So now that the dust has settled, can we all agree that Hollow Knight is one of the greatest video games of all time?

So now that the dust has settled, can we all agree that Hollow Knight is one of the greatest video games of all time?

>greatest video games of all time
No. Its nice though.
thick bug waifu is best waifu

...

If they add a hard mode and fix the bugs and performance issues I'd give it a legit 10/10. Otherwise it's a solid 9.

no

You can't give bug that kind of ass.

False champion tips? Im having a real hard time with the boss dream battles. Or is there any alternative to get the awakened dream nail?

redpill me on this game, looks like another indie 2d dark souls ripoff like salt and sanctuary

It's not anything like that

Its on igg with no DRM. Can try it yourself.

But there is a hard mode user.

I don't know what you're talking about, the game's difficulty is brutal, to me that means it's like dark souls

>it's another frame drop gets you killed episode
game can fuck off until this is fixed

Just progress further. You'll be able to fight them more easily when you get better charms/upgrade your nail.

It's fun. But now there doesn't seem to be no reason to play again...I hope the content updates will have multiple campaigns.

Wew, porn already? Well keep it coming art people.

No. There's a one life mode. It doesn't make boss fights harder it just removes the room for error.

Ive got a 6600K and a 1080 and I can't beat the hardest Colosseum challenge cause I get hitches like no ones business towards the end.

Is there no fix for this yet?

There's a Hornet campaign coming.

shadow dash behind him.

I have 3 nail upgrades, 8 life + 2 from the charm and i have the shadow dash. I know i suck but there is one thing to die at almost the end of the boss fight and there is another to get stomped really quickly

How do you want them to fix the bugs it's a game about bugs holly shit you fucking retarded.

The shadow dash feels really weird to me, i cant get the feeling of using it. I always get hit at either the end of the animation or at the start.

Removing the room for error in a game with respawns does make the game harder user.

Especially when you have to trade off dealing damage to heal.

But I get what you mean though. I dread to think what hard mode Failed Champ would be like.

Use attack speed and two range charms+quick focus. Game became easymode when I got to use this setup.

>We fixed the bugs!
>all the corpses you saw in the background are now alive
>entire hallways full of enemies

Undertale is greatest video games of all time

Can we see hornets ass?

Game seems cool and up my alley, but I will wait until anons report that framerate drops are fixed before buying.

Isn't this in Unity? Didn't know Unity had so much trouble.

>the game's difficulty is brutal
well that's simply not true..

Hollow Knight is better than Undertale
I played both

>when she writes that romance story about you sitting on the bench with her

I got 60 FPS and 100% the game with this.

Havent beat the game yet but using the igg version I get no frame drops. Though I did get a single hitch that made me fall into some water. Hasnt done it since.

There game have a very annoying micro freezes when you hit shit and especially when shit hits you. Most of my deaths in the second half of the game after I get used to controls were caused by this.

I spent 4 (four) hours on third trial. Finally made to final boss and died like a bitch. Then beat it with cheat engine. NO FUCKING REGRETS.
Fuck these freezes and that glitch that causes magician's enemy projectile to stuck for the rest of the challange.
The game is great otherwise, not perfect though.

Don't abuse the pogo jump, charge your slash while on the wall then attack and dash from one side to another.
The pogo will kill you with every frame drop.

It's not that bad, it's only awful in the coloseum.

firmly embedded in metroidvania mid tier that's for sure.

I found it unplayable, I can't stand this laggy feel in 2d action games, I really hope they fix it, it looks fun.

>better than SotN and super metroid
What's high tier then?

It's in the same tier as Super Metroid imo.

I probably like it more than SotN.

If there's one flaw that the bosses have it's that the invulnerability that you have lasts long enough (with the charm for it) that you can outDPS them if you stack health and get a nail upgrade+some damage charms.

It's not really as rewarding as getting through some of the harder precision platforming by thinking outside the box when it comes to routes you choose.

it's certainly not better than those two.

high tier: iji, la mulana, environmental station alpha, zero mission, order of ecclesia.

