Has all the answers, but they're shitty and unsatisfying

>Has all the answers, but they're shitty and unsatisfying.
>You finally play as Solid Snake again, but he's now an old fart, Raiden is instead the cool competent one. Roles are switched.
>You go back to Shadow Moses, but it's now a derelict, falling apart.
>Meryl returns, but she's now no longer in love with Snake, instead she marries the boy who constantly poops his pants.

Memes aside, was it genuinely intentionally shit? It's like a Monkey's Paw MGS.

Yes, this was Kojima getting fucking pissed that the "spit in the face" that was supposed to be MGS2 ended up praised, so he not only destroyed the entire message of MGS2, but he cucked and killed Snake.

Basically the MGS series is old and busted.

I've always thought that MGS4 Raiden was big 'fuck you' to all the MGS2 haters.
Like, now that he's not the playable character Kojima decided to male him this unstoppable 'SO COOL BADASS' just to fuck with the people who hated him.

No. I think it's a sincere game that uses themes of weariness and depression for a purpose. Say what you will about it, but the game effectively conveys Snake's struggle if nothing else. I've never understood why people whine about Snake being old, though, Hayter's unfortunate performance aside.

MGS4 is a mess of story and game design both, but I think people interpreting Kojima's failure as willful assault on the fanbase are very wrong. There's a lot of sincerity in the game. It's just misguided.

MGO2 IS COMING BACK NEXT MONTH
BEST MGS BACK TO BEING BEST

>MGO2
>Good

It was a cute novelty at best.

you mean mgo revival?

>willful assault on the fanbase

It might not be a direct assault but one can not deny that Kojima deconstructs and mocks a lot of the things his fanbase loves. He takes a lot of jabs at idol worship and fetishizing war and conflict, even if it's clear a part of him also enjoys it.

MGS4 was a huge rollercoaster of quality. I think it had some really good moments and set pieces, but also some really bad ones as well (i.e. anything that included Johnny and Meryl - what a fucking cringe fest)

still better than 5, though

Hey, at least it isn't V
That would make a good tagline on the box if they ever did a rerelease too.

He means you can play mgo2 without a custom firmware

it's a metaphor for real life

snake cant do it anymore
good thing he was a positive influence for multiple people prior to his condition hnn?

V is so much better than 4 it's not even funny.

What the fuck is wrong with you people.

Maybe if you remove the boring open world sections and change the story

MGS 4 was basically Hideo Kojima defecating on Solid Snake.

>Not liking Old Snake
Name ONE (1) better elder MC.

some plebians who still feel the phantom pain but even that is lie like everything in mgsv. how long will it take to people understand the mgsV it took 15 years to people realize mgs2 got best story.

I disagree, V felt like Splinter Cell or some shit and not Metal Gear. They could have at least had a colourful squad of superpowered henchmen to fight but no, it's crawl around in the fucking desert or plains all game.

>>You finally play as Solid Snake again, but he's now an old fart, Raiden is instead the cool competent one. Roles are switched.
How so? Raiden is a emo ninja in 4. And jobs like a bitch when you first see him. Meanwhile Snake in his 80s(physically) and is still doing badass shit.

Fuck off dude, V is such a shit game that it makes 4 actually seem competent. Kojima hasn't made a good game since Subsistence but V is the worst of the lot, by a huge margin.

>gay emo robot that dances and pukes semen
>cool and competant

I like MGS4. The gameplay is fucking amazing.

better than MGSV

Nah. It's better until realize how much it actually lacks where it counts like mission structure, level design, boss fights, story, cutscenes. Still better than Piss walker tho.

>Kojima deconstructs and mocks a lot of the things his fanbase loves
Rightfully so (the conversation between Snake and Otacon about Big Boss in MGS4 is a good example) but that's not the same as "intentionally shit."

>he doesn't want to play Old Snake
Are you all Japanese school girls?

Too bad you get like 20 minutes to actually play with it in and then it becomes a shitty RE4 clone.

Its threads like these that make me wonder if I live in some parallel dimension where the games I play are completely different.

I've bought and played every Metal Gear game to completion several times over and would willingly discuss this series and it's stories for an entire day straight just because of how much I enjoy it

but I played MGS4 a single time and never touched it again, I can't even pinpoint what I hate most about the game but what a fucking disaster

Everyone is scared to see Konami do their own MGS game without Kojima and see how bad it would turn out but if it was even slightly better than this game I wouldn't be mad

I disagree. I think it has a lot of MGS3's problems and a few new ones.

Old Snake is best Snake.

>Retards believe this
>They let retards like you on computers

Such a shame

>MGS4 gameplay
>Good

Oh boy I sure love that MGS3 gameplay with a TPS control scheme glued on top that makes stealth totally redundant; and let's not forget nanomachine instant alerts and being in a warzone with everyone gunning for you for some reason.

so you are the one who still feels phantom pain and believes lies?

>still better than 5

No it isn't.

at least it's not a boring open world like that shitfest that is V

>Sup Forums hates game
>successor comes out
>Sup Forums now loves said game
everytime

i am 99% sure you play game whit bullet time.

>instant alerts
I don't think this is an intrinsic issue. The older games have instant alerts too. The issue is that sneaking is rarely all that compelling and that shooting your way out of problems isn't very demanding thanks to the abundance of weapons and the newer controls that you mention.

It doesn't help that even the first two acts feel like set pieces with sneaking and exploration as an after thought more than well-designed levels.

