Its fun, but it now has served as the gateway for a ton of people to play Doom for the first time in a heavily modified environment causing other mods to follow brutal doom in stead of doing their own thing. And now that people expect Doom to play like Brutal Doom, some circles assume you're talking about Brutal Doom when you're just talking about... Doom.

It hasn't killed the Doom WAD scene in the same way that DOTA ruined Warcraft 3, but it definitely has wounded it.

This, it's the gateway WAD for newfags. It's why a ton of other mod authors end up including a "this doesn't work with Brutal Doom" or similar in their readme files.

It's not like that. Reddit, with the typical SJW behavior, got butthurt about him because he's edgy as fuck, included actual gore photos in his mods, also made jokes about rape or something like that.

It's an average gameplay mod whose only real claim these days is its excessive gore, and has completely spoiled a lot of new blood over the years. These days it's a lot less impressive as well.

That and SgtMark seems to improve just as well as CWC when it comes to the technical bits. Like why the fuck aren't there cvars to control toggleable elements like the Skulltag weapons, something that Term abused with Samsara many years ago?

No, it IS like that. He responds to criticism really defensively, with "oh, I'd like to see YOU do better" style narcissism.

It's why Burl Tumd exists in the first place; someone stepped up to the plate to that response.

It's the most mainstream and overrated Doom mod ever so it gathered a massive fanbase of underageb& who shit up every Doom community. They also think it's the definitive way to play the game, despite most of them never having played vanilla, and shit themselves and scream if anything is incompatible with it or someone says they don't like it.

But Brutal is more fun and interesting than vanilla...also harder. Who gives a shit?

I'm not even denying that Brutal Doom isn't a fun mod. It is fun, it just is no replacement for the vanilla game like a lot of websites were implying it did. It is not "the way Doom was meant to be played;" it's a gimmicky gameplay mod that fucks up the game's balance.
