Part of Sup Forums seems to actually think Witcher 3 is an RPG so I think its time to discuss what actually makes up an RPG game and why fucking Witcher.3 isn't one.
Witcher 3 is not an rpg
So what is it then?
>your choices, in both stats and story, have consequences
looks like its more of an rpg than fuckin skyrim
Go play your poorly made weeb games
>Can't even choose a character
Must be one of those revolutionary new RPG's I hear about.
I agree. We really need to stop conflating action/adventure games with RPGs. 90% of the "RPGs" that come out these days aren't. Shit that has no link whatsoever to tabletop play and defining how your character fits into the game world gets a pass every time because hey there's levels and a LOT of constricting dialogue lmao.
>You need to be able to choose your character for a game to be considered an RPG.
Resident Evil 2 is an RPG then?
You don't make a claim then offer to discuss why it's true, if you claim something be ready to prove it you fucking faggot
And no I'm not an assblasted fan, W3 is trash compared to other two
>choose to back Ulfric, all the hold guards switch over, major NPCs leave various cities, etc.
>choose to back Tullius, all the hold guards switch over, major NPCs leave various cities, etc.
Seems like there were consequences.
...
Just because you can choose a character doesn't make it an RPG either.
>the only difference is the guards wear different armor sets
>the guards don't even treat you any different or say anything significantly different
Generally being able to "role play" is a decent indication of an rpg. Witcher 3 is an action-adventure game not an RPG
Who gives a shit, you call it an rpg and people will say "OH WOW I LIKE RPGS" and some neckbeards will be upset their hobby is invaded by normies.
but does any of it fucking matter? No.
I'm confused I thought it was an action rpg like bloodborne but with more casual combat mechanics and its more streamlined. Kinda like Bioware games now are streamlined as fuck.
One can't even play Dragon Age cisquisition without feeling really sorry for the years, the original team did with the OG Dragon Age.
Where did it all go wrong?
Lets define words
>rpg: games like witcher 3
Now you try!
Kill yourself mongoloid.
but you role play as a witcher
>game isn't rpg because I don't like said game
fuck off retard
>Choices matter in story
>Character building with a variety of stats
Which one makes a game an RPG now?
either one, as long as there's consequences
And all the NPCs in every town now have different dialogue and comment on the situation. Whole quests are dropped or changed. Try to keep up.
How many of these people are (You)'s?
Are they all them? Because I can just tell its the exact same fucking cunt with the shit argument over and over again.
Easy.
"Game I like" is a true RPG.
"Game I don't like" is not a real RPG, it's a genre with RPG elements.
You can say that for any game where you play as a character.
Look, unless you want to try and argue that Planetscape Torment is not an RPG, you should really drop this line of argumentation.
It's probably the same guy, Sup Forums has the greatest autists.
so the entire gothic series arent rpgs?
no because what matters is the game giving you choices, because role playing means putting yourself in someone else's shoes.
Meaning you have choices but you decide what to choose from the character's perspective, not your perspective because you roleplay as the character (in this case Geralt), you don't roleplay as yourself.
Creating your own character is fun and amazing, but it does not decide whether a game is an RPG or not
If creating your character meant the game is RPG then FIFA is an RPG too
read
>whole quests are dropped or changed
No, they aren't.
So MASS EFFECT is not an Rpg ? Or better yet if i play wiyh the default face of shepard i m not RPGING , but if i change the face oh boy such rpg
Hack and Slash with shit combat.
>you need to pick a character to roleplay as Geralt
what did he mean by this?
are you illiterate or did you just link the wrong post
I'm not saying that not being able to choose a character means that the game is definitely not an RPG(thought its one check on the list). But Witcher 3 in general doesn't feel like an RPG and having your character essentially set in stone is a factor in that.
>it's not an RPG because you can't choose your character
>what is Planescape Torment
>what is Gothic
>what is Final Fantasy
Is anyone genuinely interested in the Gwent card game they're releasing? I have a code from PAX and I'm not interested in it
what skyrim edition are you playing? i want that shit happening in my game
the combat is literally dark souls: parry, block, fast attack, heavy attack
I'm not saying that not being able to choose a character means that the game is definitely not an RPG(thought its one check on the list). But Witcher 3 in general doesn't feel like an RPG and having your character essentially set in stone is a factor in that. There are obviously other reasons Witcher 3 isn't an RPG.
But I can see why what I said about not being able to choose a character means that its not an RPG sounds retarded. Didn't mean that. My bad
you're underage and a retard
I've been playing the beta lately and it's actually really good, you should give it a try, it's like they used the original gwent as a basis and made a completely new rebalanced game
It's not an rpg because nothing has any consequence, be it on the gameplay or the story.
no u
...
Like its been said a thousand fucking times, the pointless chain that leads to Imperials versus nords chain in Skyrim was lackluster. A showdown of 10-15 versus 10-15. The fucking forsworn had a better army feel. WInning for either side changed shit. Changed a few guards and barely any dialogue. IF and fucking IF quests got changed, they changed to a different fucking placeholder NPC telling you to go fuck up a this that or the other. Most of that game was deep as a fucking puddle.
>the combat is literally dark souls: parry, block, fast attack, heavy attack
You clearly haven't played one of the two games because what you just said is probably one of the dumbest things I have ever seen on this website.
did you play the game
>role playing game
>playing the role of the Witcher geralt
>not a role playing game
Hey dumbass
card games don't really do it for me, so I'd just like to share it with someone who likes em
Unlike you, I did. After all, I'm not a paid shill from india.
