Ok, I just bought the Humble Monthly for the first time because I was interested in this game since its release. I have never played a Total War game. Any tips?
Also Total War: Warhammer thread, talk about whatever

don't buy the dlc. look up creamapi on google and get that shit for free. fuck sega and their retarded dlc policy
fun game but i don;t have ssd and loading times are pain in my ass
Summon the elector counts.
Vampires best race skellies 4 lyfe.
>look up creamapi on google and get that shit for free
Well why not just pirate the full game?
Also I'm starting to get really annoyed with the Total War series, every subsequent game has even more jewery in regards to the DLC policy. TW: Warhammer is the worst yet, you only got 4 factions at launch and had to preorder to get 5.
You have to be retarded to do this on your main Steam account. Sooner or later, Valve will fuck you up.
dude it's how Games Workshop function.
>Any tips?
Don't judge the rest of TW based on that trash
As I said, it gets worse with every Total War release. Really can't blame Games Workshop for this one
As it's your first Total War game, go with the Dwarfs first. They have the best starting position and an army of quarrellers and dwarf warriors can beat almost any greenskin army.
Surely this is going to get you banned somewhere down the line when they get round to it
>Well why not just pirate the full game?
Good luck with that.
>Any tips?
Yea, don't play until Tuesday.
They are updating the game to the Old World Edition and releasing Bretonnia for free along with Isabella.
The new patches never work with old game files, so there is no point in starting a brand new campaign today/tomorrow and then not being able to go back to it once the patch rolls out.
You should've researched your purchase a bit more and waited a few days.
Not likely kiddos, /gsg/ have pirated paradox dlc since forever and no issues there
I wouldn't mind that much if they still made complete editions. Factions in Warhammer are at least different so you're not just playing four races with just a different skin. I don't know why they're presenting factions the way they are instead of subsections for legendary lords, though. It's just a lot clutter.
They really need to update that UI because it just gets worse the more factions they add.
It should be Choose Main Faction -> Choose Sub Faction like they did with several of the older games instead of just dumping everything on one screen.
Because it makes it look like there's more choice than there really is
>base game for $12
so it's basically a steal even if you don't plan to buy any dlc ever?
Unlike most other games, there are two "health bars"; Green health and morale/leadership.
When leadership hits 0, the unit is effectively dead, running away and doing no fighting, and getting afraid again should it re-enter battle.
Leadership is decreased by all the "real life" aspects of war such as being flanked, watch their commander die or flee, not having their asses covered, being exhausted, being badly injured, having a big fucking scary monster jump on top of you etc.
I'm more annoyed by those shitty movies that don't even loop properly. Why they didn't just go with idle leaders in their other recent games is beyond me.
>(((buying the dlc)))
Just pirate (the dlc) my man. It will all work perfectly with your bought and payed for main game. effectively £100 worth of game for £12.
>I want an easy game.
Play the Vampire Counts or Wood Elves (if you buy them, they are insultingly easy to play and in every game the AI tends to dominate as them).
>I want a funny game.
Greenskins. Wuurzag is pretty funny, but his bonuses aren't great and Savage Orcs aren't easy because you have to micro-manage them well to make them work. Play Grimgor, he is a hog in melee and is still a funny git.
>I want an unpredictable game.
Seeing as how you're new, every game will be unpredictable. After you get a campaign under your belt, play Empire. Their campaign is always completely random and there generally is no meta. Sometimes the Wood Elves turn hostile early, others they are bros... For a while at least.
>What DLC should I buy?
Play every campaign first, and then look into DLC. Call of the Beastmen is my favorite because Minotaurs and Ghorebulls are so much fun. Elves are meh, I didn't like them much because of how easy they were. DO NOT GET Warriors of Chaos, they are really boring. They look cool, but they are fucking boring trust me on that.
>Tips for a newfag
Magic generally isn't good enough to win a game, look at it as a way to boost your boys and not an end all be all. Don't trust the AI. Don't trust any Wood Elves. Learn some hotkeys, it speeds up the game by about 100%. Learn to hammer and anvil because as a newfag that'll be your main tool until you learn more advanced strategy. Remember not to focus too much on any one thing in a battle.
Yes. The base 4 factions will last you about 100 hours of playtime and more.
