>playing OoT for the first time on my 3ds this week >Thoroughly enjoying it >Become adult link >'Go to kakariko village for a certain item' >Look in every single building, talk to multiple NPCs during day and night >Spend hours >Use ocarina with different songs on all npcs just in case >Whenever i go to the graveyard area, navi pops up with 'WE SHOULD HEAD BACK TO KAKARIKO VILLAGE' >Ok I must be looking in the wrong place >turns out you have to pull on a grave stone with no unique texture with some tiny flowers in front and the option only comes up after a few seconds of standing BEHIND the gravestone
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEe. Killed some of the appreciation I had for the game so far.

>playing a game that is universally regarded as being sub par and expecting it to be good
Your own fault. You knew you were playing one of gamings biggest disappointments of all time, you should have expected things like this.
>b-but I thought OoT was GOTYAY
Kek, did you really fall for that 90's era Nintennigger meme?
Samuel Brooks
what the hookshot?
pretty sure Dampe mentions it to you as a kid, then you can read about it in his Diary in his shack which you can enter as an Adult (i think you can enter it as a Kid too at night time?)
Jack Davis
I never visited him as a kid link. I read his journal in his shack but it basically just says 'find my grave'. As his grave looks pretty much identical to all the others bar some small flowers at the front, it didn't stand out to me. This lead me to believe his section was to be completed later in the game. Plus it doesn't help the fact that that area is called 'Graveyard' not the 'kukori village' or w/e. Also doesn't help when Navi seems to hint to leave the place you're supposed to be at.
Easton Jenkins
>OOT isn't good meme Hahaha.
Lincoln Rivera
I went into it knowing there was a ton of hype from people with nostalgia but wanted to assess the game for myself. Like I said, I was enjoying it thoroughly, but the fact Navi tells you to essentially leave the place your supposed to be is awful game design IMO. Not to mention the flowers on the gravestone don't exactly pop out at you.
Juan Nelson
What do you want it to do? Glow, be highlighted and marked on the map with a header that reads "GO HERE DUMBASS"

his grave is a new one, in comparison to what you see as a kid. It wasn't there as a kid.
Hunter Lewis
At least have the option to grab it while standing in front of the gravestone, behind seemed pretty un-intuitive to me. And to not have navi tell you to go to the place next to the place you're supposed to be would be nice.
Jace Wright
This is bait
Oliver Gray
Fair enough, didn't really scan that part of the graveyard as kid link. Admittedly, it probably would've helped if I'd had done one of his tours as young link.
Bentley Martin
are the graves... different in the 3ds version? because in the original there is no way you can grab them from the front. it physically isnt possible
Noah Lee
OoT does have a lot of terrible game design decisions like that, honestly too many to even list, the game is full of small niggling little things like that, that end up adding up into some big problems.
Of course though, every time you say this OoT niggers will act completely bewildered at the idea that there could be a problem with OoT, then they will fake earnestly ask you what the problems with it are. And as soon as you list them, they will notify you that a Youtuber once made the same cirisism so all your arguements are invalid.
Honestly I don't see OoT gaining a single fan, the game is too overrated and the fanbase too stuck up it's own asshole for the fanbase to ever grow because people go in expecting to much and the game just underperforms poorly and the fanbase shits itself in rage if anyone pretends it's anything less than an 11/10.
Justin Kelly
That's what I'm saying, you can only grab them from behind which threw me off because when investigating them I'd stood in-front of them every time to look for a pushing motion. The pull only shows up if you stand behind them for about a second.
Tyler Bailey
...
Luke Ramirez
The graveyard is part of the village.
Samuel Taylor
o well, try not to let graves ruin the game, keep havin fun
Leo Watson
Give me the inside scoop user, someone playing for the first time. Any other points stick out to you as unintuitive? Any other flaws you've come across so far? I'm a big fan of weird flaws in older games and I haven't played OoT in a while.
Hudson Gonzalez
I understand that. But over the years of gaming and picking up certain conventions, having the AI tell me to 'move to this area' made me believe the particular area I was in was wrong, which was not the case.
Mason Lee
Thanks, hopefully this is just a minor hiccup and the rest of the game is as fun as the start.
Christopher Gray
Navi always says the same advice without triggering a flag by doing an action that brings up the next tidbit of advice. It exists as a refresher if the game hasn't been played in some time. Maybe there's some cognitive dissonance that it's a distinct area because it has a splash screen with text saying what it is.
Robert James
Actually I did find something else pretty funny. In the game your supposed to beat the new ranch owner in a race to unlock Epona. To do this you're meant to use Eponas song on the ocarina to tame her, she's speedier than the ranch owners horse so you can win the race. However, I never learn Eponas song as young link so was wondering how the fuck do I win the race (if you don't know the song, you have to ride a slower horse basically). It turns out, if you don't actually see the ranch owner cross the line, you can just wait it out until he laps you, then cross the line in a manner that looks like you beat him despite the fact he's already passed the finish line several times. Lol.

Giant's Wallet only holds 500 rupees, when there's a guy that you can buy the magic beans from. He sells 10 of them, and starts his price at 10, each one going up by another 10, so you end up paying 100 for the last one.
Altogether you pay 550 rupees, meaning if you planned to get them all at once, you have to fuck around and find another 50 before you can buy it.
Not really a problem, just would make sense to up the wallet to like 600 or something.
Zachary Moore
If I was a kid playing this game back when it came out, I can imagine the parts where you drop ruto in water and she just vanishes to be pretty jarring lol. Obviously, if you've played games for a while you understand the concept of respawning so you know where to pick up after you're mistake.

