Why do you expect to? The whole intention of the storytelling is to emulate the experience of reading a novel whose language you only partially understand.

I'm thankful the PC community made Dark Souls about the memes, rather than the autistic shitfest of lore hunting that was the console community.

tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SpaceJews

There's the fan theory that Kaathe and Frampt are allied together, or even the same being with multiple heads, like a hydra

I thought it was the otherway around.

Why bother explaining the plot when you can visit Anor Londo again? Member Dark Souls? Oh, i member!

THE CHOSEN KNOWS TOO MUCH
SHUT IT DOWN NOW

Is this a nolan reference

Too bad we will never get an actual answer, they didnt even mention them again.

>Member Dark Souls? Oh, i member!
The recent season of South Park was putrid shit.

Dark Souls does NOT have a complete coherent lore / universe. Just like there IS NO Zelda timeline. No matter how bad you want it, it doesn't exist.

I hope you faggots don't expect the new dlc to be longer or even have more than 2 bosses than ashes.

See I a crab?

you saw crabs on your sister?

Is Dark Souls one of the best lore heavy game series due to how mythological it feels?

I still dont get why Gwyn stayed at the kiln after linking the fire, why he sealed the door with a lock that would only open after you killed all his friends and why he was hostile

Yes. It's told in little bite sized bits of information that you'll remember because you see them on loading screens/every item you pick up, and there are no massive exposition dumps.

probably needed A LOT of souls to light the fire.

after a while the fire began to fade so he used his own soul to fuel it, he locked himself in because he knew he would go hollow and didnt want to hurt anybody

He stayed because he was hollow
Either somebody locked his hollow ass in there or he did it to keep himself in there knowing he'd be bad news if he went rampaging across the countryside
He didn't care about Nito, the Witch, and especially Seath.

He didn't even have any association with any of them after the war. He awarded Seath his dukedom probably out of obligation.

>and there are no massive exposition dumps.

The game's intro, also when you first speak to Frampt (though he's mostly bullshitting you)

Only humans can go hollow.
Arent the Lords of Cynder in DaS3 people who linked the fire, survived and then went back to live "normal" lives?

Lords of cinder in DaS3 burned when they linked the fire, they're reanimated ash like the player character, you see them rise from their coffins in the opening cutscene

>Only humans can go hollow.
gwyn was a human idiot

only if giants are humans

I thought it's just cuz he went hollow and forgot to go back.

No he wasnt.
Pygmy created the humans.

>Gywn
>Giant
? ? ?

They're the jews of the Dark Souls universe, pulling the strings behind the scenes, getting you to do their bidding.

Those are both like 10 lines, and even then they tell a simple story.

They don't try to pull some massive LOTR style plot, and by not trying they don't wind up like every other "epic" RPG and only succeed in sounding like this:

youtube.com/watch?v=JC3y0eDEN1A

Would you guys like it if the new painted world was small peaceful foresty pvp spot filled with peaceful non speaking npcs?

Gwyn and the Nameless King are clearly hollow when you encounter them. So is Vendrick.

the ring city has to contain more info about the serpents, given that they had statues in lothric castle but no further info was provided

I think its likely they have some ties to Earthen Peak, as well. Why else would they bring back that irrelevant zone? Maybe some kind of serpent / Mythra connection? Who knows.

gwyn was just a human with the power of the first flame, idiot.

Earthen Peak is brought back mostly because of how the Dreg Heap is an amalgamation of civilizations across time. Not the best excuse but oh well.

Not him and im not sure what creature Gwyn is, but he is definitely not human.
He was one of the four creatures that go souls from the first flame.
Him, Nito, The Witch and Pygmy.

After they won the war against the dragons Pygmy fucked off and created the humans.

>They don't try to pull some massive LOTR style plot

The vast bulk of the book trilogy's prose is describing the environment and the characters, the storytelling is very matter-of-fact.

I guarantee you people are hyping themselves up for nothing if they expect this to be the best dark souls dlc or answers to shit.

The Giants/Gods are different from puny humans. Only humans carry pieces of the dark soul while those guys have actual big souls.

agreed

But one of the bosses is called Snake Soul.

I'm fairly certain that since we are discovering "terrible truths" per interviews, and since the serpents were shown near lothric castle, we will get more info

I also heard a rumor on i think /vg/ that the DS1 firelink shrine will make an appearance and we fight bat boss down Frampt's hole

This is the LAST PIECE of dark souls content probably in years. We will get some answers, I think.

gods are just humans with the first flame that makes them bighueg.

I only explained why Earthen Peak was back.

