted to this shit, cause it doesn't require a lot of brain power, yet offers a lot of flashy lights and noise and even more noise depending on how much you win.

>YoY Revenue change -8.5%
>FY2017 Q1-Q3 163.9 bil yen = 1.4 bil $ US

pathetic

>You released a Snake Eater Pachinko, didn't you? I see what you were trying to do, but testing a method you've only heard about in the middle of marketing wasn't very smart. You were asking to have your fans jump on you. Besides, I don't think you're cut out for gambling parlors in the first place; you tend to remaster your old games on the Fox engine. That's more of a video game developer's technique.
>But, those were some fancy promos. You're pretty good.

>The power of not having a wannabe Hollywood director eating up all your profits.

Yes pretty much that, Konami should have fired him in the first place or forced him to work with a smaller budget.

here is Konami's real face and a glimpse in the future

>80 mil budget
>179 mil profits within 24 hours
>eating up all your profits

Why are so many stupid niggers here?

where exactly did you see those record profits? In your own delusional world?

/thread

Kojima might be a bit of a crazy perfectionist weirdo who takes ages to develop his games, but they aren't really crazy expensive.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_most_expensive_video_games_to_develop

MGSV has like half the dev cost of GTAV, COD: MW2, Destiny.

so will metal gear survive be their last console game?

>Star Wars: The Old Republic
>Development cost: $200 Million
>Marketing cost: $11 Million

And they wonder why it flopped

as long as Jeane is there

>What the fuck is pachinko?

While looking at Wikipedia so I could call you a retard I found out that the Too Human was really fuckin expensive

They probably thought that because it's Star Wars it's going to sell itself, not realizing that every Star Wars movie was accompanied by a heavy marketing campaign

>I found out that the Too Human was really fuckin expensive

it was in development for like 10 years on 2 different systems, that's gonna cost you

A really really stupid form of gambling. Imagine if you took a pinball board, removed the paddles, made everything you need to win "cup" like it does leading to the center, and if you hit inside the hole (Which it bounces out of constantly) you get either nothing, enough yen for a whole ONE ball, enough to cover a handful of balls, or a CHANCE to roll for another chance to win a jackpot. Keep in mind that you have to hit the jackpot not once, but you have to hit the starting jackpot, then the inner jackpot inside of the jackpot area, and then you also have to hit another jackpot within that jackpot within that jackpot and half of the tiles are losers.

Imagine if you will the third layer of the jackpot being Wheel of Fortune except seven-eighths of the board are "Lose a turn" tiles.

anyone else sick of idiots lumping arcades (new games), pachinko and mobile games into the same thing

Like come on, Pachinko is not in anyway related to them

sadly gamergate scum still lingers here like a bad smell

>sales = profit
No user, you are the stupid nigger

>sadly gamergate scum
Could you tell us how you arrived at this conclusion?

...

Konami is one of the biggest lobbyists for legalizing casinos in Japan. They want it to happen bad.

As much as I love Kojima, I'm not surprised that Konami cut him loose. It's harder than ever for big budget video games to turn a profit, nevermind a profit large enough to satisfy shareholders and boost the market value of stock in the company.

Everyone has known for years that freemium is the most profitable model and Konami had been doing that and pachinko well before MGSV came out.

The margins on AAA games are too small, hence the business decision was made not to continue making them.

Nevermind Kojima taking too long, being difficult to work with, going over budget etc (i have no idea how much of that is true anyway) but this was probably a decision that was made years before MGSV came out.

>literally throwing money in a hole

gambling's for the low IQ

This user here

It may be, it may not be. They will probably stay away from big budget AAA games with high profile actors doing voice acting and what not.

Any console games they develop will be developed as cheaply as possible, recycling any assets and code they can, using the Fox engine.

This reduces the amount of staff needed to develop a game, and in turn cuts the biggest expense of any company, which is paying employees.

They can thus produce a cheap game quickly, sell it at a lower cost compared to a AAA game (think $20 or $30 compared to $60) and see how it catches on.

The low initial investment upfront will likely make people more likely to try it and less hesitant to buy it. If the game develops a popular following, you proceed to milk it with DLC, expansions, cosmetics, events etc which are all technically optional.

If not, you can abandon support of the game and move onto another project with a minimal sunk cost.

not anymore user

In terms of the Japanese game industry. MGSV was on par with stuff like GTAV and COD.

>get rid of Kojimbo
>suddenly start making money
Really fires those pulse canons.

Don't forget YuGiOh's resurgence.

just a soros shill spreading disinfo

>Konami is run by the Yakuza

That's Nintendo, not Konami.

But why are contrarians acting like they should be happy Konami cut loose Kojima for profits? Their profits don't effect you, they don't serve you, they have destroyed all their decent franchises for bullshit. They're a garbage company.

>whilst MGSV made back multitudes its own budget and Konami switching almost entirely to mobileshit/pachinkos

Certainly triggers the electro-chemical reactions.

Konami literally makes gambling machines for the half the world. Gambling=mafia. Always.

The day gambling is legalized in jp they will be insanely richer

That's every major fucking Japanese business, are you kidding?

>What is opportunity cost?

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opportunity_cost

Please read through it. It would give you a new outlook on why profitable things are still seen as failures.

Honestly though this is a stupid attitude.

Konami has so many opportunities to succeed in the games market, they have their heads too far up their asses to realize.

They didn't release a single high budget Castlevania on a big platform since Symphony of the Night, to the point where that dude left and had a hugely successful kickstarter.

The haven't released the mgs HD collection on any of the current gen consoles or PC, that's a package that would sell heaps on steam but nope.

But all of a sudden mgsv is actually a success, and they want more. So now we are getting the most uninspired, boring, generic zombie survival game, with the same copied map from V. It's going to fucking suck, but Konami doesn't realize that it's going to be such a failure.

it took like 5 years to make

Yeah sure, but this isn't a fucking scenario where they could expect to do that much better. If mgsv had only had middling success, sure. But the game sold a shit ton, it made them a whole fuckton of money, to the point where they are now going to try and fail to milk the series even further with survive.

Doesn't matter how long, all that matters is the budget.

And a huge amount of that is the cost of engine development too, since they didn't just use one off the shelf.

So tl;dr Konami's mad they could've jew'd people even further with less input given.

This almost reaffirms both his point and why everybody hates them.
