Is it just shitposting...

Is it just shitposting, or are people actually mad that Termina is "retconned" to be just the representation of Skull Kid's mind? Because I always assumed it would be like this. I thought the Moon at the end made that clear enough.

In my opinion it would have weakened the game to have Termina be an actual place that is somehow connected to Hyrule. Majora's Mask is a self-contained story, and Termina is designed entirely around its purpose to be the place Majora's Mask takes place in. Do people actually want Termina to be a "real" place? Or do people even really care for that matter, or do they just want to shitpost against Aonuma for some reason?

So happy mask salesman is a figment of skullkid's imagination? Well that's stupid.

He just ended up in there somehow, same as Link.

I'm not "mad".
But it is a pretty shit revelation

Why do you think that? Doesn't it fit the game?

I am honestly interested, because I personally always thought the game was just that.

where does it say that?

Either way, we know Termina is a parallel universe, which is why it has many of the same people, just re imagined. and skull kids are children from lost woods, so he must have traveled from Hyrule

>Termina is "retconned" to be just the representation of Skull Kid's mind
Where did you hear that?

I guess people who really like MM and are also actually timeline fags would be upset

Not only is "It was all a dream" pretty cheap at this point in time, it also means pretty much 90% of the adventure is actually pointless.
It's not like Link's Awakening where the main focus of the game is to get the hell off the island and pretty much nothing else. In MM 95% of the game is helping people in various ways, and even the main goal of stopping the moon is to partially save the very distressed land, as well as get you home.
And now we find out all of it was completely pointless. Everything stopped existing pretty much the moment you left? Then what was even the point of showing the credits and showing how you helped everyone if it LITERALLY didn't matter whatsoever?
Anyway I kinda don't buy it, it really doesn't fit with what we've know. The only evidence prior is that Termina is kinda weird and surreal, compared to Hyrule, but it still doesn't really make sense for that be Skull Kid's of all people's dream.

It's in the new encyclopedia or whatever it is.

>Kokiri were Hylian

>zelda timeline garbage

stealing 8+ year old head canon lore from a fanbase as autistic as the zelda one is always a bad idea and this is proof positive

shame on nintendo for being so lazy

What headcanon?

Termina is Link's mind trying to cope with the fact that none of his heroic deeds will be remembered.
For example:

He is Kafei, the mysterious masked kid, a prohibited love, a kid(he never matured) marrying a woman.

The mask, his heart, fighting against his soul, his destiny of becoming the fierce Hero.

The time, his biggest enemy, it took away his childhood, his friends, the unavoidable doom.

>>zelda timeline garbage
>When all the games fit perfectly besides the Capcom games and the Downfall copout.

>this is the 3rd timeline
>people still take this shit seriously
In 3 years there will be another artbook with another new timeline its the real deal this time guys trust us, pls buy it

Child and Adult don't.

>look up the new encyclopedia
>more retcons like the effects Demise's curse
>they made up another "official timeline"
Anything to get easy bucks from the Zelda audience.

Explain

>Child
OoT - MM - TP

>Adult
OoT - WW - PH - ST

> this fucking vague autistic reaching

It removes all stakes the game could possibly ever have. It's just extremely anticlimatic,

Alternate reality to the brink of destruction is way better than "it was a dream all along". Only LA did it right. You feel kinda bad seeing all the good people you met disappearing forever because of you.

I always thought of Termina as a parallel land.

Figured it was either Skull Kid, The Mask, or the Happy Mask Salesman who were responsible for it. But I always assumed that the danger was real.

That's probably what I'll choose to stick with anyways.

OoT in general doesn't fit in the timeline because it implies no sealing war ever took place when it was meant to be a prequel to LttP in the first place.
It just so happened that OoT spawned two new timelines based on it's inconsistency.

Basically OoT fucked everything up.

The giants throw the moon straight out of Termina into Twilight Princess era Hyrule, which makes the giant fissues in the ground, preventing the world from flooding like Windwaker
It's right there. Death mountain in a goddamned sphere.

its not "Just a dream". Its Link's inner mind doing mental battle with Skull kid. Its pretty dark. He is fighting for his life within his own mind

Seriously? Fuck this.

You fucking dunce, why do you think I put
>Downfall copout

Doesn't the thing explain Termina was created after Skull Kid stole the mask? As far as i got it the point was that the mask materialized these thoughts of Skull Kid a-la Silent Hill, so him, Link and the masks salesman are still real, just trapped in this dream until you fix it

It's alright, but it does kind of make all the side stories and characters seem entirely pointless.

Who gives a shit. It's a game, it was never real.

You don't really understand what a copout is do you.

fuck you. FUCK. YOU. Zelda is a fantasy documentary

don't get why anyone thinks there is a "zelda timeline". The games were created without considering one. I just see it as an eternal conflict, Ganon and Link will always end up reincarnating to face each other. One wins, time goes by, cycle starts again.