Vendrick was human IIRC, so it makes sense.
But i thought only humans could go hollow.
It is implied that Gwyn went insane, but that doesnt have to mean he went hollow.

Maybe it was all that pressure of the world ending + your family being a trainwreck + all those years of isolation in the Kiln.
Gwyn had a hard life.

your only setting yourself up for pain user.

One of the gods created the humans.
It was never explained what race Gwyn and the other are, but they're not giants either.

>takes 1 paragraph to say they arrived at Bree
>takes 3 pages to talk about the wood of Bree's main gate and how Sam's nose itched
No one has ever tried to actually emulate Tolkien's setting, just his writing.

He literally brought most if not all of all his problem onto himself.

Gwyn was a special type of fucked because his soul was practically burnt and deteriorated by the First Flame.

The lock was put in place so Frampt could bullshit you to go get the lord souls, which would make your soul really strong so when you linked the fire it would last for a longer time.

Both he and NK have a hollow appearance. They resemble giant hollows.

The first flame "burnt out" Gwyn. So he's either hollow or as close to hollow as he can get. When you encounter him he's essentially a zombie in extreme pain from having been on fire non stop for thousands of years.

The Serpents are all part of one being that has been manipulating everything. "Snake Soul" is that being.

You are deluding yourself if you think otherwise.

>One of the gods created the humans.
source?

They want to spread the abyss to consume the world.
Nito, Gwyn, and the witch of Izalith all combated the spread of the abyss and regardless of which ending you pick, the lord souls (except the dark soul) are all out of play.

Nameless is the least messed up individual from the Age of the Gods, might be more of an age thing than actually going hollow. He seems very sane since he actually mourned his Storm Drake.

I think he's referring to the Pygmy who was the origin of all humans. Not like an actual god but one of the first four founders.

>Pygmy created the humans
user, Everyone was a Pygmy (aka hollow) before they got a soul from the first flame.

You encounter people with a hollowed appearance still capable of thinking, they're just getting close. NK was old. Really old. He switched sides during the war of dragons.

He may have been on the verge of being hollow but I find it strange that his age would show in the exact same way humans hollow.

...

>Both he and NK have a hollow appearance
Maybe because they were burned alive is that huge explosion that happens when the fire is lunked?

I dont remember the exact item that had that piece of lore, but go play the first game again. Or watch some vaati

So was Gwyn hollow? Can gods even hollow?

"Snake Soul" is the final boss of dark souls, i expect it to be serpent related.

>It is implied that Gwyn went insane, but that doesnt have to mean he went hollow
He looks like beef jerky when you see him.
Anyone with a soul hollows when they lose their soul. Doesn't matter if they are gods, humans, giants whatever.

Gwyn was seriously deteriorated from being constantly lit on fire.

"god"

they're just something between a giant and a human

Gwyn was hollow, we know this because his first born son became hollow aswell, and he wasnt lighting himself on fire

No, user. Only Gwyn, Nito, The Witch and Pygmy got souls.

Gwyn shared his with pretty much everyone and created an army.

The Witch shared it with her daughters and they created Pyromacy

Pygmy was weak as fuck because he had the original Dark Soul and he split it into multiple beings. Those were the humans

Nito im not so sure, i think he never gave a fuck about anything and just wanted to chill out with his skeleton bros.

wtf do you mean we never got an answer? Vaati answered this shit a long time ago. He's a lore god.

How did Gwyn's son go hollow? I mean he was chilling out with his dragon bros, it's not like he ever strayed away from that, why hollow out?

Fuck off Vaati, you stopped being (((((our guy)))) when you got Reddit to do all your work for you.

Honestly I trust Marcus over Vaati, if only because sometimes Marcus will just say "I dunno lol"

>Pyromacy
That was created with the chaos flame. Before that, the Witch had fire sorcery.

I'm not saying that everyone got a unique soul from the first flame. Only the four did, but everyone was a hollow till they got a portion of one of those souls.

Gods as in japanese kind of gods that can inhabit a little shrine in a roadside, not as in gods like the christian/jewish/muslim god that can make and undo at will.

the fire faded, or something. that was what gwyndolin was afraid of

>He's a lore god.
He's not. He just repackages general/simple lore theories from reddit. Nothing he does is original on his part.

Or you know, basically any pantheon that isn't monotheistic. They all had gods for the most meaningless shit.

No his first son, the Nameless King.

Chaos flame was created when they tried to use pyromancy to link the flame and it backfired, the original witches used pyromancy fine prior to that.

