Debating on buying one of the two to kill time until P5 comes out.

Just looking for an entertaining hack and slash that's a lot of fun and tough but fair.

Nier Automata is boring. Like just a boring game. It's bad, boring and cheap looking. Bare minimum of a game. Nioh is a decent game. You can tell they tried to make a nice Dark Souls imitation.

Hard to compare. Nioh is fun for messing with different fighting styles and builds, but the story may aswell not exist. Nier had me fully engrossed in the story while having decent gameplay. Also Nier's OST is the best thing i've ever fucking heard.

Ni-oh for a challenging experience and Automata for more unique experience

Hard to say but I would probably go with Nier. Story is better, music is better, and I didn't mind the post-game. With Nioh I just grinded out glory for a certain skin and stopped playing.

Nioh is a bit more combat oriented, Nier expects you to connect with certain details about characters and metanarrative.

Take your pick.

Nier excels at story, music, and all the shit that isn't game mechanics. The actual gameplay is passable and that's a boon when you consider past Taro games.

Nioh was far better as a game even though almost everything else is kind of bland or forgettable.

Nioh is so boring.

Broing is the only word that comes to mind. I don't know who will replay that shit for extra endings.

If you want a game that focuses on its combat mechanics go for Nioh.

If you want a game that focuses on telling its narrative in unique ways go for Nier.

Both have their fair share of flaws. Personally I think Nier succeeds in what it set out to do better than Nioh.

Definitely had way more fun with Nioh, but Nier impacted me emotionally in a way Nioh never did (or most games I played, for that matter.)

I'm having more fun playing nioh. im 3 hours in nier and I'm still bored. The only redeeming part is 2b's ass. When does nier get fun?

Why don't you just wait for P5 then buy both Nioh and Nier when the prices drop?

user, you might want to hold off there. Nier factually has less variety than Nioh as far as enemies go. There are far less environments too with the only strength being well done art design.

Taro games are never fun. They're just workable while you enjoy the stupidity and sometimes accidental genius of the stories and world.

If you want a good exciting game with a decent story and excellent waifus. Nier is the one

If you want a boring game that has little to no enemy variety, linear level design, slow story, slow pacing, no depth in the combat and no challenge in the game whatsoever then go Nioh.

i haven't bought nioh yet .. i chose yakuza over it and then nier over it again even though i desperately want to play it

i feel like it will price drop before the other two, that was my rationalization

that being said, nier is a great game

They're both different, so it's hard to say. I like both.

If you don't like Diablo loot system, don't get Nioh. Because other than the fast Dark Souls combat, it doesn't really have anything else going for it. I like it, because if you can "git gud" with the combat, it's almost Ninja Gaiden tier. Ki Bursting, Fluxing, Combo into a Flux into another combo into a Flux is the tigthest shit. Especially if you use skills inbetween and don't just spam R1 or R2.
And best of all, Spear is incredibly fun to use. Which is one of my favorite weapons.
So the fun combat on top of the Diablo Loot Grind at end game to get +10 items with the perfect stat rolls for the set or gear you want is fun to those who like Loot Simulators like Diablo.
I've already spent over two hundred hours on it getting a full set of +10 Fanatic Set, Levelling all my guardian spirits to level 30, and getting the 6 different weapons I wanted to plus 10. And now, I have nothing to do with it. After getting level 300, and playing a build that allowed for infinite living weapon, I've pretty much burnt myself out on it. But considering I played 300 hours, I say it's worth it.

As for Nier, it has a better story, MUCH, MUCH BETTER music, and surprisingly, even better gameplay. However, I didn't play it as much as Nioh.

Put Yakuza 0, Neir, and Nioh in a hat, shake that shit like it owes you money, then pick one at random.

If your preference can't make the choice for ya, Ya can't go wrong honestly. They're all good games.

Yoko Taro is pretty much an art house film director that has a lot of people that love him at Square so he gets to keep making the weird shit he does. It's usually around a quarter to half way through a Taro game that you either completely buy into his brand of story telling or you don't.

If you buy into it then the game sort of becomes a vessel for all the weird shit.

If not then you just hate everything.

Automata is the first time a Taro game has had good game mechanics, but it doesn't go all the way into being great.

Automata really picks up its identity at the end of route A, then cements itself as something kind of special in route C, with route E being a real nice culmination of everything you've experienced.

Not really the point.

It's hilarious to make that accusation of Nier:A while being oblivious to the same thing in Nioh.

I really want to enjoy Nioh, but I'm so bad at it. Its embarassing. I can't even get past the first area without dying over and over.

I enjoyed automata enough to finish i got up to the second zone in nioh and could never be assed to start it up again

A2s entire story is route C, and even then it's only half her story because A2 is the star of the YoRHa stage play and drama CD. The Pearl Harbor Descent logs are a summary of the stage play and drama CD.

Haven't start Nier yet, but I had more fun with its demo than with Nioh for 50 hours.

Nioh has better gameplay, challenge and enemy designs

Nier has better story, music, and has much nicer visuals.

Its your call. I happen to equally like both.
