I started playing PS2 in 2013 after dropping PC games.
Fuck yes I do. Mostly with friends though. Its all bout ATV off-road fury, ssx on tour, and downhill domination. I just cleaned both the lenses on it though and I think I may have fucked it more than I fixed it
Not too much these days, though the Silent Hill and Fatal Frame games at a minimum ensure I'll never get rid of it. I did replay Megaman Legends 2 on it a few months back, though. Was a good time.
My fat ps2's disc drive opens and closes slowly. Afraid it might die soon
Fuck yes, I still play picture related regularly
Mine has been plugged in and ready to go almost constantly since 2005. I play it more than anything else since piracy is so easy and I have tons of CDs and DVDs to burn games to.
It's probably just the belt.
Get a network adapter, old compatible HDD and look up softmodding tuts and ones on how to install games to the HDD. Don't go for a USB HDD since the speeds are so slow you won't be able to really play anything.
Mine was on its way out and I softmodded it (I had a swap magic disc from years ago and extra IDE HDD, just had to get network adapter) and loaded a ton of games on its internal HDD. It sits happily next to my other systems and still sees use.
I've been playing the ace combat games in preparation for AC7. Only had 4 back in the day, most way through AC0 now. After that I'll play the electrosphere translation I guess
oh god the soundtrack, and THE MAP, I always know it in my head of Garebaldee (how I pronounced it back as a kid). I also mained Elise and when I finally got to her home map I realized what the term "hot garbage" meant.
I play through both Katamari, Gitarooman, and Ape Escape 2/3 yearly
I pick up PS2 games pretty regularly from my local shop since they're usually ~$5. It's a really fun system to collect for since the prices haven't inflated much outside rpgs
amazing how this game just doesn't get old.
Not in a while, no. I've got a fat PS2 and the disc reading on it isn't too good anymore. I need to take it out again and test it.
how much can i sell my ps2 with 2 controllers and 1 memory card?
ten bucks
They made 155 millions of them.
>Klonoa 2
I think that was the last game I was playing on my PS2 considering that's one of the few decent games that's hardly emulatable iirc
i modded my slim ps2 forever ago but it stays in its box since emulation has come so far. the real deal just cant stand up to widescreen patches, higher native res, aa/af.
what if i put it in a really nice box?
Bought a ps2 couple of months ago and have been playing the Megaten games and DMC1&3.
I thought all the maps were good, which one was Elise's home map?
Yes. I don't have anything else to play on.
Does emulating count?
I play tekken 5 with a friend sometimes
No.
Mod that shit before it does and run games from HDD or network
Yeah, I never bothered getting a new console, PS2 and PSP are as far as I went.
Currently working my way through Black, kinda hard to believe EA made that game, its pretty damn good.
Yeah, I still go back and play the Silent Hill games from time to time.
Of course.
Emulators are great.
How do you guys play old games without getting emotional?
It hurts to even think about playing old PS2 or N64 games. I tried a long time ago.
I recently bought GhostHunter for it
It's pretty good
I can't play old consoles on hdtvs. The input lag is too great
i have a ps2 in the arcade cabinet I made
when will Spyro return to its former glory?
I think you could sell the controllers 10-20 $ a piece and 10$ for memory card. 40$ for the unit.
Was playing Jak & Daxter last night.
How hard was it to make your cabinet? I've been considering making one for my game room
Hell Yeah OP, I've bought all 3 xenosaga games and I'm trying to beat em all chronologically.
Still at the first one, I'm stuck at the god damn DOMO carrier that sometimes feel like OHKO everything.Pretty fun game, though.
Time is somewhat amiss for finishing stuff, but I'm planning on finishing Onimusha 1-3,Okami and all ps2 SMT's.
not to hard my biggest problem was finding the time to do it
I have been recently replaying the Ace Combat trilogy and finished Yakuza 2 a month ago. I use my PS2 more than my PC and PS4 combined, such a good console,
Been playing Yakuza. Trying to do the shooting segment with a generic controller was true suffering.
Do you prefer ATV ORF 2 or 1? Second one always seemed much smoother and more fun to play, imo
i run ps2 games off a 40gb IDE drive from an old pc from '05. one day i'll upgrade it to a tb of SSD and put all my games on it, but not now.
if you're lucky enough to get your hands on a ps3 to ps2 memcart adapter, you can use that and softmod the memcart to boot from it too, if you dont have a magic swap disc.
i used to love flight sims as a kid, but after i lost my joystick, never played them anymore. Sup Forums's Ace Combat threads changed all of that. such good stuff.
I WISH I had Klonoa 2.
Yes, I play mine at least once a week. Actually want to get a new one, modded, just cause.
Just replace the laser.
Kinda.
I soft-modded my PS2, so I can play any PS2 game I want, regardless of region.
I made an Xbox modding tutorial that has been super popular, my next one is going to be a tutorial to softmod and add a Hard drive for the PS2.
youtube.com
It's revived thanks to modding.
>Klonoa 2
Goddamn is this game hard to get. Anyone know where I could get it for a good price?
I broke my PS2 trying to mod it
The order of your consoles infuriates my autistic ass.
3, 2, 4.
FIX IT FIX IT FIX IT
Is this the year /vr/ lets the PS2 join?