No

>Catalyst of the Witch of Izalith of long ago,
when her daughters were still flame witches,
before they were engulfed by the Chaos Flame.
>Before the birth of pyromancy, their wands
were mediums for sorcery, but knowledge of
this flame sorcery has long since vanished.

There's a difference between pyromancy and chaos pyromancy yo, chaos pyromancy didn't start until they created the bed of chaos.

Why didnt the other Lords of Cinder went hollow?
Or are they hollow and thats why you have to hunt them down?
But how can they be hollow when they have their own souls?
But how can they have their own souls if they all linked the fire themselves at some point?
And how come they can just ressurrect people like that? Since when can they do it?
And why those five specific Lords?

That nigga went hollow. Probably knew it would happen so he locked the door behind him and made sure you had to be incredibly powerful to open it again. That way the next guy who came to link the flame would have enough fuel for it to be effective.

They can't go hollow, they ain't human anymore, they're just reanimated ash

I'm guessing that only humans can hollow via the undead curse. Because Gwyn is clearly hollow when you fight him.

I don't think Gwyn was supposed to be Hollow. He is supposed to be heavily burned, to the point where he's probably insane and not very intelligent. Which isn't much different from Hollow.

To Hollow you need the Dark Sign, which prevents the unnatural death, and reverts you back to the natural state of being an eternal being. So far Lords have not been shown to ever get Dark Signs. Humans and Lords just die when killed. it's only those with the Dark Sign, who become undead. The Dark Sign spreads when the Flame gets weak.

>why he sealed the door with a lock that would only open after you killed all his friends

You need the Lord Souls so that your soul can be strong enough fuel for the fire. Any random asshole could come in and light the flame, and it'd burn for like a second before going out. Only a Lord Soul can power it for a sufficient time. So you gather the Lord Souls and go in.

I get what your saying and your not technically wrong, but the first game has always called the "original" pyromacy as fire sorcery.

>Demon catalyst formed from Izalith molten
rock. Can be used as fire weapon.
>The Demon Firesage was the first demon, and the last master of the original fire
arts before the Witch of Izalith was
engulfed by Chaos, creating pyromancy.

>But how can they have their own souls if they all linked the fire themselves at some point?
Their is still something left of the Lords of Cinder to burn.
Not that it works mind you. Compare the firelinking in 1 to 3.

>And why those five specific Lords?
They are the most recent ones to link the flame.

The lords of cinder are ashen, like the player.

But what is the Profane Flame?

And since the Deep Gem denotes it's dark element, is the Age of Deep Waters/Sea just another fancy term for dark?

You do realize From puts together the gameplay with the coolest heavy metal aesthetic they can think of, then loosely cobbles together something like a story around it, right?

>To Hollow you need the Dark Sign
No, you just need to lose your soul to go hollow. Dark Sign isn't a part of the hollowing process.

IIRC, the Darksign denotes the Undead Curse.

>why he sealed the door with a lock that would only open after you killed all his friends

Probably because the Witches accidentally turned into monsters and created an army of demons when they tried to link the fire themselves and failed, so just to be safe Gwyn decided to lock himself in there.

Keep in mind that he was the first lord of cinder, so no one had any idea of how the whole "linking" thing worked yet.

If you pefer memes over lore then you are an underage piece of shit.

Please die

You need to lose purpose, not your soul.
Every time you die in the game you lose your souls, but you never go hollow.

Dark Sign is part of the "curse". The curse is actually you just reverting to the natural state of living beings, which are hollows.

kaathe and frampt are Jörmungandr

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jörmungandr

dark souls lore is basically a chunnibuyo version of norse mythology written from the perspective of a japanese person who doesn't completely understand the original meaning.

Why do you need one? The story is literally just a vessel for the gameplay that you can look into as little or as much as you want.

>But what is the Profane Flame?
Its, more or less, an abyssal flame.
Unlike a pure abyssal flame, its not black.

>And since the Deep Gem denotes it's dark element, is the Age of Deep Waters/Sea just another fancy term for dark?
Humanity/Dark Souls are heavy. They have a weight to them. And when you die an fail to pick up your humanity from your bloodstain, that humanity sinks.
It falls and falls until it can sink no more.
The deep is basically what you get if you throw a rock into your bathtub. The water level rises because it is being displaced by the weight of the rock. Only, replace the rock with humanity.

Last night I am cia this kills the crab your sister?

>Hey, it's ya boy "White black guy" coming at ya with ANOTHER rant about internet comments!

>You need to lose purpose, not your soul.
You still look like beef jerky after you die.
Thats the physical part of hollowing, what your talking about is the mental aspect.