I really like Hollow Knight, but please don't meme too hard. It's bad for your health. I'd rate it in the great/god-tier, but not dethroning the genre definers.

How does a game like this even have framerate issues?

Janky slapped-together coding and missing issues such as monster corpses counting as entities after disappearing and being stored in the upper left of some rooms and forgetting to add a removal line for some rooms to said corpse buffer. Coupled with having too-fucking-many of them.

>monster corpses counting as entities after disappearing and being stored in the upper left of some rooms
This seems like rookie tier mistakes. All in all thought it really is a fantastic game, but like another user said earlier, I just don't feel much urge to play again beyond some of the more ridiculous completion achievements. I did clock in at about 26 hours for my first 100%, so I think I could do it in 20 or less with a little effort. But that'll have to wait until some bug fixing and maybe some content patches.

>hear so much good I have to pirate it to find out
>ok this is pretty straight forward so far
>well polished I guess
>cool music
>likable characters, how do you actually write likable characters that are bugs and just mumble
>combat is surprisingly satisfying
>I see I can attack downward on spikes to save myself cool
>holy shit I can clash swords with the other sword guy that's cool
>just by looking at the level I can recognize puzzles that need a dash or a wall jump
>actually confident in the developers because of how well made the game is so when I see bullshit I know there's something to help me get through it
>so far so easy haven't died though
>get to the pshh nothing personnel bug red cape fight
>ok now this is a real fight
>fuck gotta hit her nail to get just enough airtime to dodge it
>die once but beat her on the second try that was cool as fuck
>yup here's my dash
>mantis kingdom, shit
>mushroom jump puzzles, fuck
>goddamn ass thorns and acid water
>holy shit a giant acid spewing mushroom looking ass boss fight how do I
didn't expect the game to become actually challenging
so far GOTY for me
still need to buy it though

Indie developers are shit coders.

>blushes when you sit next to her

The best

good game, shame it will be their last

It seems these guys are an indie studio who dont have any games prior to this one. They published it themselves....soo i think they are good with the money they got from the game

>~30K owners
>~2K Backers
>28K X $15 a piece = $420000, which is 554,400 AUS
Sounds like a smash success to me considering the Kickstarter only raised $57K AUS and they did it all independently.

And people wonder why the industry is in the shitter.

The game was backed through Kickstarter my dude.

1. Steam takes at least 30% off every purchase.
2. Not everyone bought it for $15, my price for instance was 349 rur ($6)

Fair enough I suppose.
But one thing is for certain, they made back everything they spent from the Kickstarter and plenty more. And it's gonna slow-burn for a while more than likely. I'm curious to see how the Switch launch impacts them.

I guess it's really for the best she falls for Zote

>No leveling
>No RPG mechanics
>No i-frame dodge mechanic
>No parrying
>No magic systems (outside a couple pre-set attacks that you unlock)

It’s not even slightly Souls-ish. It’s much closer to Castlevania or Metroid. It’s a platformer at heart, with a lot of combat.

The only two similarities to S&S are:
>upon death, you leave a little ghost that has your money, and have to kill it to get your money back
>art style on the glyphs/sigils is similar

S&S was phenomenal anyway. Similarities would be a compliment

>a game being hard means it is like DS
I'm embarrassed to share an internet with you people.

It's true

>All those fucking plush and shit she made of you
>All replaced overnight

yeah wow, another western dark souls clone.

I hope they get enogh money, because they had deals with humble bundle and indie fund too, so what they used for development wasn't just from kickstarter.

Is it actually that good?

Looking for something to tide me over to Nier Automata.

Is it like Ori and the Blind Forest? I haven't played Metroidvanias that much...

xD

I admit, that kind of hurt.

If he jumps backward he's about to do his shockwave attack. He does this up to 3 times then leaps at you. Jump over shockwaves and dash under him. If he runs toward you he'll jump at you, dash under him. If he surprises you with a forward or neutral jump smash try to dash backwards, there is a sweetspot you can use to avoid damage sometime.

