How to get a swap magic disc to work on a slim ps2?

So I recently bought a game imported from japan and wanted to get it to work on my ps2 but am unsure of how to go about this. I tried burning swap magic onto a disc but it didn't work when i loaded into my playstation. Then I tried using a usb but it still didn't work. Is there something I could be doing wrong? Is there any tips or processes you would recommend? I'd very much appreciate the help.

Despite being called Swap Magic, it's not literally Magic. You do not simply download an iso of it, burn it, put it into your PS2 and have it magically dissect your console. Sorry to break your heart.

Slim PS2 is pirate-proof.
Sucks to be you, OP.

Thanks for that. It's my first time doing something like this and I would very much appreciate help with this.

incorrect, I installed free mcboot on my slim ps2
you just gotta tape down the 7 fucking sensors they have that check when the cover is up

Wut?
My ps2 has ben hard moded to play pirate games since 2006

Discs like Swap Magic are able to boot on a PS2 because they are burned during manufacturing to behave like proper PS2 games. This means you can't just burn it yourself on to a DVD-R or CD-R. I bought Swap Magic myself because I didn't want to mess with any physical exploits like using tape or tissue paper to block sensors. Someone here may be able to help you with that but Swap Magic wasn't that expensive when I got it. Using it I was able to run utilities off of the USB port like the Free McBoot installer. You can ask someone to send you a FMCB memory card to bypass buying anything.

To elaborate on that, there are people who will install FMCB on a memory card you send them, then send it back.
Theoretically speaking of course.
I have never done it.

Just mod it.

You need a custom case

It'll ruin your laser over time, sadly. But once you get freemcboot installed into a mem card you can play off USB instead. Swapmagic is a pain to use but it does it's job as a temp method until you can get freemcboot working properly.

If you don't already have freemcboot you are a fuckup and a child.

I bought my PS2 slim in 2005, and have been playing burnt PS and PS2 games on it since 2007. Still works like a charm.

mine crapped out after a month, so lucky you.

No way, where do you live, North Korea?

nah, I'm in the states. But then again I'd been using that PS2 slim since release like, 12 hours a day until 2010. Good times.

>playing PS2 games off of USB 1.1
lmao

For OP: don't

Hey man, if all you've got is a PS2 and a shit computer, USB 1.1 has acceptable load times all things considered. It's compatibility that's wonky last I checked.

I was looking into softmodding/piracy with PS2 the other day. Best route is to get an IDE hard drive, a fat Ps2 with the network adapter, and to copy your discs and downloaded ISOs to the HDD. Fat PS2's work with more of the PS2 peripherals anyway.

If you have a shit computer, you should most definitely take advantage of it and stream isos through ethernet (SMB). I do that and it's the only option for me since internal HDD and USB 1.1 are no good. The only problem with SMB is you need to come up with a solution if your computer only has one ethernet port, you need one for your own internet and one for the PS2.

That was my problem at the time. Thinkin about it now I could do SMB but my computer is strong enough to emulate at 10X native rez anyway.

Just burn to DVD-R, retards.

Emulation in my opinion is fine if you have a specific game with specific enhancements and you know it more or less works perfectly. But I can count the games that this applies to for each emulator on one hand, more or less, and that's after tinkering with settings, plugins, drivers and so forth.

I just think that if you want to play Ps2 games, you should probably get a PS2. not even the games themselves. There are ways around that. But some games still work better on the original hardware.

Don't you just install a flip cover on it?

My motherboard only has one ethernet port. So I bought one of these bad boys. I never make my PS2 obsolete because playing it on real hardware is always the definitive fallback when I don't feel like worrying if a game will emulate properly or fast enough, no matter how much money you throw at your computer.

It's always about not wanting to wear the laser, burning discs won't change anything.

This user is correct, I installed this shit when I was like 12 so you can probably do it friend. Or you can probably find a Swapmagic disc and just use the tape method.

i used FreeMCboot and i streamed my games to ps2 from PC through an ethernet cable
