Pick up a game outside of your comfort genres. You gotta go deeper.

Play better games user. These are shit. Give sometime like Resident Evil HD or 7 a try. Console games, for all the shit they get on vee, are comfy. Consider playing Odin Sphere, Yakuza, or Bloodborne. Zelda is coming out soon, maybe that?

I have a massive backlog and tons of other older games I want to emulate but I haven't played anything except FFXIV for probably the past 6 months, and now I've more or less run out of things to do in that too.

I don't really get it, I just don't feel the motivation to play anything even though I'm here on Sup Forums talking about games all the time. Been like this for years now, I play through maybe 2-3 games a year.

I haven't played a game in months. I just can't muster the motivation to even try to engage in leisure activities these days. I have lost the capacity for joy completely.

I realized my problem was binging. I would not play anything for awhile, come back and play a game through a single 8+ hour period. And it made me feel like shit. So anytime I thought about going back to a game, I was just reminded of how I was going to feel. Now I play a game for a few hours at most, take plenty of breaks, drink lots of water, etc.

Recently I've been playing through Tales of Xillia and it's pretty fun when I play for a couple hours before bed, but I played it for a whole day and almost got to the point where I never wanted to touch it again. Looking forward to playing it again tonight though

BOTW is the first singleplayer game that I've been legitimately hyped for in years - I haven't really cared much as of late about games, but the biggest cure for my TGS this far has been playing online with friends. It really does wonders for your enjoyment.

If all else fails, just stop playing games for awhile. Hang out with your friends. Go outside, on a hike or something. Explore some of your other hobbies.

Read a book.

Go to the pub with some friends.

Anything but videogames for a while.

Then you'll one day feel like playing again and it will be great.

I just went to one for the first time this month and have been visiting it twice a week. Its an hour away but well worth the drive and I spend almost 8 hours there every time. Fun as fuck to play fighting games locally against other people.

Try other genres. You complain about grinding and steep learning curves. How about a puzzle game? Puzzle Agent is pretty good, quick to get into, no RPG elements, and no twitch shooting. Portal, Talos Principle, and Antichamber are all also very good puzzle games.

Stop making these threads, you're completely misrepresenting the problem. There are hundreds of amazing games you haven't played that can run or be emulated on a toaster. The problem is that you and I are exhausted from real life and cannot muster enough energy to concentrate on video games (or anything else). This is what it means to be a "tired gamer".
What you are describing is completely different; you are someone who does not like video games.

I got a gwent beta key a while ago, didn't play it much. I got a random urge to play it, started playing it and having some fun, then found out everything is being wiped for open beta.

So there goes that motivation to play.

I only play the same old multiplayer games that I've been playing for the past 10 years. Like counter-strike, red orchestra, battlefield.

I play like 2 matches and then I'm done...

Don't even tell me to go too the gym, get a work or go drinking with friends, because I do all that during the week.

Round 1 arcades are pretty great its where I frequent but there are very few in the US.

I was talking to the OP, who only listed a couple games that he was considering playing because of social pressure and not any games he was interested in himself.

Exactly. It's just so hard to commit to starting a new game because time is so limited, the opportunity-cost of starting something new is so high, and we just don't have the energy to immerse ourselves in a video game so we can't get the full experience the game is supposed to offer. It's safer to just play something familiar because we know what to expect and we can play without really thinking deeply.

The root of the problem is that life is exhausting and I don't see any solution. I'm sure I could overcome it if I had enough free time that I could relax as much as I wanted and I didn't have to consider how I was wasting my valuable time, but that's not an option for now. Just hang in there for another 40 years and then you can retire!

The last time I got really deep into a "bored gamer" slump it was Black Mesa on hard that got me out. Pure gameplay always rekindles my interest far more then story games do. Go find your favorite non-dead genre and pick a game from it that just plays really well and hooks you.

Oh, and figure out what you do and don't like and just go for shit you know you'll love. Ignore hype and prerelease info too. Go into games as blindly as you can. Removing the discovery of learning new games as you go really hurts the overall experience.

I'm much of the same. The only games that keep my attention long enough to beat them are EXCELLENT linear games.

Recently played Bayonetta 2 and it was amazing. Decently short, but there was no BS, you go from stage to stage. It's why I can enjoy platformers.

Don't see much of a point in an MMO because without friends to play with, it's literally a grind for no payoff. I had a ridiculous amount of playtime in Runescape (stopped playing maybe 6 years ago), and I tried going back but it all seems so... Meaningless.

I don't know about you, but I miss having a community. Used to be really involved in a clan before I graduated university. Stopped gaming for all of that time and now I've sorta got more time for it.

It was nice playing random servers and just dicking around. It's why the only console games I ever really play much are Mario Kart and Smash, just because playing with friends is the best.

Arcades are also dead in Japan unless you like rhythm games or fighting games. And only new ones at that; it's actually much harder to find a cab of a game more than 5 years old in Japan than in the US.