Question about humble monthly
Do I get the rest of the pack at the end of the month even if I don't buy the next month?
Also the next billing date says 31st of March so I assume I don't get shit until then either.
You get the rest of the pack when it's revealed. It's part of this month's bundle so even if you cancel after the month you still get it.
The next billing date is for next month's bundle.
Yes. The moment you make payment for that month you're guaranteed spotlighted game + whatever other games they'll hand out for the month. If in doubt just remove your credit card info so sub can't be automatically renewed.
>msrp $100 is now crossed
uuhh, guys. does that mean all other games will be shit because warhammer is expensive?
Alright, thanks
you get the highlighted game instantly. you can unsubscribe immediately if you dont want to subscribe for another month. also if you are first time subscriber it give sme 5 dolars for the spend when you use my referral link
Is there a mod that lets me rape my way across the countryside as an endless horde of Beastmen?
They probably ran out of keys so if you subscribe now you only get the leftovers. They've been pulling shit like that a lot lately.
it just a way to emphasize the actual price, but yes, the rest of the games will be shit
>chaos
>has the best looking and strongest infantry
>has the best looking cavalry
>has fucking dragon ogres and chaos giants
>has the best artillery in the game that literally melts unit formations
>has a unique Dragon Ogre Shaggoth Lord - Kholek, who is a fucking blast to play as
>has fucking flying chimeras and 4 (four) fucking types of monstrous infantry
>campaign does not rely on building shit and holding territory, but just running around the map and burning random shit to the ground
>boring
Nigga, you must be out of your fucking mind.
I don't know. Even other months that had meaty incentive games still didn't fuck over people on other games, but I guess that depends on your preferences. Someone's great deal is another's trash.
He probably only played the early game of their campaign, which is pretty tedious and not as fun since you don't get the cool shit until later on.
Don't start the game as dwarfs, they're slow as fuck so you'll get flanked to hell and back, everyone says their easy to play but they're pretty boring
Vampire counts and Empire are friendlier factions for a beginner
Honestly, yeah.
I've got 122 hours in Warhammer. The DLC is entirely unnecessary and most of them feel half-baked. The base game alone would probably give you 100 hours if you replay as different leaders. The only DLC I ever say is a must is Grim & Grave and The King & The Warlord because they add units to already great, fun factions and on top of that The Kind & The Warlord will give you Skarsnik who is probably the coolest leader in the game. G&G will give you Vlad Von Carstein who is cool, too.
I want to re-emphasize that none of the DLC is necessary, and most of it is just flat out bad. Beastmen are fun, but very overpriced. If you really love the game you'll end up getting all the DLC anyway desu. And to be fair to CA, they do give out free DLC too. In fact, Bretonnia is getting added on the 28th for free.
When the fuck should no be charging? Of I charge from the start of the match my guys are tired as fuck. If I walk a good distance I have skirmishers and artillery Fucking me. I've tried even standing still and letting them come to me, and they just Fucking sit there
>G&G will give you Vlad Von Carstein who is cool, too.
Vlad is free, G&G gives Helman Ghorst for vampires
You forgot to mention the part where you sit around for the first 80 turns doing nothing until you get all of that. If you play multiplayer Chaos are a must have, but singleplayer they aren't worth it at all.
What fraction are you using?
>Helman Ghorst
Oh, right you are. I sometimes forget Ghorst is even in the game since I haven't done a Vamp campaign since launch and everyone in multiplayer takes Vlad or Mannfred.
Don't "steal" the DLC. YOU will get your account banned.
There are valve shills in every thread who try to sell you ceamapi. Its a known trap.
>they are updating the game to the old world edition
What does this mean? Not into whfb lore
Or is it just a goty edition repack?
Grennskins currently
The AI will not attack you and will play defensively, if you do not have a ranged unit and/or artillery advantage.
Never run in combat unless you're charging at enemy units or need to take vital positions or reposition units quickly.
The best counter against skirmishers are your ranged units. They have more range than any mounted skirmishers and even shitty crossbowmen will annihilate any shooty cavalry every time.
The best counter against artillery is either or your own artillery, or a decisive attack on the enemy positions right from the start of combat where you send 1-2 cavalry units to destroy the artillery once your and enemy infantry lines collide.
