Brand power

Marketing + Nintendo is an incredibly well recognized console manufacturer that everyone knows

nintendo switch has zelda

Zelda
Indies
HD Rumble
Mario
On the Go™

> switch
US being weebconquered and through this current consumers are nostalgic numales, then
> hardware fail and low quality components
are all things you realize AFTER buying it, also
> > dead pixels are not defects, no refunds

Isnt switch selling badly though?

The fact that I don't know what the fuck a shield is leads me to believe that it's likely a marketing issue user

Indies? Dreamcast has better 3rd party

Unoptomised PC games at low-mid settings

Vs

Nintendo brand games on a fixed platform

Its sold out in America which is all Sup Forums cares about, despite it being one of the smallest markets now.

Plus Nintendo are renowned for keeping stock back to create artificial high demand

If you ask the average person what NVIDIA is they'll just go "Huh?"

>despite it being one of the smallest markets now.
That would be Japan.

>Unoptomised PC games at low-mid settings
What? What are you even talking about? Crysis 3 being on the shield?

because you need GAMES, FUCKING VIDEO GAMES

HOW HARD CAN THAT BE TO UNDERSTAND

It says in your image it has 512 Giga Flops

are you surprised it failed?

They should have just made a Shield portable 2 instead of some half baked console like this. Would have done better.

anandtech.com/show/11185/nvidia-announces-jetson-tx2-parker

THANK YOU BASED NVIDIA

Asia is the region

I'm still wondering if there's mobile hardware that's more powerful than the tegra X1.

Finally. Someone gets it.

>Plus Nintendo are renowned for keeping stock back to create artificial high demand
Post proof.
Aside from amiibos and the nes mini which were both just strange phenomenons tell me what nintendo kept stock back.
>inb4 2M units aren't enough for a launch

Literally only Brand recognition. But Nintendo is capitalizing the last ounce of it. Switch flopping, Nintendo is finished as a console manufacturer. Which could be a good thing.

Lol, the classic "you have to PROVE the sky is blue and water is wet" deflection tactic.

2m units supposedly available for the ***launch period***, slowly trickled out over a couple of months to keep demand high.
If it really was that popular then they would just tool up some more production lines and increase manufacturing capacity. They could easily do that, it's not like the switch is some exotic new technology its just a repackaged Nvidia shield.

Nobody develops games for the shield specifically.

Everyone is developing Switch games on switch development kits specifically for the switch.

>Which could be a good thing.

A bless in the skies, some would say.

Nvidia tried to make some console handheld thing while ignoring that PC wasn't interested in that sort of thing. To this day I don't really even know what a Shield was, it was like a Gameboy or something, right? Not something I'd drop $500 on, in any case. I wouldn't drop $500 on a namebrand console like Sony or Nintendo either though.

I love my Shield but I've never even entertained the thought of ever using it as a console. That seems retarded.

Tablets are not consoles.

>Asking for proof is now a deflection tactic.

>slowly trickled out over a couple of months to keep demand high.
It has been released for a week, you are just throwing assumptions out of your ass.

>If it really was that popular then they would just tool up some more production lines and increase manufacturing capacity.
Who says this isn't happening?

I think the initial run is to manufacture demand AND to iron out kinks. Look at all the little faults that have popped up already. Joycon issues, dock scratching issues.

Probably the next 2 million manufactured will resolve this shit and that's the units that will be pushed out at Christmas with the new mario

>having only 20W of power
>2017
AHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAH

Uhhh... WUT? The lower the better on a portable device my friend.

You want it to have 30 minutes of battery life?

>Asking for proof is now a deflection tactic.
Asking for proof for an immediately obvious statement indeed is

Every single other hardware launch in recent history Nintendo has done this, do you seriously think they're going to suddenly change now?

The more power it has the faster it is, pleb. Powerful graphics > longer battery.

because people are literally fucking retards

Well its sold less than all competitors yet is sold out. So something doesnt add up.

>Every single other hardware launch in recent history Nintendo has done this.
Only the Wii, because it was a sudden hit.

Thats not how power and graphical power work jesus christ

Being sold out in certain places doesn't mean its sold out worldwide.

That's power as in amount of electricity it uses user lol

I got a gaming computer for christmas and it has 600W of power. No way you can play new games on 20W device.

Yes because you plug that directly into a electrical socket and it powers all your power chugging components.

A portable device runs on a single rechargable battery user and is designed to use as little power as possible. It's why the switch only has about 3-4 hours of battery life.

Are you trying to be stupid?

