What went wrong?
What went wrong?
cg in 2001
Sakaguchi
>Called Final Fantasy
>Has nothing about Final Fantasy in it
The film is unironically better than the entire franchise
But the film scared away people that thought they needed to know about the games
And the braindead FF fans didn't like it either
>shit game
>shit movie
figures
but muh huge swords and shit
Pretty much everything
1. video game movie (even though its not)
2. uncanny valley
3. wonky "deep" plot
Same thing about this shit movie.
>but muh huge swords and shit
are you sure we're talking about the same movie?
That's not advent children user
I liked it when it came out, and I still like it today.
>muh huge swords and shit
>Final fantasy the spirits within
They shouldn't have slapped the final fantasy title on it.
It's bad and if you expect it to be anything like final fantasy then it's utter shit
But huge swords has nothing to do with it, did you even (attempt) watching it?
I want a game based in this universe.
The art style of this movie was great, especially the Phantoms.
Shame about the story being garbage.
Believe it or not, its actually the highest rated Video Game movie. It has a score of like 5.2/10 which is the highest amongst Video Game movies.
And that's probably because it has nothing to do with any of the final fantasy games, it only shares the title
Well, it managed to not fuck the story of any of the games, that alone is more than any other videogame movie was ever capable of
i liked it
Vidya game producer want to ditect a bloody movie, FF7's success make Gooch over confident and overestimate himself.
What went so right
Honestly I don't know why people rail on the movie so much. It's not "Final Fantasy"ish, it's more like a sci-fi flick in the end.
But this movie is just an average movie, and it's boring for some people I guess. At least there are no stand-out cringeworthy moments or facepalm moments, and the voice acting is pretty decent.
If you as me, it's a pretty decent attempt at a movie for a first timer like Sakaguchi. Especially a fully animated movie and all it turned out to be was an average movie (personally I really don't think it's that bad), at least it's not a complete shit show like other video game movies.
I will always enjoy the movie for the Phantoms alone.
Even with the justification that FF titles are only thematically connected with each other, that isn't gonna convice people to see a movie that isn't directly based on the recent and popular games they've been playing and talking about.
Basically, everyone wanted Advent Children.
that movie was terrible
LOL
>it's not directly spelled out therefore nothing's in
Nigger, this movie has so much fucking references.
If it was named SPIRITS WITHIN : FINAL FANTASY.
Well things would be different. lol.
you wanna fight bitch tits?
Hairy vagoos
such as?
People expected spiky-haired characters, giant swords and summons. They received the same themes of 7 and 9 but in a new world, and complained
spriits witihn > kingsglaive >advent kids
Shit movie, main characters look like anime but the rest look very realistic like what the fuck?
I think this is EXACTLY what will happen if Kojima directed a real movie.
Since there will be no fun gameplay factors to support the story, the film alone will be judged and merited. I think Kojima is fully aware of this fact and avoided directing any full on animated features.
>spriits witihn > kingsglaive >advent kids
You sure you don't wanna dai ? gai jin ?
Nah, i like your grading.
>if Kojima directed a real movie.
It'll be like authentic slave "stalker" movie but with more long life talking and camera pans and 100x glare compared to what JoJo Abrahams can shit out.
*crickets*
Like FFXV never explains than was happening.
I found Kingsglaive to not only be a really good video game movie, but just be really fucking good as a movie in itself.
It has neat characters, a good story, and great setup for XV. I even cried at this movie.
Not to mention the scene where Nyx puts on the ring and completely fucks the gods, and they give him crazy power then, was super awesome.
Even before I knew what Final Fantasy was, I felt incredibly cheated out of my 2 hours after watching this movie the first time round.
Silent Hill and Ace Attorney are far better
T-t-them graphics though
He wasn't born yet when Spirits within came out
Fuck that movie. The best characters died off camera
Well, Square thought they were making a wise decision by investing ALL of their money into trying to advance CGI technology. CGI shit wasn't very big thing yet--mostly because it didn't look good yet. The Lucas Ranch was probably the forefront of it because there wasn't anybody else trying aside for some video game devs struggling to make vidya look good instead of filming FMV cutscenes that stuck out like sore thumbs.
Hey, really, that might have been some sort of tipping point where the video game industry decided it wanted to make "movie games" and the seed was planted.
But anyway FF fanboys were hot off of FF7; everyone expected, basically, Final Fantasy 7 the movie. Instead we get some japanesey nonsense sci-fi movie about alien ghosts coming out of meteors and somehow the japanese girl pacifies them by doing a japanese exorcism dance involving Crystals or something? I honestly don't even recall. When Final Fantasy Advent Children came out the fanbois finally got what they wanted...movie sucked, but only because once again the story was shitty. >hay guiz Sephiroth isn't REALLY ded, and now Cloud is an angsty queer when he ended FF7 as an upbeat, self-confident, goofball who became an unvirgin with Tifa (in front of EVERYONE)
great movie, but too deep for its audience.
There are even some idiots in this thread that don't understand how it's linked to the games, 15 years later.
