What are you talking about, Zero Mission was great
If you wanna talk about bad 2D metroid, look no further than Fusion

>fusion
im never going back

>If you wanna talk about bad 2D metroid, look no further than Fusion

Fusion was not a good metroid game

>first three weeks of AM2R
>all that discussion
>all that praise
>all that cojoined anger at nintendo axing the game
>all that OC

I even made two wallpapers during the hype. Fun times

You're right. Fusion IS a good metroid game.

It's better that it had its 15 minutes. I can always go back and enjoy it at my leisure, and Nintendo can do nothing about it.

I saved both of them. Thanks user.

ZM is better desu, the stealth section was a complete success because it contrasts with the moment when you get all the power pus and it makes you go from a piece shit who die with 1 hit to a badass who kill anything easily, that's one of the most satisfing moments in any vidya ever imo.

>Fusion was not a good metroid game

It was my GOTY for last year, it'sa damn good game.
>That torizo statue boss
>Getting the power bomb
>Genesis

Yeah it was fun, I barely remember something about the game so I supposse that it wasn't so great as I though at first after all...

I just played Super Metroid. How different is this?

I dunno, I thought that section was completely boring. You want a stealth section done right, I'd say the romhack Metroid: super Zero mission. It let Samus keep her power suit, but put her up against some seriously aggressive, and invincible, pirates.

And it didn't need any monologuing or boring crawling segments.

Yeah, I didn't like it at all. It felt really disjointed from the rest of the game. I got through it of course and it makes you appreciate the Gravity Suit so much more, but I feel they should have handled it differently.

More fluent controls and no tedious enviroments like Meridia.

I've been on this earth for 31 years and I've never given Super Metroid a proper playthrough. I'm going to play that next.

I'm still using one of your wallpapers

It's now the final piece for the trinity of essential 2d metroid games, along with Super and ZM. Fusion, and the original 2 games pale in comparison to them.

I like Maridia though

I'm using the exact same one.

>mfw a fangame blows official titles out of the water

The only glaring flaw with Zero Mission was the awful sound quality. The rest of the game was great and more or less all you could have wanted from a handheld Metroid title.

>Non-linear
>Fast paced movement
>Minimal story
>Interesting visuals
>Well hidden items
>Lots of shortcuts
>Sequence breaking
>Good soundtrack

I'll also admit the forced stealth segment towards the end was a mistake. Since there is no way around it, it's one of the least enjoyable parts to replay.
I've seen people argue that the Chozo hint statues are bad, but you're only required to interact with one at the beginning of the game, which serves the purpose of teaching you how they work. That's all. They're just there as an optional help if you need directions.
AM2R was very similar to ZM in all the good ways. Only things I can think of that really bugged me was how certain effects seemed completely out of place and lazy sprite rotations.

i just wish the guy didn't drop it entirely after it released. nintendo cant stop fangames if you release them anonymously.

the game could use more polish. flying chozo statue thing looked hella bad. also a major fuckup near the end is that he didnt finish the metroid counter rise cinema. thats the only thing gameboy version has over this.

>The only glaring flaw with Zero Mission was the awful sound quality
well I kinda didn't like the game telling me exactly where to go

I didn't download this before it got axed :( wasn't there even a .CIA version for 3ds?

Good thing it didn't.

But it did, the chozo statues told you exactly where to go

Anyone know how fog of war is now that its semi-released.

Maybe you should try reading the whole post before arguing with it.

Fusion looked great and sounded great and generally played great, but it was really hurt by the overall bland visuals, poor pacing and constant handholding.
It's also a bit of a shame that while the jumping feels a lot like Super Metroid's base speed and floatiness, there isn't any good way to speed it up. You're just always slow in Fusion.

Original Metroid 2 was better. Feeling of isolation was PERFECT in that game. Something about the movement in AM2R just feels off. I feel like I'm playing a flash game.

What controller are you using? Try calibrating the deadzones.

Hey, I also made a wallpaper during that time.
You inspired me. I still use yours in my rotation.

>wasn't there even a .CIA version for 3ds?
lol no
GameMaker doesn't even have 3DS support

>zero mission
>okay at best

I can't even get angry really, just sad that I have to accept the fact Sup Forums is full of this shit now.

Post the other one user.

>The only glaring flaw with the GBA is the awful sound quality.

Fixed that for you.

>05 Energy

It's really too bad that method to convert GBA music to high-quality MIDI samples doesn't work with the two Metroid titles. It really does wonders in transforming the soundtracks of other games into quality jams.

AM2R is the best 'nintendo' game I've played in almost 10 years.
It was a joy to 100%. Nintendo should feel shame that a small fan project was able to remake a better game than anything they've made in years.

It makes me disgusted that they felt it had to be taken down. I can only think it's because they're jealous and ashamed of how shit it makes their games look.

And, mind you, I haven't really had much positive to say about any game in a long time.

Metroid Fusion had way better sound quality though. Sounded pretty good with headphones.

Compare:

With

Comparing shit to a different kind of shit doesn't help at all.

Fusion sounds awful too, especially the soundtrack itself.

>small
it was a ten year project
that's not small

...

...

>that genesis theme song

I don't have it. Maybe the guy would made them is still aorund.

>when the space jump Torizo stage opens up and the boss starts FLYING

If this thread is still alive when I'm back home (~30 mins) and no one posts it I'll post it

I have the Night version with the logo, but not without.
But Sup Forums ain't letting me upload it.

sav'd, good shit.

>play ZM
>get a shitton of upgrades before any bossfight and have tons of energy tanks+missiles
>get to Ridley by mistake instead of fighting Kraid
FUUUCK that game was good

And I should add that I'm leaving in a few so I can't upload it offsite because I won't be around to paste the url in this thread, and it'll likely be archived by the time I get home from work.

I never noticed Samus puts the left hand on the underside of the cannon in Fusion. Does it mean something?

>THE BLAST DOORS ARE SLOWLY CLOSING

I always assumed it was due to her weakened state, but I might be wrong. It also bugged me how nonchalantly she fires her cannon in Super Metroid, unless you're aiming diagonally.

>want to replay super metroid
>remember maridia
>want to replay zero mission
>remember zero suit section

>Maridia
Did you do it without getting the Gravity Suit or something? It's not really hard at all. Once you know where to go, it's a pretty short visit. Holds some neat items too.
I'd say Wrecked Ship is worse, since the environment so heavily limits your movement.

>mfw recognizing Chykka's theme in the 1st phase
>mfw 2nd phase

That long?
Damn.

Still. For what it is, there's love in it and it shows.

>All that planned content that will never see the light of day.

it hurts

>Chykka was my favorite boss music from Echoes

I hate Torizo but that remix was really good.