The Mask Salesman is a fucking deity.

He purposely let the mask fall into Skull Kid's hands, as a joke.

Of course he's going to be chilling in Termina, watching the chaos unfold.

>Puts the 3d games timeline into a 'what if' situation due to the creation of WW instead of continuing on with the plot or working WW better.
Seems like a copout to me.

Speaking of Majora's Mask, have you all seen that fan trailer that came out a couple months ago?

It's pretty fucking good.

>And now we find out all of it was completely pointless. Everything stopped existing pretty much the moment you left?

Link's awakening was exactly this. Get off the island, turns out it was a dream. Just sounds like:

>majora's mask sucks cause you do all that work, now you find out it was just a dream!
>Links awakening was fine, cause you do all that work, only to find out it was a dream!

No because in Majora's Mask the plot was to stop Skull Kid and the mask from destroying Termina. Why do that if it doesn't even exist. Why not just take Epona and get the hell out of there?

Link's Awakening did it right because your objective was to literally leave, doesn't matter if it was a dream or not.

>2D games
>what if
No. We already knew that Hyrule goes through a huge war leading to LttP from LttP. The what if scenario is the hero winning and no war occurring just like the DBZ what if stories in the games.

Not every bad end is the copout user.

But it isn't just a dream, it is a representation. "It was all a dream." is a terrible trope when it is used as some kind of akward twist, but this does not apply here.

It's some easily disposable line in some book no one read in a series where story doesn't really matter so it's not really worth caring about, but yeah generally being told that it wus all jus a dream lul and none of the people you helped actually benefited or even existed is annoying.

The plot was to stop the moon from destroying Termina and survive and get out of there.

I personally don't care what some 2-bit hacks say, Majora's Mask took place in a pocket universe.

It gives that impression from the very beginning, as well as the end. So the danger is still real.

Can you give me a quicker rundown?

It's a copout becasue it wasn't a bad end. If WW didn't exist, LttP would be the Adult Timeline. Since it does and contradicts that, they had to put it in a situation where OoT Link dies.

Why does he need to stop the moon to leave. Why not just leave if it isn't real?

>LttP would be the Adult Timeline.
Where Ganon would be defeated by Link and the war prevented.

LttP literally needs a failure to happen because the cause of it was Ganon succeeding in obtaining the Triforce in the Sacred Realm. That doesn't happen unless someone fucks up.

>That doesn't happen unless someone fucks up.
Or the seal breaking in OoT like Ganondorf said would happen.

>>majora's mask sucks cause you do all that work, now you find out it was just a dream!
>>Links awakening was fine, cause you do all that work, only to find out it was a dream!

You learn about halfway in that Koholint doesn't exist. The quest of the game is to wake the Wind Fish, that's what the Nightmares plainly say they are trying to prevent

>Why do that if it doesn't even exist.

Koholint Island didn't exist either. To leave you had to do a bunch of shit, just as in MM, you have to do a bunch of shit to leave Termina. Who cares anyway, just follow whatever canon you feel like because the game series wasn't created with any timeline in mind. Nintendo has an "official timeline" but cmon, we all know the truth here.

Link's Awakening has it established very early on, through Owl, that the island is the Wind Fish' dream. Your journey is to wake the Wind Fish. That's the biggest reason why its not bad in Link's Awakening; its not a twist or a cop-out. Its built, ground up and with an informed player, around its concept of a dream island. Its why Marin wanting to fly away is as a Seagull has the tinge of sadness, and why fighting the Nightmares has a tinge of emotion most Zelda bosses don't have. These are entities that aren't real and want to be real. In Marin's case, she probably doesn't know what she is, but the Nightmares certainly do (as you learn at the Face Shrine), which is why they guard the instruments and fight you.

Also, the title of the game.

What he's getting is that Koholint exists as long as the Windfish is asleep. As in it's legitimately real and not just a regular dream.
Termina was a dream through and through so nothing truly mattered.

>Koholint Island didn't exist either. To leave you had to do a bunch of shit
Yes so you can leave. This is the plot
> just as in MM, you have to do a bunch of shit to leave Termina.
No this is what we are forced to do. Saving Termina isn't required to leave.

Happy Mask Salesman is a dardric price

I must apologize for Skull Kid, he is an idiot. I purposely gave him Majora's Mask, as a joke.

>Taking anything from the Encyclopedia of Fuck Established Lore, This Happened Because I Say So seriously

love Enter the fist

There are none.

oh you mean the encylopedia that is written by fans? nice joke, i'll stick with hyrule historia

>it's ok when ninshitto does it

>written by fans
>another official anniversary book

now you're just arguing gymnastics

-3 to saving throws and will, +2 to reincarnation

>Game about saving a world and generally enriching the lives of the people in it
>None of it is real

I'm fine with Termina being a separate, parallel reality, but if you make it a "not real dream" land that takes away what the game is about.

