3DS is the greatest portable gaming system ever made. On top of that it has an exclusive library that is completely unrivaled. Why don't you own one yet?

I do, its fucking great.
God I hope they don't get rid of the 3D on whatever portable console they do next. It's just an amazing addition
Because I only want to pirate on it, and I have no idea if the new 2ds models that are in stock on the website I'm looking at have a hackable firmware or not, or if they require another purchase (eg a game) to utilise said hack.
Because the library is garbage in my opinion.
Same. Keep the 3D, upgrade the screen, make the body a little more sturdy (the hinge particularly), keep or improve the xl battery life and take my money
The things library is great, but calling it the greatest portable feels like you're just ignoring all the awful issues the hardware has.
And yeah okay, they might not matter to you, but when the entire system has a certain amount of power reserved for a feature that isn't even in all versions of the console, you have to be able to understand how people can have an issue with the hardware. Additionally, nothing about its hardware is particularly positive.
I've had one for years and enjoyed it, tons of games for the thing. But fuck the system itself.
>too dumb to look up what firmware is hackable
The DS library literally quadruples the 3DS's in comparison. I've looked at the 3DS eShop for hours and couldn't find anything worth shit.
This thread is stupid op. Everyone knows all of this and we all own a 3ds
>You can tell what firmware is pre installed on a device without ordering and opening it
Literal autism
But I do!
And you also forgot to mention that all the games on it are completely free.
There are lists online made by people who bought different versions and checked which firmware they came with just so you wouldn't have to, you know.
>awful issues
Such as? I've had zero issues with the hardware of the new 3DS XL at all.
You wouldn't be saying that if you had looked up which firmware is hackable.
Only for burger purchased ones
Well, if you're too lazy to even look up that stuff, I can't force you. Keep waiting for a miracle, I guess.
>love my 3dsxl
>play it daily because I only have time for pc and console at weekend
>not sure if at this time upgrading to n3ds is worth it or not
>not interested in zelda
So, are we getting 3ds2 or are we stuck with switch?
It's completely impossible to tell at this point. 3DS system and game sales are still high this late into its life, but Nintendo consolidated its mobile and console teams into one before the switch release. No one knows.
The 3DS library was shit from a Nintendo perspective.
>worst Paper Mario
>worst 3D Mario
>worst 2D Mario
>worst Mario Kart since Super Circuit
>worst Luigi's Mansion
>worst Yoshi game
>worst Fire Emblem
>worst Pokemon games
>worst Metroid
The only thing it got right was Zelda (at least with ALBW and some good ports of the N64 games, Triforce Heroes was shit) and Kid Icarus (although that's because it was a completely different game that was barely like its predecessors anyway).
I literally just described a major problem. The already weak system (it was the weakest hardware used for gaming during its entire life, including phones) is limited in most of its games because of 3D support, which matters so little to the games themselves across the board that there's literally a version of the system without 3D support.
I'm not talking about issues with individual units or anything like that. I haven't had hardware issues with my 3DS either. I'm talking about how dumb the design decisions behind the system are. There isn't anything about the systems hardware that I'd describe as particularly good - the battery is awful, the screens are cheap and low DPI, etc.
It was a huge letdown compared to the DS desu.
1-2 flagship games per year, no exclusive indies, no Metroidvania style games, weak Ace Attorney games, weak Zelda games, no Advance Wars but 3 mediocre Fire Emblem games because we want the fujo audience.
Also the battery life sucks and the ergonomics are poor.
Life is too short for handheld games.
I can get 7 hours of battery life with wifi off. Sorry but that doesn't "suck"
>Life is too short for games.
Fixed that for you.
>beat DQ VIII yesterday
Time to put the good old girl into storage along with the Wii U. Literally nothing else to play.
>Life is too short.
Actually PSP is the greatest.
>Tons of 3rd party support and even Sony supported it
3ds is okay only because Nintendo gave up on the Wii U and put everything into the 3ds.
3rd party support for it is pretty bad desu. Its got like monster hunter and thats pretty much it.
...
At the earliest we will see it on the west next year.
They said they're planning on making a successor, ie not using the Switch as the main handheld going forward like most people worried
I unironically think a hacked n3ds is one of the best handhelds
Is this shit legit or just a meme?
They said that the DS wasn't going to replace the GBA and look how that turned out. If the Switch is successful enough then they'll probably just release a cheaper, stripped-down version of the Switch rather than a separate 3DS successor.
>greatest portable gaming system ever made
That would be the GPD Win.
DS has a far better library, but the 3DS has great games that the DS hasn't. For example, Animal Crossing 3DS is the best game that series has ever produce
while i enjoyed the 3d, i think it would be best if it was removed
it's the entire reason it's so underpowered and the resolution is tiny
I just don't want to pay for useless function which is 3D, the fact that it will always be turned off is even worse.
