It was all a simulation? I thought it was just set up to look like the events of mgs1 but it was all still real and deadly?

"Laugh, and grow fat!" is a completely legitimate philosophy. Fatman wasn't interested in either saving the world or destroying it, he simply wanted to be recognised for his artistry, technical skill and intelligence. Yes he rigged the Big Shell to blow but he knew it was just a cover and that no real damage would be done to the environment or human life. And arguably Stillman killed himself by triggering the proximity bomb and being a fraud and lesser artist. Fatman never put Raiden in an impossible situation and always gave him clues to help him defuse the bombs.

and also, since solidus, ocelot, liquid, and big boss were all working to overthrow the patriots, doesn't this mean solid snake and raiden have consistently been the villains of the story every time they appear?

Ocelot was receiving hypnotherapy to become liquid in mind to trick the Patriots, and by mgs2 the Patriots had so much control that destroying them would have sent the world into chaos.

Its not that simple.
They wanted to take out the patriots, but it was mostly for the wrong reasons and they were ready to do anything to accomplish that, including nuking big cities.

They are bad guys with an understandable motive, but they got that ends justifies means approach which isnt cool.

It makes me mad just thinking about it. O honestly can't stand playing any metal gear game (yes including revengeance) before V on anything but the easiest difficulty because the zany story is great and has great characters but the gameplay is so pedantic and awful. Peace Walker gave me the least issue, and MGS2 was the worst. That game is like chewing on fucking glass I swear

Nah I almost prefer Raiden to Snake. They're both assholes, though. The actual game and the boss fights are very not fun though

I don't really disagree because I only played them recently when that collectors edition came out. I liked 4 the best because it was the least dated.

and for me that was the problem, I could absolutely appreciate them through the lens of remembering what years they came out, and had I played them I would have been blown away at the time. but they don't stand up to the test of time gameplay wise

if I didn't play them then when I complained about their gameplay being shit people would just say I didn't give them a chance :^(

In MGS2 specifically? Awful camera, really aggravating "stealth", near impossible to line up shots on the bosses.
Actually I think I know why I hate MGS2 so much, I played the Vita version, and I played MGS3 first. So maybe it's just in the light of that that my experience was sullied, but I remember constantly fucking struggling to do anything

so you're admitting to being a pleb? because it really is not a hard game by any metric. dark souls is punishing to newcomers who don't understand the mechanics or know the enemy placements, but the metal gear games are very accessible as long as you listen to what the game is telling you and pay attention.

People pretend to like dark souls because it's intentionally obtuse and unfair. The first 3 MGS games are obtuse and unfair because they're old. MGS' story is hilarious, but having to struggle through the nonsense gameplay makes it barely worth it

To be fair, dark souls games have pretty interesting stories and really good atmosphere
They're loaded with cheap tricks and high damage so I can see how a dicklicker like yourself would have a bad time

To be honest they originally wanted him to be possessed by Liquid because they realized they killed Liquid off too early, then later Kojima realized that it wasnt believable enough and went the psychotherapy route instead in 4.