>You forgot to mention the part where you sit around for the first 80 turns
M8, you spend the first 100 or so turns just uniting the shitty Norsca tribes into one big rapemachine and this can be done even with the shittiest of units. You're going to have shitloads of action as Chaos right from the start.
>goty edition repack
Kinda, minus the DLC?
It is more like the Total War: Rome 2 Emperor Augustus Edition.
It is like a re-release with some added free content presumably done to reset the steam review scores.
Hammer and Anvil. Use skirmishes to pull enemy apart. Keep units that break easily at the back and put your meat shields at the front.
>What does this mean? Not into whfb lore
For current owner? They're getting Bretonnia for free.
For new people? They can buy the Old World Edition... which comes with base game and Bretonnia and other free DLC released so far.
>What’s in the Total War: WARHAMMER – Old World Edition?
>It is the original game, plus the Bretonnia Race Pack and an exclusive novella, ‘The Prince of Altdorf’ by Total War Writer Andy Hall.
Are you playing as Grimgor? Because you should be, he is the toughest legendary lord in the game in melee.
First of all, don't run your boyz until you need to. Second of all, you should have Doom Divers as Grimgor, and the AI immediately charges if you have artillery and they do not. By hovering your cursor over the AI's artillery, you can see their cone of fire. Only run your boyz when they are in firing range. Use cavalry to get behind enemy lines and kill their artillery. Focus your artillery on big blobs, because projectiles love shooting at blobs. Your Black Orcs will shit on anything, don't be afraid to get them dirty. The same goes for Grimgor.
Use wolf riders to harrass the flanks and/or do hit and runs at unprotected ranged units. Walk up to the fight until you're within skirmish distance, then run and charge to minimize damage from arrows and shit.
It helps to have some low-value Boyz in front of your army so they can soak up artillery hits and make sure your high-value units get into melee safely.
>For new people? They can buy the Old World Edition... which comes with base game and Bretonnia and other free DLC released so far.
I have no idea who would even do that with this Monthly deal.
Don't put globins in the front line unless you like to see your army morale drop like a rock and chain breaking.
Is the unit formations mod any good?
Or does the ai shit itself and can't use them?
That's why I said Boyz and not Gobbos.
So once I get CreamApi where do I download my DLCs from?
Paradox isn't Sega though.
AI can't use them.
This, I also just bought the game and would like to know.
How do you guys deal with the chaos invasion as vampire counts?
You can't ally humies or dwarfs yet they can't deal with the invasion themselves so I'm left to deal with 4-5 doomstacks by myself
If you use creamAPI you're a fucking retard.
Not because you'll get banned, you won't, but because of how ridiculously stupid downloading random software off russian cracking forums is
Follow the instructions on the CreamApi website?
Don't get it, you're setting yourself up for a ban. I don't care how many people say they've never been caught, you need to understand you're risking every game on your account to save yourself a little bit of cash on DLCs. Just don't get the DLC or wait for a sale. Hell, if you don't have much on your steam and you don't care if you lose it have at it just don't come back here complaining when you get caught.
Yeah, they're even greedier.
Steam is Valve in any case.
Playing TWWH really put me in the mood for other fantasy stuff in general. Shame Blood Bowl 2 is kinda inactive.
Just says
>Download and extract the DLC you want
Doesn't say from where
>yet they can't deal with the invasion themselves
...Why not? Vampires are easy peesy, by the time Chaos comes you should have like 5 doomstacks yourself.
>they can't deal with the invasion themselves
They can. Easily.
But if you can't handle it for some reason, simply don't expand north until Chaos is wrecked. Nine out of ten times Chaos will burn itself out entirely fighting the Empire as long as it doesn't have a good reason to come after you, and you can just mop up the remains of both Chaos and the Empire in the aftermath.
We should start a Sup Forums Blood Bowl league or something.
Did you read the post on cs rin ru?
Best beginner race?
Yes, that is a quote from the website
>Playing TWWH really put me in the mood for other fantasy stuff in general.
This. I've already bought Mordheim after playing TWWH and planning on buying Vermintide too.
