The switch is not a fine console. Its has so many flaws and is pretty much a waste of your money if you bought one. It could turn out to be good in the future if they fix everything wrong with it. There's no reason to buy one right now.
The Wii wasn't a good console. The PS3 had nogaems for a long time. The WiiU was never going to sell well, and nothing wound up saving it. The Xbone was a hunk of shit. The PS4 had nogaems besides Bloodborne until relatively recently. I have seen Sup Forums claim all of these things, and every last one of them was correct.
Sup Forums is full of contrarians who want to shit on everything. It's really sad and pathetic.

Not a child. I have a PS3, a Wii, a PS4, and a Wii U. Still was unimpressed with the switch. I just don't see any reason to get one, even disregarding all the issues the launch consoles seem to have. I play Zelda on my Wii U. I play MK8 on my Wii U. If I wanted to play Splatoon, I would pick it up for my Wii U.
At the moment, there is no reason to pick up the Switch. Not saying there won't ever be, but now is not a good time to buy, ESPECIALLY if you already have a Wii U.

Wrong. Xbone is closing in on 30 million units sold. I have both the PS4 Pro and the Xbox One S and the latter is far superior to the PS4 in every possible way.

VC games, Xenoblade X, Zelda BotW, Smash, and MK8. Got it refurbished with 2 games for 225 a year and a half ago. Don't care about Nintendo land, and 3D World is a disappointment, plain and simple (just mentioning both games that came with the console).
Probably wouldn't have purchased it at all if it didn't allow Wii motes with Classic Pros to be used in MK8 and Smash (the main reason I got it - me and the wife have parties once every couple of weeks, and MK8 and Smash are mainstays). That said, I really enjoyed Xenoblade X and am currently enjoying Zelda.

Splatoon is pretty fun, if you can pick it up cheap go for it. Stop buying VC games though, LITERALLY just pirate the ROMs. You can even stick them on the Wii part of your Wii U if you hack it, if I recall correctly. Then you can just play them with your wiimotes.

Not him, but I'll take a stab: Most people can't tell the difference between the Pro and the regular, but people seem to be able to tell the difference between the Xbone and the S. Pro can't play 4k blu rays, But the Xbone S can. It's also really small.
I don't own either the Pro or the S. I was able to get this bad boy for 200 bucks the day after the pro launched, and that was the price point I was looking for, and the model I wanted most.

I'm not much into online shooters. I don't hate the game or anything, I just have no interest in playing it.
As it is, I'm backlogged for a while. Picked up BotW when it released, got NieR Automata Black Box in the mail Monday, and I'm sure by the time I finish both of those games (I completionist Taro games - even Drakengard 2, which was horrible and not worth it), I'm positive Persona 5 will be out. After that, I imagine Zero Dawn Horizon will be cheap enough for me to throw the cash at it.

Yeah. I think it was probably the better choice for most people when they thought about it. I mean, how many people really used the CF card reader (Memory Pro Duo and micro SD cards have USB adaptors)? And everyone knows that a good ethernet cable is better than Wifi, even if the router sat on top of the console. All I missed was the chrome stripe, really. And that DOES make the console look nicer, but isn't worth an additional 100 dollars.

There's not enough grip to use two fingers on the shoulder buttons so you alternate with your index finger and support the grip with your middle finger.
For big hitter games like Zelda or Xenoblade, I opt to just just the joycon grip.

The thing is that there is an appreciable difference between the Xbone and the Xbone S. There really isn't so much of one regarding the PS4 to Pro.
Can you tell me what those are? I'm not arguing, I'm genuinely interested to hear. And yeah, PS4 Pro isn't that big of a leap to be worth the buy if you already have a PS4, but it does run the games better and in higher resolution.

Again, you're going about it the wrong way if you are comparing the Xbox one S to the PS4 Pro. You need to compare it to the original Xbone.
Compare the Xbone S to the Xbone, and the PS4 Pro to the PS4. The pro isn't as much of an improvement, yet comes with a much heftier price tag. Essentially, if you decide to go for a PS4, there's no real reason to get the Pro version UNLESS you actively desire VR. But if you decide to go for an Xbone, there's no reason to go for the original period. The S is appreciably better than the original in every single way, all while being much more budget friendly.

Not all of the problems are widespread, but several are. The Wrist straps are a problem for "causal consumers," which are the people Nintendo was vying for. Ditto for the screen scratching. Ditto for the left joycon (which is ABSOLUTELY flawed - every breakdown video I have seen has the antenna missing from that joycon).
Those are flaws, and they are extremely relevant to people who aren't looking to pay super close attention to the console and who aren't keeping their ear to the ground for problems.
The left joycon cuts out at a shorter distance than the right, but post patch you have to be pretty far away for either to experience problems.
The other problems solved by not being retarded. Not to say the general population won't be retarded. We'll see.

I want the Switch to do well, but as of now, I don't see a reason to invest. Even if you don't own a Wii U, and REALLY want to play Zelda, I would wait for a hardware revision before buying the Switch.

If they don't like video games, why not find a hobby they enjoy? There's so many more fulfilling things they could be doing. The fact that positivity seems to be looked at as a weakness around here is one of the weirdest things I've ever seen. Being negative about everything doesn't make you some kind of mature, intelligent person like many here seem to think, it makes you a sad, depressed person. The fact people are talking about it again means Nintendo is back. All the haters just bring out more word of mouth and Nintendo earns more money than ever. Like, people are just contrarian by nature. Games as a thing is basically a luxury entertainment thing. Anyone who bought the Switch can more or less only play Zelda right now, and it happens to be one of the best games of all time and they argue like children that "it's not THAT good" or "It's great but NOT A MASTERPIECE." Children just wants attention all the time. No matter what people say, a movie like The Godfather is the greatest. Their silly arguments on the internet isn't going to convince anyone otherwise.
As someone who thinks the Switch is a poor investment, I agree with you that BotW is great. It handily beats LttP as a new high mark of the series, in my opinion.
I still think the switch is marred with issues, like missing antennas in the joycons and screen scratching. Add to this that there aren't going to be any real games beyond re-releases like Mario Kart 8 and a tweaked version of Splatoon until Xmas, and it makes sense to wait for a hardware revision, especially if you have the Wii U (and if you don't, between Zelda, Xenoblade X, and party games like Smash/MK8, it's a worthy purchase).
