10 years from now, do you think people will look back and praise the wii u or will it go down as one of the worst consoles of all time?
10 years from now...
Wii U is going to end up like every Nintendo system before it in the eyes of so-called "true" gamers. Laugh at it now, lament that you were too mean to it a decade from now.
Meanwhile the competition continues to make bank for the same generic piece of crap but more powerful for several generations in a row.
It's literally Nintendo's dreamcast. Nobody outside of Sup Forums and nintendrones liked it. It has maybe 5 games worth playing.
/vr/ loves the dreamcast though
Because they're hipster contrarians who think that doing the opposite of what everyone else is doing = intelligence
>will it go down as one of the worst consoles of all time?
Absolutely not. "worst console of all time" is reserved for shit like the CDI.
The Wii U had a game win GotY in 2015 from multiple media outlets including Giant Bomb, who is generally pretty cool towards Nintendo. It will have a game that is in contention for GotY in 2017 for sure (even if it is an inferior version).
If a console has exclusives getting GotY consideration, it's probably not all that bad.
/vr/ also loves the super nintendo to....
My rule for buying a console has always been that it requires 7 games on it I want to play that I can't play on my PC. PS4 and Xbone aren't there yet. In fact I'd probably struggle to name 3 games I wanted to play on those systems that I couldn't play on PC. But between Platinum and the Nintendo regulars Wii U got there pretty quickly.
Because they appreciate every old retro videogames?
Duh.
so i guess they arent hipster contrarians then
I liked it more than the 64, GC and Wii.
Plus there's BOTW which may be the best Zelda game
No reason to play a dreamcast today since all the games have been ported at this point, but the DC had incredible games. It's not a meme.
When the Wii came out all Nintendo heard was everyone screaming "Gamecube 2.0! Gamecube 2.0!"
So they made one.
>no exclusive Zelda game
>no decent Mario game
>no decent Metroid game
>no decent Star Fox game
>no Fire Emblem game
>decent Xenoblade
>decent Mario Kart
>decent Smash Bros.
>Spatoon and Mario Maker were decent newcomers
There were no excellent games that will be remembered as classics. I got my money's worth out of my Wii U, but it's definitely the worst proper Nintendo console.
shenmue got ported? outtrigger got ported? all those indie games that were made years after the dreamcast died got ported?
As soon as Shen 1 and 2 get HD ports, i'll agree with ya.
And made even less of a profit
Sadly
>DC had incredible games. It's not a meme
This.
>indie games
Please user. We're talking about actually good games. Noone gives a fuck about Gunlord.
my point still stands.
Shenmu was ported to Xbox. Don't know what Outtrigger is.
Indie games being made exclusively for Dreamcast post death probably suck.
>praise the wii u
for what?
10 years from now I don't think anybody will ever think about the Wii U.
>Shenmu was ported to Xbox
uh what? no it didnt.
>Nintendo's dreamcast.
I know this is hard to believe because the average Sup Forumstard wasn't alive in the late 90s/early 00s, but the Dreamcast was actually popular. It also had a lot of 3rd party support.
This and this. The Wii U is not going to be a hot commodity in the future. Nintendo fucked up.
Dawg there are approximately 4,500 YouTube channels with titles like, "RetroRachel" or "Dave's Retro Gaming Palace" where some person in their late 20s to early 30s with disposable income talks in front of shelves full of old video games.
This will happen for Wii U too. In ten years there will be tons of videos about how underappreciated it was.
That could be chalked up to Nintendo themselves panicking over the PS4's early success and giving up rather than actually doubling down on the thing. Barely 2 years into the Wii U's lifespan and they were already announcing NX.
Meanwhile the PS3 was a piece of shit from roughly 2006-2010, but Sony stuck with it even while the Wii was kicking its face in. Where was Nintendo's conviction this generation? They left Wii U out to die and it didn't deserve that.
Because it's a good console.
of course it is that wasnt the point i was trying to make
I loved the Dreamcast before there was such thing as Sup Forums. Top that mother fucker.
>Dreamcast was actually popular
No. Depending upon what generation you count it as, it was either third place behind the PSone and 64, or fourth place behind the PS2, Xbox, and Cube.
It's flagship and best selling game was outsold 2:1 by a game called Tomodachi Life that 130% of normies have never heard of.
>No
it had the most successful launch in terms of sales until the ps2 launched
it'll most likely go down as just another decent console in history. it was good for its generation vs the other competing consoles but not really anything worth calling a GOAT console or anything like that this is an all time low for nintendo though that keeps getting worse with the switchs release
Remember the Virtual Boy? How crap it was and people paid $20 for it on clearance.
Try to find a working one under $100 now.
The Dreamcast came out like five years after the PSX and N64. It was also discontinued before the Xbox and GCN were even released. In 2 years the DC sold about half of what the GCN sold in 6. If it had had a normal life cycle it would have at least matched the GCN or Xbox in sales.
It was popular before the PS2 was launched and there was a lot of pre-launch hype. Excuse the term, but it was popular with 'gamers'. PS2 was popular with the casual market thanks to IPs like FIFA and GTA, and even more popular with the next-big-fad market, with its singing and dancing games.
The games that force you to use the touch screen won't age well.
It's an intermediate. Without it, I don't think Nintendo would have gotten to the switch. That's it's only noteworthy contribution. It'll be a footnote when talking about docked/portable technology.
it'll be looked on fondly because of the library but I'll still be here to remind them of shit software like tvii, droughts, and other shit
If XCX and #FE don't get ported to the Switch, they will be expensive games in the future. Bayo 2 too.