Except the motorcycle ride and that part where you are on top of a vehicle, there's not a single time where you are forced to play it anything other way than stealth.

You actually don't have be fire any lethal weapon at all through the entire game.

Dunno what problems you are referring to.

MGS4 makes TPS shooter gameplay viable, which is actually not bad for replayability. You can still play it via stealth if you want to, which I usually do, but there's also something fun about using the excellent weapons it has.

V with markers, HUD, reflex and everything else turned off is literally the best gameplay in the series.

you mean V? because it has some kind of slow-mo bullet time if you don't recall

I'll take V over MGS 4. MGS 4 was far and away my reason to buy a PS3. Thank fuck there as tons of other shot that made it worthwhile because MGS 4 is a trainwreck that drowns in a lake of homeless people diarrhea.

I at least had some fun with V.

MGS2 is best Snake.
It goes
MGS2 snake > MGS1 snake = Solidus > Old snake> Venom = naked snake> Liquid snake> PW/MGSV Big Boss.

I think he's implying you specifically played MGSV with the bullet-time still on

And from the sound of things, you did, you casual

Tanker Chapter in 2 >>>>> any other Metal Gear game, moment, boss fight, fucking anything

To be fair, V feels like a different game with all that shit turned off.

>jobs like a bitch

Nigger, he's like fighting 4 Gekkos or something and flipping one or two around the air.
Later he fights Vamp like a Ninja.
After that he stops freaking Outer Haven with nothing but his cyborg body.
He then loses his arms, but wrecks other soldiers by looking at them because that results in a cast of Thundaga.

I don't know where Raiden jobbed in MGS4.

I didn't even play a lot MGSV, got bored after the first mission.

>change the story
MGSV is thematically the most interesting MGS along with 2.

I'm sorry you didn't get your boilerplate revenge story.

But Bis BOSS DIDNT GO NUCLEAR!!!! NO NIG CHILDREN GET KILLED WTF!

why isnt this revenge story like Revenge of the sith! fuck konami!

>Dunno what problems you are referring to.
I assume this is meant for I'm mostly referring to balancing issues.

MGS4 at least is a Metal Gear game with even better and deeper control than V.

V is simplified TPS in an open world with nothing to do.

And the boss fights in 4 are better than any in V, try to argue that.

It's a metaphore about Kojima's miserable life induce by Konami and the game developement who looked like heart of darkness, retard.

>Pic related

Piss walker had better enemy variety and characters that are geniunly interesting.

>After that he stops freaking Outer Haven with nothing but his cyborg body.

Fuck, that entire scene was just ridiculous. Then the next scene you see him fine with a new body. Well then why did you make it seem like he actually died then, Kojima? Holy shit, what a mess.

how?

It has interesting themes. I don't think it handles them in compelling ways.

Still, I prefer its story to MGS4's and Peace Walker's for the most part.

>I'm mostly referring to balancing issues.
such as?

The story was a mess (welcome to MGS), but I liked old snake. The whole "one last romp" theme was fun. Snake has more flaws now, which makes him more entertaining to play as. Before he was a lost soul, kind of a dick and smoked a lot? Essentially he was a parody of the male power fantasy. Now we get to watch what little he had crumble before him while he struggles to find some place in a increasingly fucked up universe (you could almost place this game as a 1984 side story).

Plus the gameplay was tight for what it was. Doing the worm is the best stealth mechanic 2012.

Also the gameplay, what little we got, was some of the best. Haven't played 5 yet so no comment there. The only thing it lacks are some of the survival details from 3.

>MGS4 Goodgameman
>Thedoorknob

>interesting

lmaoing @ ur life

Just because MGS 4 follows the formula of the previous games mgs games & to a certain extent the design of the original Metal Gear games?

>Raidon
>cool, competent

Turning him into an even bigger anime cliche was the worst thing that could have happened to him. He had this big, open-ended finale in MGS2 and the most they did with it was create a divide between Meryl and Campbell.

Enemies are pretty much pushovers in the wake of your arsenal. Things like CQC, more open levels, all the weapons, and camo make it such that sneaking isn't demanding or interesting at all and that getting caught isn't much of a problem either.

Some of these things could be solved with denser enemy placement, but MGS3 rarely bothers and MGS4 stops caring at all after Act 2. The only exception is the brief beginning of Act 5.

The same recycled tank, helicopters bosses and a bunch of rehashed previous MGS characters to shittier result, are not interesting.

Play on harder difficulty. I know that's a "weak" argument against what might be inadequate game design, but sharpened enemy senses and aggressiveness on the higher difficulty levels make it much harder. I agree, the AI on normal is laughable, but at least they developed behavioral changes for the AI to scale with difficulty.

Can we all just agree that MGS is overrated as shit and the only reason people like it is because it's japanese

Harder difficulties help, but they don't really make the core of what the game does more compelling.

get over it already. i'ts been 8 years.
fucking pathetic.

Nope.

fuck off kojima

Whenever you're thinking Kojima might be some kind of genius, just rewatch all the Johnny scenes from MGS 4.

>mgs4 is almost 10 years old
It doesn't seem that long ago. Man 2008 is so different from now.

or just any cutscene from any of the games

>Hayter's unfortunate performance aside
Literally how they told him to do it.

Shakespeare loved toilet humor.

>Literally how they told him to do it.
I'm aware. It's still awful.

Shhh. Don't ask a retard why they're retarded.
