What does Sup Forums think about Devil Survivor? SMT thread? Persona is welcome here too

I think its good

Do the other handheld SMT's have the same fire emblem like turn based combat? I've only played ps2 gen SMT sand this is my first handheld one

>Do the other handheld SMT's have the same fire emblem like turn based combat?
Devil Survivor 2 does.

>Persona is welcome here too
Good, our game come in less than 20 days and i'm pretty fucking hyped

Devil Survivor 3 never

It has a slow as fuck start, and having to listen to Yuzu complaining about her sweaty armpits and her bullying of Atsuro for being smarter than her was a drag.

But uncovering the secrets behind the story was a great experience, and fighting to become king of Bel was incredibly hype I only wish the soundtrack was good.

I loved it. The story was the most interesting part, it kind of made me want to hurry up with the gameplay and get back to it.

DeSuOC is my favorite SMT spinoff by far
Naoya > Gin > Atsuro > Amane > Yuzu for endings

Favorite SMT game though I've only played DeSu OC & RB, IV, and Persona I.
>Yuzu complaining about her sweaty armpits
She's a shit but that was kind of hot.
>spoiler
I'll fucking fight you.

>I only wish the soundtrack was good.
That's just not okay user.

It has a few good tracks, the problem is that's all there is, so you get sick of hearing the same music over and over

>playing Nocturne as my first real SMT game after years as a Persona baby
>don't have too much trouble with anything, even memes like Matador
>hit Tower of the Kagutauchi
>get my shit pushed in over and over
Fuuug, I'm up to Baal now but this is rough. Any tips on what to do? I'm planning on grinding a bit (I'm level 65) and hunting down a demon with warcry (I've only been using debilitate) but anything else I should do?

I stopped playing Soul Hackers a while ago and can't bring myself to pick it back up. Please convince me, lads.

Where did you left?

Are the DS versions good enough, or should I just go with the 3DS ports?

It's dancetastic and needs a new game
just demons comparable to/slightly better than whatever mobs are just before a boss are a good scale for comparison's sake

IIRC debilitate > war cry but I haven't touched nocturne in a while
use demons for their usefulness, not their looks. A level 65 nekomata even with decent abilities tacked on will still be utter shit compared to a level 65... uh whatever mobs you're running into for example.
3ds ports are retuned/rebalanced, probably not even worth the bother to run the original DS ones anymore

Just a few steps into the Amami Float. I don't have my shit together so it's kind of hard to risk it.

>Fuuug, I'm up to Baal now but this is rough
I don't remember what Baal does in her battle, but I don't remember having trouble.

>hunting down a demon with warcry
I think Mother Harlot has Warcry, I got her just before the final bit of the dungeon.

>anything else I should do?
Get Yurlungur soon. Even if it you can't get that many useful skills on it, it'll waste a lot of turns when hit with elemental stuff.
Also it looks really neat.

I think you're not far from the ending of the game.

For me the main story ended after Naomi's visual quest and after making Mary smile. But the postgame dungeon is totally worth it.

If you did all the kalpas fuse yourself a black frost

He naturally nulls all ailments with leveling except one which you can fuse onto him

really helps for fighting lucy assuming you actually will fight him which you will if you weren't a faggot

I would totally hate-fuck Yuzu.

But the soundtracks of megaten games are usually top notch, so DeSu's felt super weak in comparison.

It's the final fantasy tactics of the dark souls of Persona

Thanks for the tips
I didn't look up anything about the story or endings so I probably won't get the best one. I don't mind though, I've been enjoying all the story beats as they come and am glad I didn't spoil myself for the sake of the best ending like I accidentally did in P4.

there's no spoilers really, you just have to finish the labyrinth before entering the last dungeon, so if you didn't by now you won't get it

The real fireemblemXsmt

That's Majin Tensei, actually

I'm only 13 hours in so I don't think I'm that close, but I'll keep on trucking. Worst thing that can happen is getting killed a lot and wasting time, which would be wasted even if I didn't play. Thanks.

It was Fire EmblemXSMT before they announced it. It's really good. Best game on the DS by far.

Is that series worth it?

I have no idea. I'd rather point people to DeSu because it's more recent. Although outside of Ronde, the series seems well liked.