I see people are saying it's not a big deal because of Link's Awakening. But doesn't the ending just imply that it was only the island that was fake, but all the people on it were actual beings?

>his hatred would be continuously reborn in each cycle
>hyrule historia changed it to Ganon being the reincarnation of demise
>hyrule encyclopedia changed it to OoT Ganondorf reviving through pure hate

> or do they just want to shitpost against Aonuma for some reason?
You're catching on.
Partly, though, it's because people hate being wrong more than anything and will immediately look for someone to blame for their own faults.

>now you're just arguing gymnastics
What? Did you mean semantics?

Anyways to make another point just to get it through your head, just compare the endings. In LA he wakes up, thus achieving his goal. In MM he just rides out on his horse, the same way on how he got in. He never needed to stop the moon.

IT WAS ALL A DREAM

You realise that never changed right?

>written by fans
It's 'official' like Hyrule Historia.

Not him, but

>Link leaves Hyrule in MM to search for Navi
>King of Red Lions says in WW that the Hero of Time left Hyrule on his own personal journey after defeating Ganon, which separated him from the Triforce of Courage, causing it to be scattered again
That's a strong implication from the games themselves that OoT, MM, and WW occur in sequence. The only argument against is "The existence of a timeline connecting all the games is never implied in any of these games, at least not in any way that couldn't also imply a number of other, equally valid explanations. But it's canon because some artbook released a decade after later says so."

This is straight up nonsense that doesn't match any previous narrative.

I think that's implying that the Triforce of courage split because its owner was ripped from time itself and the king didn't understand that. He still has it in the child timeline though and Ganondorf got his before his execution because the gods are funny and probably to keep some form of parity with the other timelines.

I always thought that place was odd

>left Hyrule on his own personal journey after defeating Ganon
Because Zelda sent him back to relive his childhood. The opening itself crumbles your argument.

The moon dissolves though

Man, TP is straight up bullshit then.
There shouldn't even be a Triforce in that timeline.

What, yeah there should be, the triforce isn't just going to disappear because of a little thing like time.

I'm mad.
Mostly because the idea of places not quite being linked the same way across time isn't anything new for Legend of Zelda.

>IT WAS ALL A DREAAAAAMMM

That's nice Nintendo, you already did that plotline for a Zelda game. Find some way to fit Termina in or fuck off. Otherwise Young Link is like Link's Awakening link who just never woke up.

Barely any of the LoZ games are connected. They're just re-using the concept and characters over and over because people love it.

The sad thing is: we'll fall for it. We'll keep buying timeline after timeline no matter how much it gets fucked up.

I expect it to get changed again for the next game.

>I think that's implying that the Triforce of courage split because its owner was ripped from time itself

The exact quote is, "When the Hero of Time was called to embark on another journey and left the land of Hyrule, he was separated from the elements that made him a hero. It is said
that at that time, the Triforce of Courage was split into eight shards and hidden throughout the land." Straight from the horse's mouth, he left on another journey.

>the king didn't understand that.
There's no reason to believe that this is the case.

>Because Zelda sent him back to relive his childhood. The opening itself crumbles your argument.
That's circular reasoning. The only thing the opening says is that the Hero left after defeating Ganon, and he didn't appear to save Hyrule when Ganon returned. We later learn that he was separated from the Triforce, the "elements that made him a hero" when he left on his own journeys. If he wasn't connected to the Triforce, would he still have been able to fight Ganon? Would he have even known Ganon had returned?

The Law of Parsimony exists for a reason. It's perfectly plausible to suggest that Link didn't stop Ganon because he was somewhere else without trying to introduce time paradox bullshit.

...

They're all connected to OoT. OoT is in either the future or the past of every Zelda game.

Kikyu was the cutest.

Yeah, that's just his interpretation of why Link fucking bailed right after he killed Ganon. He's going off of a legend, he wasn't actually there. Link didn't reincarnate to stop Ganon because the heroes spirit was literally taken from that timeline. Zelda fucked up and Hyrule paid the price.

You are fucking dense. The opening proves that WW takes place in the time where OoT Link fought Ganon with the Master Sword. The ending of OoT proves that afterwards Zelda sends him back to a different timeline. How can you not see something this obvious? You don't even need the fucking book to be able to tell that.

>parallel world

This is literally the canon.

Nintendo can suck the fattest horse cock on Earth.

>Nuh uh, you're an idiot

Yeah a parallel world created by Skull Kid.

Not him but you are retarded.

that's literally what you're doing though

Thanks for clarifying

I have provided ample evidence from in-game sources. You have provided nothing.

Right. Him and the mask opened the rift to Termina.

They created Termina, not the link the entire space.

Happy Mask Salesman is shown in the intro of Skyward Sword. He's some super ancient demon.