>playing OoT for on my 3ds this week >complete a major section >game barely tells you where to go next >have to google how to find places constantly because the map is shit I like this game but unless you're a dweeb constantly playing it it's a pain in the ass if you're picking it up here and there with a normal life to live in between
Caleb Morris

>people saying git good and bragging about beating the game when they were 10 >impying when your a kid you don't have seemingly unlimited time and tenacity for vidya >impying kids never shared advice and tips for shit like this when they were at school, etc.
Tyler Nelson
OP here, I don't find this part of the game too bad. The bottom map on the 3DS is kind of ass seeing as there's no dynamic marker. But I'm fairly sure the original didn't have the same sort of thing so doesn't bother me too much. It helps that everything is basically all crammed pretty close together in this game though.
Dominic Campbell
>game barely tells you where to go next >have to google how to find places constantly because the map is shit You are what is wrondg with gaming. These are games where there is no bullshit handolding quest markers. even Navi was seen as a noob tool at the time but was needed fot most as it was a jump to 3d. Git fukin gud. Remember that the "nostlgia fags" actually played games you know. They didn;t watch guides or perdiepie scream at everything for 30mins, they actually played them and figured shit out.
Even OP, compaining that it wasn't apparent enough where the grave was, but he wasn't thorough enough to search 360 around every grave trying to move them in both adult and young links timeline. How retarded can you be.
Ryder Brown
Oh boy, you are going to love the desert temple
Wyatt Jenkins
Read a guide next time you're stuck for a long time retard.

to find an item you need to progress, you have to pass through your first-encountered illusory wall. the item you get after the fact lets you see through illusory walls and introduces you to the fact they exist. so for me, i was stuck until i looked it up, because i didnt walk behind a chest and through the seemingly normal wall
Asher Reed
It was more an issue of the game making me think I was looking in the wrong area when I wasn't that I had a problem with. And I don't care how much of a fan you are, giving people a pop-up reminder to go to a place they're already at, or to an area seemingly different to the one they're at, is bad game design.
Jack Rodriguez
ITT: >How were you supposed to know that you had to jump inside the paintings?
Julian Sanchez
Well no shit, do that eventually. But trying to solve a puzzle even if it takes hours can still be very satisfying when you work it out. Unfortunately a multitude of factors just left me thinking the wrong way the game wanted me to think which led to me eventually looking it up.
Thomas Moore
calm down sperg, liek I said, I have an actual life and can't gaem for 20 hours a day like you. I'm not going to remember every random hint and every random area when I have to work and go to school and hang out with my gf and find time to play this game in between
Ryan Hughes
its even worse when you consider these games arent that big. the bigass field has like 5-6 outlets at most. so worst case scenario, someone with mental retardation just has to check out 6 places and see if their equipment overcomes an obstacle there
Ayden Perez
Except it's not like that at all. It's more like Toad telling you to look in the next room for an item that's already in the room your in.
Bentley White
It was common then. OoT was made in a time where standard design tropes weren't present. Conditioning from modern games has you biased to certain expectations instead of thinking freely, "inside the box" if that idiom is appropriate.
Luke Miller
It's time for bed. You have school in the morning.
Charles Allen
You're right standing behind the grave. I remember this being one of the few things that bothered me as well when I played it back then. And Navi ist just a nagging and annoying lightbulb, don't take her hints too literal. She's pretty much the pre-cursor of a map marker.
Kevin Rivera
iirc she says go to kakariko village, and the graveyard is a part of kakriko villiage. It is a long time since I have played the game, but I can wholeheartedly say that navi for me is a pain in the ass more that a help, I used her a few times in the first play through I guess, but never again. I would expect any one else to have done the same. As I said before she was obviously added as the jump from 2d-3d was a huge one so a tutorial object was needed. iirc In a LttP there are only saria stones in certain places that help you, you have to figure out everything and where to go on your own. Games of this era used to come with big manuals and every manual had a pretty big notebook at the back too. There was a reason for this. Even now as I am playing BotW I have a notebook by me to write shit down in case i forget.
Joseph Cruz
The next room is inside the painting
Jacob Moore
Standing behind the grave makes logical sense. Pushing in front shouldn't be possible because there is no footing as it is being pushed. An actual issue is the auto jump and ledge grab context action interfering with descending the catacomb's stairs.
Camden Lewis
plus i feel like the graves are shaped in such a way that the front doesnt have much to push against. i havnt played in years, but theyre slanted down in the front, right?
Asher Martin
Poorfag thread? Poorfag thread!
Wyatt Smith
It was more the fact that at this point I wasn't sure whether the thing I was looking for was in the actual village or the graveyard itself. I was assuming because I never noticed the flowers on the gravestone that the gravekeepers gravestone would be much bigger than the others similar to the royal gravestone or the one with the inscription you see when you first enter the graveyard. That led me to believe that the gravekeepers item was something you would have to find AFTER finding the item shiek tells you to get from Kakariko village.
Robert Evans
>playing a game that is universally regarded as being sub par and expecting it to be good
oot is the most well regarded game of all time faggot
regardless of how good it actually is
Asher Diaz
For example, I was thinking it might be the gravestone? you see on the hill above the royal gravestone guarded off by a fence.
Chase Baker
Not sure I've ever seen "niggling" and "nigger" both used correctly so close together.
Brandon Hall
I played OoT like 5 times on my 64 when I was a kid and I surely enjoyed it back then.
Actually I'm right now where OP is too and I already got bored. Don't what is wrong with me?
And I started OoT3D just recently after playing Azure Striker Gunvolt 2.