>gba and ds super scarce at launch in all regions, despite release being staggered 6 months apart in different regions
And once again, it's trivially easy to just tool up more production lines, look at how quickly more ps4s were available following launch despite it being the fastest selling console ever. Meanwhile the wii was still being trickled out almost a fucking year after release

>2x energy efficiency

okay fuck nintendo for not using this

People want BOTW on the go.

Actually, yes, but the other guy is such a cool guy about it that I feel bad.

Thanks

Yeah man! Why couldn't they use this? The switch would only have been $700! I'm sure everyone would have rushed out to buy it!

shield plays PC games
i have a PC already

these SoCs literally cost under 30 bucks

Apple A10 is state of the art on a state of the art node by the way

I wonder where all those unsold X1s went.

Yeah man. Why didn't NINTENDO use this chip that was literally only announced yesterday on their system that's been in development for years?

the Pascal Tegra was announced a year or two ago...

They're putting it in the switch pro

Nice shitposting technique
>Yeah man. (insert ironic comment)
Sad

Sony and Microsoft are setting the precedent for this so I totally expect this to happen.

no joke and here's what it means

>switch mode: 2x battery life

>switch pro mode: 2x graphics/fps

As someone who spends a solid 2-3 hours commuting every day, and is considering a Switch, what would you lot recommend instead for portable gaming?

Nintendo set the precedent for this with the "new" 3ds

>58.4GB/s

it's actually really frustrating that Nintendo didn't go with this

this would actually be a decent enough handheld and console

if nintendo had said something like

>just buy this one console, and you won't need to buy our home console and handheld seperately to enjoy all of our games

then yeah people would have bought it even for $700

Shield was a way to play bad ports of Xbox 360 games on the go, Switch is a way to play bigger Nintendo games on the go.
Nvidia made the right choice doing this even if they keep the shield line going since they now have the Nintendo brand to leverage them.

>then yeah people would have bought it even for $700
If you mean drones yeah. They would buy it even if it was made out of cardboard

It would have been a phenomenal handheld.
As a console I think it would probably be pretty similar to how the switch is now.
The low power mode in the specs seems to have disabled the denver cores and the A57s are running fairly similarly to the switch's so i dont think there's much room for improvement on that front.
The GPU can be clocked up in docked mode but I bet nintendo would have to keep the CPU at the same level in both modes again as they did with the current switch
It still wouldn't be able to port AAA games from PS4 and xbone but it would probably be able to play ports of anything from 7th gen, maybe even GTA 5

Nintendo games.

Here's an example of the visual difference between a game using a mixture of PS4/PS3 assets in docked and undocked mode, it runs 1080p docked but you can't get 1080p screenshots sadly, its a terrible port that could have ran much better if it wasn't rushed for launch but I still like it
They should have had no problem making it run smooth despite the hardware but this is SE/TK so I can't expect much, I mean even the fucking PS4 version of this game isn't terribly stable.

Nintendo power, better designed, a lot more portable, and one big game with games within the year.

The 1st shield was a chunky ugly rock of a portable, and the Shield TV just isn't portable, while the Switch does both things better.

>Surely, Nintendo will fail this time!

The rallying cry for fanboys since the late nineties.

They have enough money saved up to operate for years and years without turning a profit.

Really the best news this development board has given use by keeping Cortex A57s is that a shrink to 16nmFF WILL improve perf/watt.
They may have introduced other changed to the SoC, and i have no doubt the improved memory bus is contributing to the doubling of performance but at the very least a die shrunk tegra should show some gains in performance or power consumption and we're likely to see somehting like that down the line, though i bet it will be unreasonably expensive as that is the nintendo way.

Never underestimate the insanity of Nintenbros.

nah with this the console mode would have been like twice as good, like over 50% boost in GPU and 250% boost in bandwidth

(zelda runs like shit docked because lack of memory bandwidth)

it would have meant locked 1080p stable 30fps zelda at least

I just really hope Nvidia was serious about a long term relationship with Nintendo, the concept of these two getting together to make handhelds is the best news for the industry since it means we can finally get what the vita teased at, as long as devs give a shit about the ports, even crazier that Nintendo is balls deep in UE4 to the point where the might start using it for first party games. I do hope the games are more optimized than the launch games, Zelda in its current state could have pushed for 1080p docked with better AA and texture filtering and have hit a solid 30fps but I'm guessing that it was a case of them working with the Wii U build and just improving off that slightly, DQH1/2 should have been locked 30 and could have easily pushed past it if they tried, and Bomberman had no reason not to be 60fps. I think the idea of releasing a x2 switch next gen that works with all the old gear isn't a bad idea if Nintendo is going long term.
Not related to this thread but I need to know, why are console devs so against texture filtering outside of bilinear and trilinear? I has almost no performance impact

anandtech.com/show/10714/nvidia-teases-xavier-a-highperformance-arm-soc

THANK YOU BASED NVIDIA

pretty sure my smartphone is more powerful than an xbox 360
it's not really saying much