Best way to damage is charge a spin attack then hit after you dash under him. Second and third phase are easier than first imo

This can't be true

>9 days
Anyway, it's not overly comparable to Ori. Ori focuses on platforming and being more of an experience whereas Hollow Knight is more of a balanced blend of combat, platforming, and exploration. Pirate it if you don't wanna shell the cash. You got nothing to lose if you don't like it.
And if you do, you can buy it and fix the glitch relating to not being able to get the last Notch and Pale Ore.

If you beat him in the Arena, it becomes true.
If I kill a thousand more, will that be enough Father?

I'm still not playing this fucking shit until they fix the stuttering

>fighting the first boss, false knight or whatever is his name
>He does that wave attack
>press jump but it doesn't register because at the same time the frame freezes

Yeah nah, fix it first. I don't wanna see more of this bullshit.

It's much bigger game with actual bossfights, lot of exploration, backtracking, and non linear progression. It's a much better "game".

>No i-frame dodge mechanic
It's fucking stupid but you do get a somewhat shitty dodge somewhat late game depending on how you play/explore. Let me go ahead and explain why the dodge is shitty
>Is automatically used whenever you dash
>On a set timer
>No separate/dedicated button to use the dodge when you want to
>No Charms to enhance beyond making it deal damage

>No parrying
Not in the Dark Souls sense but hitting an enemy's swing will negate its damage and if you're close enough damage them
Also benches are pretty similar to bonfires, fully restore health, cause enemies to respawn, and can restore Soul with an upgrade later.
But yeah, it's very much a Metroidvania that happens to have some elements similar to Dark Souls.

it's the most heavily shilled game these past few weeks for sure, and that means something considering that both sony and nintendo had some major releases

FYI about the notch and ore
You can transfer your save from a pirated version. However, if you've already completed an arena match and go back to do it on the retail version, since the match is considered completed, it will not drop the item again despite you not having it.
tl;dr Don't do arena matches on pirated version if you're trying before buying

A friendly reminder to ignore Bait posts and anyone who replies to them. They won't go away otherwise.

>SotN
>better than hollow knight
I'm sorry do you have to play Hollow Knight a second time but upside down and with only one music track that restarts every time you enter a new screen? wait you don't? Damn.

Am I allowed to share my experiences of a game I liked in 2017 Sup Forums?

I thought it was pretty underwhelming, actually.

The aesthetics are nice, but the gameplay is crude and the bosses and puzzles/progression elements are pretty simple.

Reminded me quite a bit of that furry game with the fairy/squirrel thing. The name escapes me.

There are no puzzles in the game.

Dust?

>I'm sorry do you have to play Hollow Knight a second time but upside down
I-I actually liked this part of SotN
Hollow Knight is unironically the best metrovania I ever played though.

not if you get paid for it, shill

>the gameplay is crude
ask me how i know you didn't play the game

Dust: Elysian Tail?

take your pills

I think many of the platforming challenges could be considered puzzles themselves, on top of a few things to get certain charms.

Probably the most boring Metroidvania I've ever played and I've played a lot.

>
>Am I allowed to share my experiences of a game I liked in 2017 Sup Forums?
The first dozen threads for this game started with the price in the op with reasons to buy it. If that wasn't blatant shilling then what is

So I have the dash, walljump, super dash, double jump and acid immunity

are there other exploration items I need to get? Like how do I get past the black walls?

You can only get through black walls when you've died and your black spirit is somewhere

You have to find the King's mark first, in Kingdom's Edge.

It's confirmed? I beat game 100% and i want more

whaaaaaaaaaaa?
god damn I would have never known

You are incorrect. There are numerous very simple puzzles. The many worms you can rescue almost always require a small amount of problem solving, and that is only one example.

>he thinks hollow knight is complex

ask me how I know you are underage

technically it's grubs not worms

The constant barrage of gay imagery in this game seems excessive

I wish the game would not make me commit to some actions. Like the fact i cant dash after i heal until i wat for 2 seconds to get hit. The enemies are fast and you usually cant do a fluid dash hit or hit to dash and jump and heal

Shape of Unn can help a lot, I prefer it to Quick Focus, because the speed buff just isn't really enough to be worth it.