Not him but the early game is a lot more interesting than late game as Chaos. You're living on the run, struggling to survive one more turn against the turn one full stacks of Norscans and scrapping for food like a mad dog. Mid game is the best where you're starting to get your best units and going on a tear through Kislev. Late game is boring as shit, your armies are so strong they're untouchable and it just becomes a massive slog. Every settlement has max level walls and the armies never leave them, so field battles virtually vanish from the game altogether and the AI just can't beat or deal with Hellcannons at all. There's no excitement or tension, you're just knocking over houses made of toothpicks over ad nauseum.
Empire
This is wrong, Dwarves are ten times harder to start with than empire.
Dwarves. Don't listen to the contrarians, they are unarguably the best starting race because of their ridiculous diamond mine income and solid starting units.
Are you sure cause I am looking at the post and it explains pretty well how to use it.
give me a throwaway email and I'll send you a link
That'd be fun but i wonder if we'd get any sign-ups. Think i've seen like one thread in total on Sup Forums about it.
Haven't tried Mordheim yet but Vermintide is pretty fun.
It explains where to download the DLC from? I genuinely cannot see this
[email protected]
Thanks
You run it.
It tricks your steam into trick you have the DLCs.
It downloads the DLC from steam for you.
...
>turtle up with a strong income and strong base troops tier
Dwarves
>be unassailable because of your corrupted homelands tier
Vampire Counts
>trial by fire tier
Empire
>BADLANDSBOWL tier
Greenskins
Let me know if you got it.
Thanks guys
Well, there's Mark of Chaos. Which is a kinda mediocre RTS crossed with Total War. Still pretty impressive visually, though. Get the expansion as well.
Turtle play style will suit a newfag well, so I suggest dorfs. Don't play Empire, they can be chaotic or they can be really, really easy. It is the most RNG dependent campaign in the game.
>Seeing as how you're new, every game will be unpredictable. After you get a campaign under your belt, play Empire. Their campaign is always completely random and there generally is no meta. Sometimes the Wood Elves turn hostile early, others they are bros... For a while at least.
This is why I like the Empire. Batshit AI leads to some stranger scenarios for you to deal with, especially as more and more factions get added.
>one wall seiges
>i-it's just like the table top
>the AI can work better
>one wall is epic :D:D:D
These are reasons sega cucks actually give. 12 bucks because it's a turd of a game.
I played as Kemmler and the Dwarves already attacked my fortress after turn 1.
I agree, I love the Empire. But they are the most """normal""" difficulty faction in the game. I remember I picked them for my first normal campaign and I wound up getting rolled from all directions by like turn 20.
I had someone tell me in one of these shill threads that one wall is infinitely times better because artillery is always in range or some nonsense. It had to be CA I was talking to because one wall is a pretty indefensible way of saying, we're too stupid to make competent AI.
It makes the sieges in other games look like masterpieces. This game is all flash and no substance.
>last TW I played was Shogun 2
>Shogun 2 had a full multiplayer experience
>MP world map
>customise your general, banner, colour, talents
>persistent veterans
>you could setup your army BEFORE you found a game
>could build a 5/10/14k army
>the persistent progression added an entire other level to an already amazing game
>everyone took from the same unit pool so it was very well balanced
>swords beat spears, spears beat cav, cav beat bows, bows beat blobs
>start small with ashigaru and work your way up to samurai so there was a clear progression and you knew why a unit was better
>easy to read UI and unit cards
>get TW:W
>there's the barest of bones MP
>DLC is 14.99 for one race
>you can't build your army before you find a game
>click quick battle
>puts you into a 10k lobby
>you have a minute to figure out what the fuck you're doing

>have no idea what beats what
>unit cards and stats feel needlessly complicated compared to previous games
>have no idea why I lose games
>have no idea why I win games
help
>>you can't build your army before you find a game
Last time I checked there was a "save loadout" button
I meant to say humans + dwarfs can't handle the invasion by themselves, I could but if I haven't conquered kislev when they chaos start coming they'll get into empire territory and I can't catch up to them thanks to attrition
They should up the aggressiveness of the chaos horde x10
Yeah but you have to build it when the timer is counting down while you still have no idea what the fuck is going on.
Maybe learn how the game works before jumping into MP you utter mongoloid.