I'll check it out and report my findings I guess. I'm always looking for grid-based srpgs, it's my favorite genre

The game is like 20 hours long.

Just try to fuse a good Zoma, and fuse an OP sword.
If you want to disregard demon's personalities you can buy sake to make them change it. And if you played your cards well, you should be swimming in money by that point, so don't shy away from using useful consumables and different kinds of guns and bullets; playing that way makes the Hacker unit fun as fuck to use.

Thanks for the info, just got back to playing it. My Zoma is kind of a mess so I guess I'll pay more attention to it now.

I think it's a really good game. The battle system is really good; there's a considerable number of viable tactics, the varied mission objectives promote different team setups and tactics for each fight, I like how you're able to build your characters and demons, etc. The story is also pretty good, the game does a good job in setting the atmosphere and the various routes are all interesting. I wish the game was more challenging but even as it is it's my favourite SMT game.

Should I finish p3 before playing p5? I'm halfway through (or at least o just hot the dog team member) but things have been busy so i don't think I will finish by the time p5 comes out.

If you actually enjoyed the game, you wouldn't be asking this question.

You have like 24 days.

Chances are, you are gonna feel burned out from the Persona gameplay, even if P5 feels different.

Sorry i guess i should have been clearer. Will I enjoy p5's story less for not having finished p3's? I enjoy playing games as soon as I get them.

You will not understand some little references that's all.
All games are standalone

Does Sup Forums prefer Nocturne to Digital Devil Saga? I just finished DDS and I have to say I like it more than any SMT I have played before.

Almost all the Persona games have self contained stories. The most you would have to understand is Karl Yung's interpretation of personas and shadows, and even then, that aspect tends to take the backseat in favor of SoL anime story-telling.

Cool thanks. Also by all do you mean all persona games or all SMT games

The only good thing about DDS was Based Gale

>Also by all do you mean all persona games or all SMT games
It's both for the most part.

Sup Forums prefers Nocturne.
I prefer Digital Devil Saga.

Now read the Avatar Tuner book and get your mind blown over how cool the setting and characters really are.

I'm loving most of SMT 4 but I seriously think I'm gonna drop it, the map system is so atrocious that it ruins the whole game. Please tell me Apocalypse improves this

DDS2 has the best story in SMT but goddamn I hate the gameplay, learning new skills is such a pain in the ass

I see what you mean. As much as I like DeSu's soundtrack, it's definitely not as great as some of the other MegaTen stuff. What's your opinion on DeSu 2's soundtrack? I thought it was not as good as the first, but I liked the variety of battle themes more.

personally I find the sensation of isolation comforting in a weird way with nocturne fuck isamu though he's a dumb bitch that's never realized how boring something is if you have total control over it with all the cheat codes, most people would want to kill themselves after a while if they actually got shafted into that

Is Atsuro the greatest friend to exist in the SMT franchise?

>actually smart
>a beast gameplay-wise
>will stick with you no matter what you choose (fuck you Toki)

It does have markers up the ass, and always tells you where to go and what to do, if that is what you mean by atrocious.

>he starts trying to rationalize why we're murdering so many people on naoya's 8th day

I think Apocalypse is significantly better than 4 in most regards, but ask other anons. The jury is out on that game.

i'm trying to get into it, but i'm not really a fan of srpgs or trpgs or whatever you want to call them. i enjoyed ufo defense and terror from the deep when they came out, but haven't been able to get into much else since.

>murdering people on the 8th day

Go away, scum.

Oh yeah it tells you where to go. It says "go to x place", only giving the name of the general area I need to be in the entire fuck huge map without giving me any idea of how to get there.

There's nothing wrong with murdering people who attack you first

The situational music is a lot weaker.
Especially the "drama" tracks, which sound like something taken out of a cheap soap opera.

But the battle themes are a hell lot more catchy and exciting.

That's a fair point. Nocturne is one of the most strangely comforting games I've ever played, never experienced anything quite like it. Whenever I boot it up I always stop and listen to the title screen music for a little bit.

I put in at least 100 or more hours into Overclocked. Really fun game.

Naoya did nothing wrong.

