Delayed response to who is talking about Blizzard following fads in an old thread.

Actually Blizzard set these fads.
Hearthstone started the collectable card game meme.
Starcraft started the RTS as a very popular genre meme.
Diablo basically started its own genre, as far as the popular public is concerned.
World of Warcraft put MMOs on most people's radars.
And Overwatch comes at a time when TF2 was going out, not being fashionable.

Blizzard starts trends, doesn't ride them.

Yeah and your mom rides me

Besides Diablo, Blizzard has jumped on popular genres. Overwatch is a great example of this, their MOBA was a flop so they create this MOBA FPS. They always create casual games with a certain art style and it's popular with casuals because they like easier games.

How is Overwatch a "moba fps"?
What the fuck is a "moba fps"?

>Starcraft
Command & Conquer
>World of Warcraft
DAoC. Some WoW developers stated they loved playing DAoC (that's why Vanilla was hardcore).
>Hearthstone and Overwatch
Blizzard is just good at mixing known schematics and satisfying production value.

Focus on characters' abilities alone makes it a moba FPS.

Is Crysis a MOBA FPS you memelord?

>Hearthstone started the collectable card game meme.
MtG online.

>Starcraft started the RTS as a very popular genre meme.
>RTS
>very popular
At least you're right that it's a meme

>World of Warcraft put MMOs on most people's radars.
Following fads 100%.

Never played it, can't tell. I'm pretty sure Crysis is a singleplayer game which makes it impossible for it to be MOBA, though.

Excuse me but I'm a fucking blizzdrone and at least admit that their games aren't that original. But they are well executed. Also Heroes of the Storm happened.

"How to spot a paid shill" the Post

This thread should be sticky'd for educational purposes.

Agreed on Hearthstone
Agreed on World of Warcraft

Disagree with everything else.

Starcraft 2 set no trends in the industry, in fact it has regressed some. People went back to comp Brood War after SC2 comp died.

Diablo 3 failed to capture what made Diablo 2 great

Overwatch is literally a TF2 clone, it's only innovative in the same sense that Candy Crush is innovative; it got popular because of its packaging.

Heroes of the Storm "or previously named Blizzard DOTA" speaks for itself.

Even the cancerous "games as a service" model wasn't started by them; it was done by Valve and they aped it.

Brood War IS STARCRAFT for fucks sake. Why do you treat it like its some other developer's other series?
Starcraft (the original game, not the sequel) took RTS from a niche genre to a popular one. It set the trend.

>RTS
>popular

Because counting a 15+ year old game as part of a company's modern legacy is frankly irrelevant.

Using that logic Overwatch owes everything to iD Software for making doom.

Shit, Diablo wasnt even made by Blizzard if you want to technical, it was made by Blizzard North which has almost nothing to do with Blizzard Cal.

>MtG online.
Nobody played that clunky piece of shit. Hearthstone has actually started the current CCG fad, stop being delusional. Wizards even shat out semi-playable client after seeing the popularity of Hearthstone. But I doubt Magic could ever successfully convert to digital.

>you stretched an arm's length forward, so let me counter that by stretching across the galaxy

Bullshit and you know it.

Vanilla wow in 2004 was considered "lol casual shit" because most of MMOs were about massive grinds or playing with party 90% of the time. I remember everquest 2 and Lineage 2. Posibility of dinging max lvl in 1-2months were like "lol wtf so fast". I remember these discussion on phpbb forums

>Starcraft started the RTS as a very popular genre meme.
Wrong C&C did and Blizzshit stole everything from Westwood look at WC1 that shit was unplayable.

aiming doesn't matter, it is just positioning, team coordination, timing cooldowns and team composition. It is just a MOBA in disguise

RTS started to be popular something around Dune 2 being released on commondore amiga. After this i can't even count how many various rts games were released. It was a fuckton from top tier to niche. i still got old cds from old game magazines with many of demos. And still original KKND and M.A.X. disc

you have to be underage if you think this.

MtG started the fad, and blizzard rode it with Hearthstone.

Restating your shitty claim doesn't give it any more credibility.

Restating yours doesn't either.

>Blizzard doesn't follow fads

>Starts putting examples of Blizz's latest games that aren't Diablo or Starcraft that follow fads

Whoa.

Damn.

I was blind but now I see.

>Hearthstone started the collectable card game meme.
>Starcraft started the RTS