>new vegas fags this desperate because their shitty game is a sub-80 on metacritic
The combat is literally attack->roll->quent ETC
>role playing game
>playing the role of the ww2 soldier
>not a role playing game
Hey codass
>mw2
>playing role of soap mcnugget
>its an rpg
what a stupid fuckin argument. im not op, but that was pretty fuckin stupid. like kys level of stupid.
The Witcher 3 is an RPG, but a very shitty one
>can't sneak
>can't steal stuff from people's houses
>NPCs don't react to you taking stuff from their houses
>can't pickpocket
>can only use swords
>character development is shit like adding +0.5% crit chance like some Path of Exile tree
>loot is leveled
>can't attack neutral NPCs
>batman senses and GPS holding your hand the entire game
>combat is roll/hit/roll/hit/roll/hit
>only 7 spells which you all get from the beginning
>repeating swords with different names
>"alchemy" is pressing one button to magically fill all your potions without even needing any alchemy equipment
>literally only 2 dialogue options 95% of the time
>no side skills like blacksmithing, taking trophies, creating runes etc
If you want a good RPG play Gothic 2
That might be the shittiest fucking point I've ever seen someone try to make. I'm genuinely concerned you might be fucking retarded.
but the story does have consequences??
>doesn't feel like an rpg
fuck off
RPG traits
>choices have impact on story
>player can pick which attributes to level up
>having options when and where you advance the story
If a game has two of these three traits, it is an RPG, whether you think it "feels" like it or not.
>i do this so that's what the combat is
as opposed to dark souls?
attack->roll
wow
so much
better
family
>mw2
>actually good single player story
>taking on the role of a soldier
>fps can't have rpg elements
Hey faggot, lurk more before posting
>butthurt because his own point full of shit blew up in his own face
lol wipe the turd with your cuntjuice faggot
Honestly that's a good fucking point. Most of those are totally legitimate points. Doesn't make or break the game for me personally, I actually really fucking enjoyed it. But if those aren't what I'm focused on in a RPG, the lack of them doesn't bother me. Handholding bullshit, more intensive weapon choice and crafting systems would have made it much more enjoyable.
Yeah! Either the baron dies and his men go wild or the baron runs away and his men go wild! OMG CONSEQUENCES SO DIFRENT CHOICE METRESS!11
so salty
>he never made it past the baron
why are you even allowed to talk with three hours of gameplay?
He did say it was shit.
>i can't prove otherwise so i'm going to call you stupid
pray i don't prove you wrong any further
ur not my mom white boy
>i-it's only one time!
Bypass the corpse in front of the fyke isles and geralt magically knows everything about that corpse even if you've never even remotely seen him. Keep your hair short and beard cut all game and yennefer notices how you've kept your facial hair growing and geralt says he does it just because. CHOICE MATTRESS!
Literally the only 2 other choice points (freeing the oak or not, and what waifu you want to dick) are literally "pick the explosion's color"-style choices. Abloobloo everyone is dead in the village. 5 seconds later everyone is magically back. At least try to pretend you've played the game before shilling it.
mw2 doesnt give you choices that affect the story and individuals
Okay, i am game... but only if you roll a hard 8.
If it has reflex based combat like a dedicated fucking dodge button it's an action game, not an RPG.
There are only 3 kinds of RPGs:
-turn based
-real time with pause
-real time with no pause, but the combat is decided by stats, not reflexes (ie. Morrowind)
>370409404
I can role play in CoD MP, so is CoD RPG now?
No, wait... make it a double five. If you triple 5 we skip the argument and you win automatically.
thats your own definition, which is completely fucking wrong
choices is what makes a game rpg, the combat doesn't fucking matter
man, you sure converted me... i'm downloading skyrim right now. can't wait to become the dragonborn and save the world, then pick which armor sets I want the guards to be wearing when I pick a side.
Literally, unironically a large impact than all the blunder 3 quests combined.
>a role playing game but you roleplay as somebody with a set story and background
That worked great for tw1 and tw2 though.
>ff7 had one end and literally zero choices
wew
>beautiful, unforgiving world
>you play as weeb self insert perfect gary sue
I cant get past it, never played more than 10 hours
>actors aren't playing a role because they follow a script
The roleplaying lies in the details. You may have a set story, but are you going to help people or exploit then?
So basically you're saying if a game has a choice then it's a roleplaying game?
100% of Sup Forums, ladies and gentlemen.
Game I like: good!
game i don't like: not good! fuck you!
the vast majority of the population would fall under this mindset
>Game I like: good!
>game i don't like: not good!
Thats how it works
The reasoning is the main gripe
>It's popular
>x game is better
>it's on x console
Are all pathetic excuses for not liking a game.
It may have role playing in it, but that doesn't make it an RPG.
Similarly, GTA has parts where you drive a car, but it's not a racing game it's also not a sports game, even though you can play golf.
>there are people who like bad games
???????
I roleplay as someone who plays shit games and is angry about it
action rpg numb nuts.
We seem to be on the same level here, I am arguing that TW3 isn't a role playing game.
It's not. TW1 was an RPG, though.
fuck everyone's definitions. if there's a consequence for your attribute/skill point or story choices, it's an rpg
People sure are dedicated to hating this game recently
that's the standard Sup Forums cycle
>praise the game when it comes out
>start hating it later
>start loving it again when it gets old because nostalgia
every game ever
Yes, then adding action-adventure, turn-based or 3rd person action to the RPG title defines the game more closely.
RPG is a formative, organic term. It's not fixed, every other retard in this thread would rather think it's fixed though.