I only did it to fill all the characters on the save screen but it was pretty good.
yuzu and midori summoning metatron with the power of friendship to beat you and then whipping all three of them was great

I got stuck at a battle and never completed, great game as expected from Atlus

You're embarrassment will never die.

You can use an actual map of Tokyo. It's the same locations on a real map as it is in the game.

What are your hopes for SMTV (if it actually is SMTV)

Do you think there's gonna be more of a focus on Norse mythology? They did focus on Thor and Odin the most.

>persona
>smt

An actual map won't help when you have to use subways and boats to get anywhere.

The Naoya's Babel fight is probably one of the most idiotic difficulty spikes I've ever encountered in games, but other than that I enjoyed it.
Not sure if I should pick up Record Breaker.

For it to be localized quickly. The wait for IVA made me want to die and Atlus USA constantly dancing around a release date for months didn't make it any better.

RB takes a writing hit but the gameplay is better.

Pick it up.

Miyako is cute.

psst

macca beam

Why are her tittys so heavy? She needs to be milked.

The only smt game I didn't get bored of 10 hours in. Game is fun as fuck. Still gotta play through the 2nd one

Record Breaker is corny cheesy and whatever else but I enjoyed it a lot anyway and got an actual laugh here and there out of it.
bind voice
fundraise

So the new SMT 3DS project is going to be Devil Survivor 3, right?

Was there a way to beat him without Tyrant cheese?

I'm about to start this, should i play on normal or easy? I played through the SMT4 duology and Persona 2, 3, 4 and Q on normal pretty comfily but hear this game is beyond the pale. Is it more grindy or tactical?

what new smt 3ds project?
closest thing I can think of is a *possible* localization announcement for Etrian Odyssey V that may actually not even happen

It's a bit grindy but once you get good demons it becomes pretty easy. Play on normal.

>but hear this game is beyond the pale
elaborate

You must not have played Gin's route then.

If Yasuda ain't working on it I will riot.

>faggot Dormarth steals 100k macca from me in apoc

I'm still pretty upset about it

>jury is out
No, the jury the week Apocalypse was released and the following months said it was a damn good game, though you shouldn't go into it right after playing IV.

It hasn't been until very recently that Sup Forums has been more divided now that we're coming up on P5's release.

It's a very easy game on normal. In fact, the lack of difficulty is the game's biggest flaw. There is absolutely no grinding required.

the babel fight on overclocked is bullshit in general I think
I remember it not being a big deal on the DS version and when I got to it on 3ds I got my ass handed to me more'n I thought I would lol

I made a list of shit I wanted to see in SMTV after I finished IVA, but now I can't seem to find it, but whatever.

I guess I would want:
>Quicker localization.
>Reintroduce defense stats instead of relying just on HP
>bigger dungeons on average
>More boss/enemy reactions to press turn abuse. I think Mitra Buddha is the only enemy that reacts to you hitting a weakness and it's something the series needs more of because standard ol' Press Turn is honestly getting kind of stale at this point.
>less standard chaos/law/neutral heroes
Probably some other stuff I can't think of right now

>standard ol' Press Turn is honestly getting kind of stale at this point.
They tried other systems and none of them have been as good.

You're right desu. It's a great game, hope no one gets memed on and doesn't play it.

>Why are her tits so heavy?
Yasuda.

Not him but I dunno, I like Strange Journey's.

>Persona is welcome here too
Nope, fuck that
Abandon thread

It was only really hard for me on Gin's path because I commited the cardinal sin of making a balanced MC.

I almost gave up until I realized Atsuro could just solo him with Holy Strike.

I figure it would have been impossible on DS since it didn't have Holy Strike and phys being shit in general

>Persona is welcome here too
No its not you fucking FAGGOT.

I want to love Devil Survivor so fucking much because of the characters/plot, but I feel it's such a grind after a certain point. I hear DeSu2 suffers from the exact opposite, which doesn't help at all

Im STILL waiting for the second book :[. Dam Bento books

I was fine with it until Ouroboros where the system pretty much makes it mandatory to only use demons of your alignment to get the damage or she outheals everything.

Devil Survivor 3 when?

Also
Technically speaking these are all MegaTen games, not SMT. Persona, Devil Survivor, Raidou, DDS, etc...are all Megami Ibunroku series, not mainline SMT.
