How the hell has this franchise not been able to produce even one great game?

AVP2 had a great story, and top-tier voice acting. I loved how each chapter's text in the mission objective screen was written as a post-incident report. That, and each mission began with a timestamp based on when it occurred relative to "The Incident" triggered at the start of the Alien campaign. Pretty awesome playing as the alien to see the timestamp go from "Incident: -1 days" in the first mission to "Incident: start" at the beginning of the second mission.

Plus, the optional codex crap scattered around that's so common these days was actually interesting to read.

Stuff like that was great. Also the journal entries of the Predator campaign villain. Also that one report in the Marine level where you fought the Predator that basically theorized that there was a third player besides aliens and humans on the planet - which of course is the case, but the writer wouldn't know that for sure.

For a game that was just about running around and shooting/eating bad guys, AvP2's writing was really solid.

Shane Black is pure kino.

The text in the next Alien chapter does that. The "someone" being referred to is the Predator you fight as the Alien at the end of that mission. He whips out the suicide bomb after you beat him, causing the explosion referred to in the text, blowing a massive hole in the floor for you to escape through.

I'm a bit surprised more games don't use this kind of thing. Not only is it actually interesting to read about the aftermath of your exploits, it's like an after-action report that also give hints as to what the player should be watching out for during the mission.

The problem is that it's a kid in a film about a monster that follows a code of honor when it hunts, which we can reasonably assume precludes the killing of children.

The kid isn't going to get killed and have his spine ripped out as a trophy, therefore it undermines any tense situations that might arise when he is in "danger".

So why was Dr. Eisenberg an android? Was he an android back when he was rescued in the flashback to the older facility? What did he mean when he said "I didn't have a choice"? What did he do to the others who didn't survive?

I was able to piece together every part of the story except what Eisenberg did during the first crisis on the planet, and why he's now a robot when he was explicitly stated and shown to be human before

Can't recall if he had completely lost his mind after the cannibal thing shown at the start, or if he was badly injured. Either way, the scattered codex stuff implies that his father somehow "ported" his consciousness into an android. Whether or not that's the same Dr. Eisenberg afterwards is contentious, as another scientist who knew him before the cannibalism incident describes him as having a completely different personality.

I liked the alien campaign of avp2 but the predator and marine ones weren't very fun. They start out spoopy but soon you're just running through corridors pressing m1 when your autoaim targets another of the 5 billion dumb drones that just path directly to you.

The alien gameplay though has some of the best stealth mechanics of all time.

it was cool how the alien and marine storylines complimented each other. you had to play both of them to get the whole picture and piece together the game's story. the predator campaign seemed almost totally disconnected from the other two, though

Not completely disconnected. He gets one scene that involves all three campaigns coming together. After he's captured and in the holding cell, the player Alien shows up in the observation room, killing the observing scientists. Afterwards, the player Marine shows up and raises his holding cell in order to get through the maintenance shafts beneath it. The player Predator sees both these things happening before his mission starts.

It made a massive mistake by making the main campaign the longest, but overall it was a solid game.

Even though the Alien can't access the computers and notepads like the other two can, I agree that its campaign is the best.

The start of this mission was pretty fantastic. Eisenberg starts freaking out over the "Xenomorph contaminant" in the same pod he's in, barricades every entry to the room and curls up in the corner, and has flashbacks to his cannibalism incident. Rykov shows up, stands over him and calls him a coward.

Then, at the start of that Alien mission, you rip apart the security and other personnel just outside his office and run in through the door.

He's not there of course, having just left, but goddamn that was awesome. Justifies him for being extremely paranoid and terrified about that alien.

I personally want a good AVP movie, one that isn't set in the 2000s with an extreme emphasis on violence and/or with a shoehorned plot.
As bad as AVP 2010 was, I was more satisfied with that than either movie.

it had so many great game modes like evac for example.
not to mention the metric shitzillion of maps and mods that exist.

You are part of marine group and Alien is hard as hell to kill and Predator is just impossible to kill. You can shoot but what good can it make?

If you are Alien it's fun, but marines can kill you and Predator fights are very hard.

As an Predator you should be Predator. Humans are somewhat easy to kill. But then you have Alien. Not so easy.

AvP2 was great.

Best part was how the other characters were responsible for your advancement in the game. The Marine turned of the power to let the Alien in, while the Alien killed the people which let the Marine free the Predator. I fucking wish they did more shit like this in games.

Why does Alien seem to get more chances at games than Predator?

Predator has had literally ONE game in the last decade and a half, Alien has Infestation, Colonial Marines and Isolation all within the last 6 years. Even though there's an 11 year gap between Infestation and the game before it, that's still shorter than between now and the release of Predator: Concrete Jungle.

I have the PS3 version. Got more than halfway through the Predator campaign and it started crashing every time I tried to make it through the area after you get that throwing star type weapon.

I haven't played it since. I'm pretty pissed about it.

Alien resurrection on ps1 was fantastic, and one of the first console shooters to use the analog sticks to look and move.

AvP2 was pretty fucking awesome for the time it came out. Both single player and campaign were fun to play. 2010 AvP could have been decent if they just followed the formula of the old games.
