BK is even more open than SM64 though. The latter kicks you out of the world once you get a star and you can't freely get any of them in one run. With the sole exception of getting the running shoes for Boggy's race in Freezeezy Peak you can 100% any level in BK in any order you desire without leaving the moment you step into it.

But I like both 64 and Galaxy, didn't care much for Sunshine and 3D World, like both OoT and BotW, liked Generations more than Adventure, never gave a fuck about MGS, GTA, MMOs, CoD and ASSFAGGOTS.

Mario 64 does this to encourage you to go try other levels instead of marathoning a level until it's beaten. Putting you back in the castle after getting a power star increases the significance of each one, and gives the game a chance to remind you of new doors you can open in the castle. Too bad BK's hubworld is hot dog turds and not fun to navigate at all, even while plagiarizing mario 64 (the greatest video game ever made)