The version without 3D, looks like shit and it is not foldable.
3D land was perfectly fine. It was a fun platformer, despite being easy to 100%. (I did this twice.)
I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Sure it would have been cool to have something with more of a story and real bosses ala Mario Galaxy or 3D World.
New Super mario bros 2 is as above.
Mario Kart 7 had no problems at all and set a lot of ground work out for 8.
Yes, a handheld sequel to Luigi's mansion was a bit gimped. Set levels instead of a single place to explorer and it being full of generic ghosts with only like 3/4 unique ghosts was a shame. Still a fun game though. Multiplayer was kind of fun for a bit.
New Island was a fine experience too. A bit easy and short compared to other.
But fuck we got a full port of Wooly World at the end. Fucking amazing.
Yes Federation Force was a shitshow and I didn't even buy it after it failed to appeal to me as someone who really liked the Prime games. I would have killed for Prime Hunters 2 with full multiplayer.
I got one and had to use epoxy resin putty to fill the bottom in, because the grips end abruptly at sharp angles.
Nintendo has never failed in the handheld department in my opinion. There's always a big list of exclusives to play. That, along with easily being able to mod a DS or 3DS and it's an easy buy. I haven't modded my 3DS yet admittedly because there's just too much other shit to play and I'm more occupied with that right now, but eventually I'll get around to it. When I modded my DS though I had a fucking blast. Badass portable emulator that I can play all the classics on, as well as any DS game I want for free. Hell, even all the shovelware garbage and terribly rated games were fun to play when you just pirate everything. I loaded up my SD card with hundreds of DS titles and went to town, playing shit I would haven ever played otherwise. Even if I spent a max of 15 minutes on some shitty game it was still hilariously entertaining.
I will always buy Nintendo handhelds because of this.
>exclusive library that is unrivaled
I've played the flagship Nintendo franchises since the NES days and I'm not into over the top weeb shit.
What does the 3DS have to offer me?
How about the actual ergonomics? Does it actually helping? And how about the weight?
Somewhat unrelated
What's the best DS flash cartridge
And where can I get one?
Best use of the 3D Gimmick?
I say Dungeon and Lolis/Etrian Odyssey.
I mean first person Dungeon Crawler.
That's the whole joke. The OP is bait.
i fucked up and upgraded to 11.3.0-36E so i don't think i can hack my 2ds anymore
i'd like to know too senpai
3DS is a genuine shit follow up from the DS, arguably GBA which was basically SNES port machine.
I do.
Though I haven't used it for a year or so, playing on my Vita and now my Switch.
Still, 3DS was great, it has great library on it's own and the fact that it also can play DS library only makes it better.
No, but you can tell if the 3DS is hackable or not without ordering and opening it.
>hint: all of the firmwares except 11.3 are hackable, and I'm pretty sure no 11.3 devices are in stores yet
Yeah makes it more comfy definitely.
100% recommend for playing Smash Bros on this thing.
>exclusives that aren't weeb or Mario , Zelda, donkey Kong, etc
... I've got nothing.
en.wikipedia.org
Literally 75% of these are worth playing
I bought a New3DS from a Big W in Brisbane. It was an original run, 9.0.0. Must have been in there for years hahaha.
The 3D effect on Ocarina of Time is gorgeous, it's like looking into a little diorama
It is, so if you're going to take the time out of your life to play a game, why would you play one on a handheld? Why?
>#1
Ace Combat. I'm willing to give it a shot despite the PC games + joystick feels.
>#2
Age12: is this like Brain age shit?
>click
Age 12 (12歳。 12-Sai.?) is a Japanese slice of life romance shōjo
>age 12
>romance
>age fucking 12
Yeah, naw I'm good.
I don't like animal crossing / pokemon
Because the whole point of a handheld is to be portable. You can play on the go and in different places. Why would you plant yourself in front of a television or computer for many hours in a row, confining yourself to the same tiny spot on the earth over and over.
I love the 3DS and hate pokemon, there are hundreds of other things to play.
>no advanced wars
>no battle network
>no phantasy star
>no custom robo sequel
>no crystal chronicles
>no golden sun
I'm still waiting to upgrade from my DSI. I don't feel like I've missed much.
Because the only Nintendo IP I have any interest in is Animal Crossing and I'm not about to buy a handheld just to play one game.
The 3DS is an excellent machine, once hacked it can emulate pretty much every Nintendo console natively through the use of Virtual Console Injections. Hacking is so fucking easy that you're an idiot if you haven't done it yet.