Yeah, and while twice as good is better and impressive, it's not better enough to bridge the gap between slightly better than wii u, to ps4/xbone tier.
Even a full clocked X2 probably isn't good enough in the CPU and memory departments to be comfortably be able to run current gen ports. GPU maybe, but it's easier to optimise for gpu than CPU and memory.
While I would like to see a faster switch, i would rather they left some performance back to improve battery life with the headroom this chip would have given them. I just dont see the point in going maximum performance unless it pushes you into the threshold of easy ports to bolster the game library of your new console. Go for portability instead in that situation.
Of course we dont live in an ideal world and nintendo went with a 20nm chip that is the worst of both worlds. Thanks nintendo.

I have the nvidia shield tv

runs gamecube and wii games,
plus gamestream from my pc with gtx 970

also it's my kodi machine

very nice

Well nvidia said they were going to have a great relationship with Sony when they announced the RSX for the ps3, then they kind of dicked Sony over. Hopefully the same won't happen again.

And texture filtering has a low computational cost but uses precious memory bandwidth, plus it's fairly easy to hide bad filtering with good level building.

I have a Sheild Pro in my living room, it's my Plex server connected to the NAS in my home office, and I play PSP, PS1, MAME and SNES emus on it if I want to kick back on the sofa. Great machine for all of the above, not tried any of the Shield specific PC ports though.

that's like a 20W chip

The X1 is a 15-20watt chip.

novidya rates it at 10W

as for the system draw for shield TV which I assume you are referring to -> PSU efficiency, RAM and Storage consumption, Fan consumption, HDD consumption also factor in

>One of the smallest markets.
Were the biggest market that doesn't just pirate everything (China)

Yeah it consumes less in the switch of course because it's underclocked, it's running at half speed in CPU and 70% speed in gpu while docked.
The shield TV consumes ~19watts in load.

>reading comprehension

nonexistent

>All these different countries with different cultures and currency.
>It's all the Asia market.
Thats fucking retarded.

>expensive
>gimped pc or alternatively overpowered emulation machine that could be replaced by any cheap android device

>All these different countries with different cultures and currency.
>It's all the Asia market.
Thats fucking retarded.

The burden of proof falls on the person making the claim, faggot.

This.

You know the xavier is a board right?
Most of those things are probably included in the 20watts

Ah, so that's why botw runs so well.

>I don't know how international markets work, please rape my face

And once again
>you can't """"""PROVE"""""" that water is wet
Ok bro you live in your bubble

>Xavier is a complete system-on-chip (SoC), integrating a new GPU architecture called Volta, a custom 8 core CPU architecture, and a new computer vision accelerator. The processor will deliver 20 TOPS (trillion operations per second) of performance, while consuming only 20 watts of power.

really activates my almonds

Why the OP had bad English while Sup Forums speaks it despite OP suck dick and needs to learn English?

also this SoC is actually designed for AI and cars

Shield had 0 exclusives. It was actually impossible for it to even get exclusives since it was just a handheld PC, it was limited entirely to a PC library and not even all games on PC at that.
Switch will have many exclusives from Japanese developers.

The difference is games. It's always the difference.

>criticising somebody's minor grammatical mistakes when speaking a second language
That's literally mocking somebody for being smarter than you, you're retarded

Daily reminder that both metal gear rising and resident evil 5 run like shit on nvidia shield.

The switch is literally worse than a xbox 360.

And RE5 is using mt framework so no "bad port" bullshit.

The switch fulll power is 360-ps3-wii u levek

>All of Europe has the same culture and currency
>All of America has the same culture and currency
>All of Africa has the same culture and currency
>BUT ASIA IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT AND ALL ARE UNIQUE THIS IS RETARDED

Can't tell if you're a mongoloid simpleton or a weeb. Probably both.

Oh good an argument about words.
Just what I want to do.
Do I think Xavier's TDP is higher than an X1 or X2, yeah.
All i'm saying is it's not ridiculous to think they could clock it down/disable cores and bring it down to X1 levels without devastating efficiency.
There's this whole thing too.
It's not like it's 80 watts or anything, don't get your panties in a bunch.

>despite it being one of the smallest markets now

>PS4 has sold 19.56 in the US and Canada alone
>21.76 million in all of Europe, despite having over 2x the population and Europe being Sony territory basically
>all non Sony platforms have sold more in the US than all of Europe

>But NA is one of the smallest markets
What did he mean by this?