>Vertical
Yeah, whatever
FAG
How do you play PAL games on a 60hz US (HD)TV? I am not ready to import a european TV yet (too much $$$ for now).
the idea that the pstv came out after the ps4 is amusing
also when did they sell something to stand it on its side?
...
The board will be deleted before that happens since it wasn't even discontinued until 2013. It would open the fucking floodgates for Halo, Luigi's Mansion, all sorts of other shit that underages will feel nostalgia for
Fuck yeah. I own MGS, ICO and DMC on HD collection for my PS3 but i started rebulding a PS2 collection 2 years ago.
Stay triggered.
Can't put discs in easily on PS3 if ordered those right anyway.
Got more room to put shit on than flat.
I actually ordered it by most to least used save for the Vita.
2015 I think.
playing Odin's Sphere right now, my nig nogs
Do the PAL GTA games run any slower, or are they optimized?
i play budokai 3 with my friends and co workers every weekend.
I'm actually playing Dot Hack INFECTION as we speak.
Shit's as unsettling as it is fun. Also this story is pretty intriguing so far. Just cured my bro Pyros of his love potion effect from the filthy haxor furfag. Grinding up everyone except for Elk and Mistral before adventuring into the next anomolous site because spellcaster AI in this game is absolutely braindead.
>.HACK
Is the animu any better or any worse?
Anime has surprisingly good voice acting and direction, but the animation is low budget and it shows. Watching them as I play so I don't get spoiled but the ending in Part 1 made me uncomfortable as fuck. In a good way.
Also there's hidden keywords in the subtitles, which is a cool touch. Makes me feel like I'm playing those old text adventures that would put hints in the fluff books to encourage reading them.
Guess i wouldn't know.
All i can tell tou is, sure looks nice with a component cable, widescreen mode and trails turned off.
I still play mine every couple of weeks. I think the PS2 days were the golden age of games. Advanced enough to make decent looking games but not enough to rely entirely on graphics.
I still get down on Godhand, Crazy Taxi, Shinobi, THPS2/3, Burnout 3.
Plus it has some of the best 2 player games out there.
>widescreen mode turned off
You mean there IS a widescreen mode? And what's a "trail"?
I just started getting into this. Bout halfway through Cornelius's story
I still have a few PS2 controllers and USB adapters. Does that count?
The Shadow of the Colossus runs so much better on the PS3. Such an excellent game, but the PS2 framerate...
Why would you get emotional about video games?
No no, widescreen turned ON.
And trails were these odd after effects in GTA III and VC. Like when on, you could see after images of moving people and cars, turning them off in the menu made evrything look super sharp and clean.
Especially with a component cable, makes it night and day for clarity.
My GF used my amazon wishlist over christmas and got me Okami, Black and Psi Ops.
None of them I haven't played yet because I'm still playing Dragons Quest.
Does anyone remember Area 51? I'm thinking of buying it again but I'm worried it's aged like milk.
K2 feels strange for some reason
i don't like it as much as K1
Okay, since you seem to be a european gamer, might I ask what TV you're using? I want to someday (maybe in 2 years) import a european HDTV, and I want low lag and good deinterlacing.
the games just seem to work, but strangely a lot of them have a tv option right at the beginning so you can select NTSC. thankfully a lot of these are games that are PAL only, or JP and PAL only.
a few games that i know that do this are silent hill 2 director's cut, wipeout pulse, and michigan report from hell
Nice. I just started his story.
final chapters of gwendolyn was hard as fuck for me for some reason but I guess I just need to git gud
Samsung
So, SH2 EU release can run on an american TV as long as the console is modded....... noted.
Is it too much to ask for the model?
it can run on an american tv modded or not modded. the games i listed probably have that feature at the beginning in case someone played their euopean ps2 on an american tv or something
I doubt he ever will, but a man can dream.
Probably what I'll have to end up doing. Certain games usually have the infamous Disc Read Error so I'm guessing that's the problem.
I've got a PS2 right on my desk
>tfw streaming lesser played games from my home server while playing most played games off the PS2's internal HDD thanks to FreeMCBoot
Shit's cash
If you live in the US, I can give you a guy who replaces lasers and installs chips (but does not repair anything else).
I uh.... Dunno.
Why do you want one anyway?
what's the best guide for modding a ps2?
Man, why the fuck were trails ever turned on by default?
Fat: imgur.com
Slim: Dunno.
I want to eventually import an HDTV with PAL support so I could play european PS1 and PS2 games in 50/25 frames, and the PAL god intended.
Slim master race
You can put a chip in both, but you NEED fat to install a hard drive and put games on it.
I dunno. When you ask people about this too they get all nonsensicle.
>it just wont FEEL like GTAIII if you turn em off man...
I don't get em.
yes. still play it despite owning a ps4 and a xbox one. in fact i play it more now that there is literally 0 games on the newer consoles
Replayed it last year i think. It has aged but it's still a pretty fun shooter with good stupid over the top scenes.
I felt it easy and short as fuck, tho
first slim-revision has the solder-points for an IDE-cable/adapter, though.
Why bother with a mod chip when you can have a modded memory card that works in practically any PS2 you put it in?
Because one method is clearly superior.
Last I checked you could solder a PATA cable in but the drive needed to be reformatted every time the system was restarted
